  1. It does sound like you are reacting. The GI stuff may take a day or so to appear but I wouldn't be surprised if you are a bit more emotional today, I say that because my brain fog is usually accompanied by depression and irritability. No for sure that you would have the same effect. I do that transposing thing to and I find that one hand works faster on...
  2. I agree. Sounds like you work for a good doctor. Testing does catch a large percentage of us but there are still some that slip through the cracks. Because my blood tests were always a false negative my doctors went off just that and never mentioned even what they were testing for so I could have a chance to try the diet. So many doctors rely on negative...
  3. Great article thanks for the link.
  4. I used to buy it at the health food store but my Mom made it herself my heating butter until the solids went to the bottom of the pan and then she would use the clear part that sits on top. Watch it carefully as you don't want it to brown. Unfortunately I haven't found a mayo that fits what we need. I do sometimes use Hellmans Canola Mayo but that does...
  5. What do you mean by 'broken out'? Are you talking about a rash outside the mouth or are you talking about blisters inside? If you are talking about blisters inside your mouth do call the doctor that diagnosed you with candida and tell them about it. That does not sound like a 'normal' reaction to probiotics to me. If you should start to feel your throat...
  6. Unfortunately you can not go off of gene markers. I am very thankful that my genes were tested 5 years AFTER I was diagnosed. Otherwise I most likely would not be here to write this to you. I would have instead been diagnosed with RA and in a wheelchair still unable to use my hands and loaded up on meds or in a coffin. Some doctors in the US only look...
  7. When celiac attacks the brain it can do a number of things. Gluten ataxia is one, that is a feeling of being off balance. For me that means I feel like I am falling to the right even if I am not. It also interferes with nerve conduction, I lost reflexes in my legs when I was still a child but 2 years after going gluten free I now have reflexes again in...
  8. If your going to get another endo don't go gluten free yet. If not go ahead and give the diet a good shot. The veggies and meats may not be the issue even if it seems they are. Gluten reactions are often delayed. The gluten reaction to the toast and cereal you had for breakfast may not be noticed until as much as three days after you eat it.
  9. My soy intolerance is the most annoying for me, even more so than the celiac as so much gluten free food has soy. My soy symptoms do differ from gluten. Both cause GI issues but soy gives me severe constipation with gluten I get very painful diarhea instead. Soy also cause more bone pain. I dont' get the neuro symptoms from soy that I get from gluten...
  10. Duodentitis can be related to celiac. With the increase intraepithelial lymphocytes and the statement 'no significant atrophy' which to me means that some atrophy was found but your villi are not totally destroyed all point IMHO to celiac. I would try the diet when all your testing for celiac is done.
  11. I guess this is one time I should be glad that I am one of those low income groups. I have to talk to my tax person this year and see if I have to have every single reciept or whether I can average by my usual monthly gluten free items. Unfortunately I didn't save all my reciepts this year. I will next year though.
  12. I am so glad you got some answers and can now start the healing. There really is a lot you can still eat even though it doesn't seem that way right now. You can get an egg replacer to use in baking, I use Ener-g brand. It works fine in cakes and that sort of thing. My favorite snack food is Wylde pretzels. Most gluten free pretzels have soy which I also...
  13. Welcome to the board. You do sound like you could be one of us. Do be aware that the blood tests can show a false negative. After you have done all the testing that you choose to do for celiac give the diet a good strict try for a couple of months. Ask any questions you need to and I hope you get some answers soon and are feeling better.
  14. Thank you so much for your service first and foremost. I would talk to your command. I don't think the doctor you saw realized what you were talking about. Many doctors are celiac ignorant and not all listen to everything we actually say. There is no way they can feed you and keep you healthy on the front. Period. I would hate to see you give up your...
  15. You may also want to check out this link to an article here that Scott posted for us last year. "Tips for a Gluten-Free Thanksgiving and Safe Holiday Season" https://www.celiac.com/articles/21672/1/Tip...ason/Page1.html
  16. If you are mostly gluten free the blood testing is worthless. If you feel you need a diagnosis you need to go back to a full gluten diet for about 3 months and then retest. Or you could eliminate it completely and then challenge it by eating something like cream of wheat 3 times a day for a week. If your body reacts to that challenge (gluten) it is telling...
  17. I wish I had a good doctor who knows something ataxia, or even celiac for that matter. My ataxia has gotten much, much better since I went gluten free but it was not a quick process. I had the most remarkable amount of healing in the first six months but continued to improve over the next couple of years. By the end of two years I had regained weak reflexes...
  18. I usually buy an organic one that has no broth added. One thing you might want to do is write down the names of a few turkeys that are available at your local grocers along with a phone number or look them up on the web. Then call or email and ask the companies. Many will be safe but it is wise to check as not all are.
  19. I don't know anything about HSAs but I do know that if you itemize and your health bills are over a certain amount that you can use that as a tax deduction on your federal return. It isn't a refund of the taxes paid but a deduction of the difference between gluten free and regular foods. You tax professional can explain it a bit better when tax time comes...
  20. With the blunting and inflammation found in the endo I would do a trial of the diet.
  21. I would start keeping a food and symptom diary. Gluten can be sneaky and the symptoms can sometimes be delayed. A diary will help you pinpoint what is getting you a bit easier. It is hard at first and we do have some ups and downs but hang in there and eat as much whole unprocessed foods as you can. I hope you feel better soon.
  22. I hope your feeling better by now. For me it can take up to 3 weeks for the ataxia to go away after I am glutened. Make sure you double check and make sure that the antibiotics are for sure gluten-free and I hope the illness your taking them for resolves quickly.
  23. You have the two recognized celiac genes. Although your blood tests were negative they could be a false negative, up to 20% of us will have negative blood tests. If you are planning on having a endo and biopsy stay on gluten. If your not then do give the diet a good try and see if it helps your issues.
  24. Yes they can. Mine were bad and both internal and external. People can get them at any age, mine were first found when I was just a child. Although I was of course an undiagnosed symptomatic celiac at the time. My prediagnosis colonoscopy found many and also severe diverticulosis throughout my entire large intestine, diverticulosis is usually only on the...
  25. Tarnelberry put it very well. I would urge you to see if you can get some counseling together and also perhaps a bit of counseling by yourself. So many times our families see the great response we have from the diet and think that everything is now going to go back to the 'normal' that they want. It sounds like your husband has gotten used to you being...
