ARCHIVED I Just Ordered The Enterolab Test For My Son...
ravenwoodglass replied to brigala's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
If you are a diagnosed celiac it is likely, IMHO his symptoms are being caused by that also. Good for him for recognizing it and being willing to give the diet another stricter try. Enterolab can test up to a year after we stop eating gluten so if you are going that route rather than the GI route go ahead and let him stop. If you want him to get the blood... -
ARCHIVED Endoscopy Tomorrow
ravenwoodglass replied to pewpewlasers's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
The procedure will be easy. Try not to stress too much about it. If you are having symptoms that are different from your celiac symptoms I do wonder why he would want to make you do a challenge. Have you already ruled out other intolerances? Soy, dairy etc? If you haven't I would drop those and see if anything changes before I did a challenge. If you... -

It sounds like you have a good plan. One thing you do need to know is that most soy sauces are NOT gluten free. There are gluten free soy sauces available though, San-J makes Tamari which is a gluten free soy sauce. You may also want to try some of the premade gluten-free breads or mixes. Gluten Free Pantry makes a great french bread mix that us wonderful... -

The issue with the turkey sliced at the deli is not so much the food handlers as the cutter itself. Even if it is wiped down between orders there is residue from whatever was cut before it. I used to work in a deli and one of my jobs was cleaning the slicer at the end of the day. To say it was gross when the guards came off and those areas were exposed... -
ARCHIVED Understanding Test Results
ravenwoodglass replied to talula2's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
If you are gluten free already your test results will be a false negative. You need to be on a full gluten diet for either the endo or blood work to have any chance of coming up positive. To be diagnosed at this point you need a 6 week to 3 month gluten challenge. IMHO if the diet is working and you feel great you should think long and hard before doing... -
ARCHIVED With Muscle Comes Gut, Apparently
ravenwoodglass replied to CGally81's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
The items I bolded may be causing issues, one by one, Milk you may not be lactose intolerant but casien intolerant that would cause bloating Yogurt, not all are gluten free Yoplait yogurts are but if you are using a different brand do call and make sure. Also if you are casien intolerant these would be a no-no Try deleting all dairy products for a while... -
Hair Loss Post Gluten Free?
ravenwoodglass replied to Crayons574's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
Yes, you will find many of us have all those issues and more. If you want to be medically diagnosed please don't stop eating gluten yet as you must be eating it to be tested. If you are happy with simply feeling better then go ahead and stay on the diet. Not everyone needs a doctor confirmed diagnosis but if you feel you do keep on the gluten and call... -
ARCHIVED Active Greens Food Bars Safe?
ravenwoodglass replied to jasonD2's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I would make sure I was feeling well for at least two weeks before I ate any of those bars, well if I would even think of eating them anyway. I do know that I have reacted badly to wheat grass juice that was technically gluten free and there are others on the board who have reacted also. You may want to do a board search or post a question about whether... -
ARCHIVED The Fda
ravenwoodglass replied to mushroom's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Something that would help a great deal is if we report every time we are adversely affected by gluten in a script or OTC drug. Below is a link to the website to do so. Most of us don't report the reactions we get and if we report the reaction to our doctors since the reaction is to a binder and not the drug these reactions slip through the cracks. We need... -
ARCHIVED Active Greens Food Bars Safe?
ravenwoodglass replied to jasonD2's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
If they are the same ones I looked at they would not be safe IMHO. I would react to them These were in the ingredients from one site that sells them 100% Certified Organic Ingredients: Almond Butter, Date Paste, Agave Nectar, Brown Rice Protein, Raisins, Flax Sprout Powder, Soy Sprout Powder, Quinoa Sprout Powder, Sesame Seeds, Brown Rice Crisps,... -
You may have DH. Your plan to see a derm is a good one. If they do a biopsy to look for DH make sure they are biopsying the area beside the blister not the blister itself.

ARCHIVED Are Wheat Patch Tests Accurate ?
ravenwoodglass replied to pat0301's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Allergy testing will not diagnose celiac because it is not an allergy. Not that it does not have value for true allergies it just won't give you any answers where gluten is concerned. If you don't want to biopsy then the best thing you can do is just to go gluten free for a month or preferably two to see if it makes a difference health wise. With the low... -
ARCHIVED Is This A Dh Blister?
ravenwoodglass replied to missybean's topic in Dermatitis Herpetiformis
I get DH sores in that real pleasent place also when I get glutened. I think gluten is still doing it's dirty work even as it leaves the body. I also had a doctor who looked at a lesion, this one was on the back of my neck no less. and say 'gee that looks like herpes'. Of course they didn't do any tests or anything to see if it was and of course they also... -
Hair Loss Post Gluten Free?
ravenwoodglass replied to Crayons574's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
I lose a lot of hair if my hair products have either gluten or soy ingedients. Have you checked yours? I also will lose hair if I eat soy, are you having any other issues that may point to an additonal intolerance? -
ARCHIVED Rosarita Refried Beans
ravenwoodglass replied to Frances03's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Thank you for your kind words about my brother. Yes it was, and sometimes still is, hard. Losing a twin is like losing a part of yourself. He was a special person and like the rest of the family likely a celiac. He had given the world what he was meant to contribute though and even though his time was short he made the most of that time. -
ARCHIVED Are Wheat Patch Tests Accurate ?
ravenwoodglass replied to pat0301's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
I would stay away from it and from gluten. Are they telling you that you are not celiac because your not DQ2 or DQ8? Is that why they are allergy testing? Not all celiacs have one of those two genes. There are those of us that are not 2 or 8 and are still celiac. Even if you are classed as 'gluten intolerant' you really need to be just as strict with... -
ARCHIVED Rosarita Refried Beans
ravenwoodglass replied to Frances03's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Not neccesarily, just wait till you have healed up well and then try them. But I bet the ones you make taste better. Have you tried freezing the ones you make for busy days? -
You have already been helpful and supportive to us here yourself. Thanks for the pat on the back and right back at you.

ARCHIVED Are Wheat Patch Tests Accurate ?
ravenwoodglass replied to pat0301's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
For allergies yes, for intolerances no. Allergies are a histamine reaction and intolerances are a antibody reaction. If the patch test produced blisters you may have DH. If the area is very itchy you may want to consider going to a derm and having them biopsy the area next to the lesion looking for DH, the skin form of celiac. -
ARCHIVED Eating Gluten Free And Nauseous Everyday, Advice!
ravenwoodglass replied to Kathleen Smith's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Check the bag on those pretzels. If memory serves me they are loaded with soy. I am extremely intolrant of soy and I did finally find one pretzel that is gluten free. They are put out by Ener-g and called Wylde Pretzels. They are really good. Also be careful of the corn chips. Many are made in plants that use a lot of gluten ingredients and the CC can... -
ARCHIVED Rosarita Refried Beans
ravenwoodglass replied to Frances03's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I wouldn't be able to eat them but there are many who could. Not all of us react to distilled gluten grains. Since you are very new to the diet I would pass on those until you heal a bit more. Your own refries are really easy to make. Just take some canned or cooked fresh beans and put them in a fry pan with a bit of bacon fat. Crush them up with a fork... -
ARCHIVED Biopsy Results Back, Vili Inflammation, No Celiac Evidence
ravenwoodglass replied to Coconutmilk's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Are you eating fresh unprocessed foods or have you added in gluten free goodies? If you have been eating a lot of gluten free baked goods back off for a while. If any of those products have codex wheat starch in them stay away from that completely as most of us will react. Also do you live with other folks who eat gluten? If you do there are precautions... -
ARCHIVED Man, I Dont Feel Well!
ravenwoodglass replied to Frances03's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
If you only started the diet 2 days ago you may even still be reacting to the gluten you ate 3 days ago. For right now the simpler you can eat the better. I agree with the other poster who advised staying away from soy for now and you should also try to limit the dairy until you have healed a bit. It can take awhile for us to heal and the less 'stress... -

ravenwoodglass replied to Fiddle-Faddle's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
Welcome to the board. It can be tough at first when diagnosed so don't be afraid to post any questions or vent a little. Make sure your whole family gets tested for celiac, even if they don't seem to have symptoms.
