  1. I am glad the visit went well and you were able to teach your doctor something. Now on to the business of healing!!!!!!
  2. I am sorry you have had to go through so much. What was the test that came back positive? Was it the test for occult blood in the stool or was it an xray or CT? If it was the test for blood in the stool that can have many reasons for a positive result and not all are as dire as cancer. Whichever test it was it is good that they are checking things out...
  3. The best way to get a for sure about whether the Xanax is gluten free is to call your pharmacist and have them check. You can do it over the phone. They should also note in your 'chart' that you are gluten free but remind them to check anyway whenever you fill a script. I can certainly sympathize with the aftereffects of misdiagnosis! I am still looking...
  4. Yes it could be. Have you mentioned it to your doctor? In celiacs it can sometimes come from a B12 deficiency. Sublingual B12 will help in that cases.
  5. Sounds like a glutening to me, but it may not have been any of the items you listed. We all know how you feel, I think most of us have been there especially in the beginning. It can be very frustrating at first, in part because not every company is as good at labeling and diclosing shared facilities. Some companies don't disclose barley malt for example...
  6. It does sound like DH. It seems that folks with DH are often the ones who react to gluten distilled grains in either alcohol or vinegar. I should do a 'poll' on that sometime. DH can get infected and you would need the antibiotic ointment if that was the case but it was useless for me as far as these outbreak process goes. The only thing that helped for...
  7. Not much to add other than that Celiac is covered under the ADA. You should go to the ADA office at school and see what help they can provide. Also you may be getting CC'd badly working with the little ones. Their snacks and even some of the stuff they may use for play could be an issue.
  8. Have you checked whether your shampoos etc are safe? What has you dermatologist said about it and have they tested it and confirmed it is DH? If they have then gluten may be sneaking in somewhere.
  9. In addition to talking to your doctor about testing for celiac get to a derm and ask them specifically to look for DH, the skin form of celiac. They need to biopsy beside the rash not the rash itself. Here is a link to the NIH's article on DH. A diagnosis of DH is a diagnosis of celiac so if the test is positive you need no more testing after that, just...
  10. Bringing in a stool sample is a good idea, finding a different doctor even better. Stool testing is what they need to do and many times they will request 3 samples in case they were missed on the first on. They should give you a kit for collecting. Also do make sure that the Xanax you are taking is gluten free. If it is name brand it most likely isn...
  11. Doctors don't have the slightest idea what is gluten free and what isn't. We have to check everything they prescribe whether it is OTC or script. The Miralax should have a contact number for the company I would call them and ask them directly or ask your pharmacist to help. I am sorry this got you.
  12. Marshmellow Fluff is gluten-free, below is from their website. Enjoy your treats. I like to drizzle gluten-free dark chocolate or add gluten-free minichocolate chips to mine. Open Original Shared Link Is Fluff gluten free? Yes; it is also Kosher.
  13. I wish I had some advice for you but I did want you to know how sorry I am that this has happened to your son. I think your plan is sound and I do hope he is feeling better soon.
  14. It also might have the opposite effect. If there is more of the grains we use that are planted then the supplies would be larger and usually when there is a large supply of something the cost of that thing goes down not up. There is also a wheat blight happening that is wiping out whole crops. Similar to what happened with the potatoe blight. If a...
  15. Any guide is out of date the day it is put together. That doesn't mean that nothing on it is valid but it does mean that we have to take them IMHO with a grain of salt. I find it more helpful to call the company with any new product that I use. It also has the benefit of coupons lots of times. You also have the confusion over what is safe and what isn...
  16. I agree. The only time I took pancreatic enzymes is when I had a case of acute pancreatitis and I only took them for a short time. After I stopped seeing whole undigested food in my stool I stopped taking them with every meal and then just took them with a heavy fat meal for a week or two after that. They are NOT something I personally would want to take...
  17. For me it was just a few days and it never reappeared.
  18. I was at a store today with someone who was buying sushi. I have never looked at the stuff as it does not appeal to me at all. But I was reading the labels and all the ones I picked up were definately not gluten free. I would make sure if I was getting sushi that it had a label that listed all the ingredients.
  19. Please do give the diet a shot. Your body can often tell you what testing can not. There are a significant number of us that have had false negative tests. Be as strict with the diet as you possibly can and do not 'cheat' or those antibodies will remain active. If you do choose to see an allergist it might be a good idea to see one who can set you up...
  20. The bone density test is simply a special type of xray. There is no prep and they don't inject anything. It is not painful. If they do find that you have osteoporosis or osteopenia (which is a step below osteoporosis ) make sure you doctor checks your levels of vitamin D. If they find that you do have one or the other there are things you can do to rebuild...
  21. Sorbital can be wheat or corn derived and the labeling regs for food would not apply to a toothpaste. I would call the company as was previously stated to be sure. I would not ask if it is 'gluten free' I would ask if there are any wheat or barley derived ingredients. Flavorings can be a source of hidden gluten usually in the form of barley.
  22. I am glad the Pepto helped it was what I used to. I had pain also however I didn't do a gluten challenge for the last one but had a nasty reaction to the prep. Doc gave me Prilosec cause he found lots of irritation but since I had no pain at all before the procedure I decided to give the pepto a try first. If you still have to take the pepto for more than...
  23. As you have most likely seen from the link Momma Goose gave you with the IGA deficiency the most important level is the IgG. The deficiency would cause a false negative with the other tests. It was a good thing your doctor ran the full panel. It is unlikely IMHO that the IgG was a fasle postive and more likely that the others were a false negative. No...
  24. Welcome to the board. If my memory of medical terminology is correct Erythematous duodenopathy means that you duodenum was red and inflamed. And yes this could be from celiac. I hope the biopsies give you a definate answer but even if they are negative you should give the diet a good strict try.
  25. (((((((((hugs))))))))))) Wish there was some way to help with this, I don't have as many intolerances as you do but the ones I do have make me frustrated too sometimes. The one I hate the most is soy. It drives me crazy that it is in sooooo much. Sometimes I just give in to wanting something as simple as a ranch dressing on a salad. Like you I suffer...
