  1. Welcome to the board and the gluten free lifestyle. With those results chances that you are not celiac are slim. IMHO. Your doctor may want you to have an endoscopy and if so don't go gluten free until after that test is done. With results that high your doctor may not feel the need for an endo, some do some don't. Usually celiac has a trigger. That...
  2. I find this interesting "Coincidentally, when going on LDN therapy one of the things they recommend is a gluten-free, casein-free diet. This drug, supposedly, has a demonstrable efficacy, with several doctors noticing very real improvements in several of their autoimmune crippled patients." For me it kind of invalidates the therapy research if both are...
  3. Hi and welcome to the board. It certainly could be CC depending on what he typically eats. If he eats out a lot that may be an issue. Does he go out with freinds for drinks? He needs to be careful with mixers and some of us have issues with distilled gluten grains also. Some of us also have other intolerances that come to the forefront once gluten is avoided...
  4. I have used this one also with good results. I have also used a NOW product that is just coconut oil and shea butter and that worked well also.
  5. I would take the Watson brand. The filler, or starch, is what you are concerned with and in this case the company uses corn starch. Your pharmacist should be checking these items. They would be able to get the info and if they refuse to check switch pharmacies. The pharmacist can also contact the doctor and reccommend a safe substitute if the prescribed...
  6. If you were gluten-free long enough to have some healing you need to go back on gluten for about 3 months for the tests to have any chance of accuracy. That said some of us even on a full gluten diet will show negative in blood and biopsy. How do you feel on the diet and how long and strict have you been with it? As to the hair loss first thing to check...
  7. It means you should try the diet after all testing is finished. If she is having a biopsy wait until the day that is done and start the diet the minute the test is completed. You don't need to wait on the results and may have your answer by her response to the diet before you even go to the return visit to get them.
  8. It is hard to do this diet when we have lives that are busy and leave little time for cooking. A couple quick ideas to perhaps help a bit on those nights. Dinty Moore Beef Stew. This is gluten free and while it is heating I add a green veggie to it like green beans or peas to make it a complete meal. I do pizza a couple times a week, it is quick to...
  9. That really is not uncommon. If your feeling better and symptoms have resolved then it is up to you whether you want another scope. It is your choice whether to have one done or not. Also be aware that there can be false negatives with biopsy so as soon as the biopsy is done start the diet. Your body may give you the answer before the biopsy results come...
  10. The kraft cheese should be okay and so should the Salad Dressing. Kraft will not hide gluten ingredients. When in doubt though call the company, sometimes they will offer you coupons when you call. As far as the bread issue goes my personal favorite is Kinnickinnick brand. I like the Italian and I also like their pizza shells and waffles. Gluten Free...
  11. Your best bet is going to be to call the companies directly. Generics can change binders whenever they want so those need to be checked at each refill. You should be able to get a contact number from the printout they give you with the med or by doing a search for that company online.
  12. We also have to keep in mind that the gluten free label doesn't mean that there is no gluten at all even if they do test. Most companies go by 20ppm or less if they do test. Some of us will react even to that small amount. Rice Dream is an example of an item that says gluten free but still has small amounts of barley that don't legally need to be disclosed...
  13. First of all I find this statement by your doctor ridiculous "many people feel better off gluten", sure they do....if their body has an issue with gluten. In addition if you have been gluten-free for long enough to see improvement a one week challenge is going to do nothing. It should be at least 3 months. The DNA test will be a waste of money if your...
  14. If you have been gluten free for less than a year Enterolab may still be able to find antibodies. They also do gene testing. I think you are a wise Mom not to make you little one do a gluten challenge if he is thriving and was ill before the diet.
  15. I think you already have your answer. The suggestion to challenge with the barley and rye was a good one. Get the crackers and have them 3 times a day for a week. If you haven't seen symptoms go ahead and keep them in. Then add barley to a soup that you make that you have eaten with no problems or in another form and do the same thing. If you are feeling...
  16. Different companies have different policies as far as labeling goes. Some companies will tell you if gluten containing items are made in the same plant, you usually read that on a label as "manufactured in the same plant as wheat, soy" or you will see "May contain traces of wheat, soy etc". This form of labeling is not required. If one of the major allergens...
  17. Me too. I know green tea has a good dose of theanine, (I think I spelled that right). I had the same effect when I took a theanine supplement. It is supposed to be good for stress and anxiety and I thought I'd give it a try. I wonder if some people just can't handle the theanine?
  18. I am glad to see that you are taking B12, hopefully the sublingual form, and biotin. You may want to consider adding a B vitamin stress formula. You may be deficient in more of the B's than the two you are taking. Also if you haven't removed gluten, including in the form of vitamin E, from your shampoos and conditioners you should also give that a shot...
  19. For me the gluten challenge was not only worthless it make me to sick to even get to the endoscopy. You brother sounds loving and conerned but if you point out the impovement in your health and promise him that if you do continue to have symptoms after a while on the diet you will rule out other things that might set his mind at ease. If he is doubting...
  20. If you have a Wegmans near you give them a call at 1-800-WEGMANS. They will tell you whether their store brand is safe they are really good at giving answers about that as they are really celiac savvy. Sometimes it may take a return call but they will get back to you if they don't have the answer on hand.
  21. I have also been glutened by cheetos but not every time. I think it is a CC issue with those so I consider any Lay's products to be like playing roulettee. The most surprising glutening I had to date was with a juice product that turned out to have barley in the 'natural flavors'. I started checking anything with those words after that. There are some...
  22. Just like you. Usually my scalp will itch, although only in the back for some reason. Even a small amount of gluten or for me soy also, will cause this. I also have to be very careful what shampoos etc I use on my hair. It has taken me a long time to find a safe shampoo but I now use Shikai, which seems to work well with no itchyness or hair loss. Something...
  23. Yes there are folks that have negative results. There have been a few that have posted on the board especially after testing whole familys. Most folks that have the testing done have symptoms that are celiac symptoms, most folks don't get the test done if they are symptom free. So the number of positives ourweigh the number of negatives. Celiac is rampant...
  24. It may be a newer product that hasn't been added to the list yet. If you have doubts you can call the company and ask. It should be safe as Kraft does not hide gluten ingredients but if you call they may send you some coupons. Hellmans Mayo, even the Canola oil one, are gluten free and they say it on the back.
  25. I would contact the company. The only thing that looks questionable is the 'flavors'.
