  1. Yea that sounds like it could be DH. You could see a derm when the rash is active and ask them to speciafically look for DH. They would biopsy an area beside a lesion not the lesion itself to find the antibodies.
  2. And it's soy free, but boy is that expensive! Well worth trying though if it is in the budget.
  3. I used to get Giovanni in the Natural Food section of Wegmans or at my local Health food store. I stopped coloring my hair for a long time but after I hadn't had a DH outbreak (which in me causes blisters on my scalp and elsewhere) but I found this stuff called Herbatint at the health food store. It worked pretty well for me and I liked that you can...
  4. If you are having symptoms then you could go to a GI and ask for a biopsy, but those have false neatives also. You also could go with Enterolab, they do stool testing for antibodies but do not technically diagnose celiac. Or you could go gluten free with your DD and let your body give you the answer. Sometimes that is the best and most conclusive way for...
  5. I am so jealous of all you Giovanni users! I loved their shampoos and conditioners especially the Smooth as Silk conditioner. Unfortunately my soy allergy forced me to stop using them. I have been using the Shikai line the last couple weeks and it is a good one also. I tried the California Baby but the conditioner seemed 'heavy' to me and not worth...
  6. I hope they are able to figure out what is going on soon. You could try some cream of buckwheat. That is very easy to digest and has a bit of protein also. If you have some on hand maybe make it the way the say for a baby and just do a spoonful at a time and see how it goes. The fact you can't eat or even drink concerns me. Does the doctor know you...
  7. It is likely your liver enzymes returned to normal because you were on the diet. It is not uncommon for us to have elevated levels when we are first diagnosed. False negatives in both blood and biopsy are common. The NIH estimates about 20%, since you had positive blood work that would indicate that you need the diet, IMHO. It can take a while to heal...
  8. I would give those mixes and flours to a freind or relative that can use them. If you tolerate eggs, rice milk (don't get Rice Dream), maple syrup keep them in your diet. There are gluten free waffles ready made that you can buy and you can find mixes for virtually anything that has gluten in it in gluten free form. Betty Crocker has gluten free cake...
  9. You have a good hubby there. You need to just as strict as someone formally diagnosed with celiac. Negative blood tests are not uncommon amongst us. My negative blood work delayed my diagnosis by years, many painfull ones. I was positively diagnosed celiac by my bodies response to the diet and the extreme reaction I had when I was ordered to do a challenge...
  10. Welcome, I think your plan to make your house gluten free is a good one. I am glad they were finally able to diagnose you. The best way to start is with whole unprocessed foods. There are many good gluten free products out there so if your craving anything don't hesitate to ask if there is a replacement or recipe that will be safe. Read as much as you...
  11. Welcome to the board. I know it will be hard to wait to get the biopsy but you do have to stay on the nasty stuff until that is done. You can make the day before the biopsy your last 'glutened' day. Do start the diet as soon as the biopsy is done, you don't have to wait for the results. Chances are you will be feeling much better by the time you go for...
  12. Hi Dani, Welcome to the board and thank you for the very upbeat post. I just wanted to ask if they have tested you for celiac. EE is not a rare occurance here on the board. It is sometimes found in folks with celiac. They have tested fully tested you for celiac right? Including a trial of the gluten-free diet at some point.
  13. I am glad at least the metalic taste is gone. Things of course are different for different folks but that metallic taste for me means I have gotten some barley. Could some possibly have snuck in under the 'natural flavors' in something?
  14. Welcome to the board. Hopefully you will have a great deal of relief from the diet. I was very surprised when my arthritis went into remission within 6 months of starting. I hope the same happens for you.
  15. It's nice to hear things are going well. It sounds like he has had quite a bit of improvement already and you are all coping well. I hope it continues for you.
  16. I am sorry, I have DH also and it is always so depressing to try and use something, like it and then suffer a breakout. You mention straightening your hair, have you seen the rotating hair styling tool with a brush? I have seen infomercials about it and recently ordered one from QVC called The Instyler that is supposed to do a nice job of polishing,...
  17. I think that plan is a good one. If you keep that up more than a day or so do add in perhaps some chicken that has been broiled plain as you do need some protein. After your tummy calms down a bit then add stuff back in one item at a time for 4 or 5 days to see if you will tolerate. The first thing I would add back after the chicken would be a well cooked...
  18. Try to stick with whole unprocessed foods as much as you can. That said there are egg replacers that you can use to make things like cupcakes etc. Ener-g makes the one I use. Other than that reading labels is going to be the best way to go in general. There are good companies that won't hide gluten, like Kraft and Unilever products. If you don't see...
  19. I don't have much to add except hang in there. It does take a while to heal and it is soooo overwhelming at first. Some of us will go through a bit of a withdrawl also and that can make us depressed and irritable but it will pass. I know you have said you really love cheese, what you could do is go with a hard cheese like cheddar for a bit but avoid...
  20. To get the DNA tests from Enterolab just put their name in a search engine to find them and then follow the instructitions they give you. They will send you a kit for stool sample collection and a swab to rub on the inside of you cheek for the gene tests. Even if you were a firmly biopsy diagnosed celiac I would still encourage you to think long and hard...
  21. I hope you are not planning on being tested for celiac. If you were the time to do it was six months ago. Celiac testing will be useless for you now without a lengthy gluten challenge. Chances are you did the right thing if you are feeling better.
  22. I used the Chocolate all the time for a long time. I never had an issue with it. Before I was diagnosed I used to mix it in with my coffee in the morning as it was the only thing I could have for breakfast that wouldn't make me sick.
  23. An allergist should be able to tell you whether you have a true allergy to wheat. I am assuming you were diagnosed with celiac. The sudden additon of more fiber in our diets, like when you added in the brown rice can cause us to develop more gas until our body adjusts to the added fiber. Increasing it slowly can help. I am glad you were able to figure...
  24. Did they put you on any meds after the endo? If they did were those meds double checked to make sure they were gluten free? I had a severe reaction to a med after one endo I had which basically kept me from digesting anything to the extent that I needed pancreatic enzymes for a month or so to heal and be able to digest any food. The reaction also seemed...
  25. You can't rely on gene testing for diagnosis. IMHO. If you ask for a copy of the tests and post them there are a couple folks with a great deal of knowledge that may be helpful with them. How are you doing on the diet? Have you noticed any improvement? You said you thought you might have healed so you tried the pizza rolls. I take that to mean you...
