You can get the vitamins Riceguy mentioned at any drugstore and most grocery stores. Make sure the label says they are gluten free. If you decide to try the Xanax make sure you don't get the name brand as it is not gluten free but the generic is. The generic is also really inexpensive, I just paid a little over $8 for a 3 month supply that my doctor wrote...

ARCHIVED Negative For Celiac
ravenwoodglass replied to Jackie927's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
What I bolded is very significant. You could very well still have celiac as being IGA deficient will likley cause a negative result on blood testing. You could continue on gluten and ask for a biopsy, but those do have false negtives also. Whether you are celiac or gluten intolerant damage is still being done to your body and you need to be just as strict... -
ARCHIVED Makeup And Lipstick
ravenwoodglass replied to txplowgirl's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
There are a few threads in the products section on gluten free makeup and lip products, be sure to check them out. There is some nice stuff available. -
I like cream of buckwheat cereal made with some cinnamon and a bit of sugar or Thai Kitchen Rice Noodles in a chicken broth and fresh fruit or applesauce for a snack. I hope you feel better soon.

Please do not take the gene testing to be an absolute yes or no to whether you have celiac or not. Most places only test for 2 out of the at least 7 known celiac related genes. Genes are not an absolute although they can be helpful in the diagnostic process. Also if you are going to persue fruther blood or biopsy testing you need to keep eating a full...

ARCHIVED Pursuing A Diagnosis
ravenwoodglass replied to LeAnne8790's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Please make sure that you give the diet a try especially since you do think you have a reaction to wheat. There are many instances of false negatives in both blood and biopsy, for many different reasons. Being diligent about gluten just might help the other issues you are dealing with. -
ARCHIVED Shampoo & Conditioner
ravenwoodglass replied to hollyres's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I also use the Garneir products but until I developed an allergy to soy I really liked the Giovanni line. I found it in the health food dept of my regular grocery store. -
I am someone who has extreme problems with anxiety. It actually got much worse after going gluten free, in part because my reactions to gluten are so severe and because I have PTSD. Doctors have been trying to shove antidepressants down my throat for years and I react very badly to them. I become serisously suicidal on them. I finally got a doctor to...

I am sorry you had such an awful experience with this doctor. Unfortunately experiences like yours are all to common. If a doctor derived diagnosis is essential for you then do look for another doctor. You do also have the choice of simply going gluten free, sometimes the resolution of issues can be enough for our GPs or Internists to at least recognize...

ARCHIVED Need Your Input
ravenwoodglass replied to Celiachelblings's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Those are definately strongly positive tests. You should see a big difference in her health and perhaps even mood after you get the diet started. There is a lot to learn at first but it will be well worth it and you have come to a great place for info and support. -
ARCHIVED Way To Cure Celiac?
ravenwoodglass replied to Becci's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
What the doctor may have meant is symptom relief. That diet would relieve celiac symptoms however it would not 'cure'. Eating just brown rice, veggies and beans would not be unhealthy as the combo of the beans and the rice would supply a complete protein. Boring yes but unhealthy no as long as a wide variety of veggies were used. -
ARCHIVED Bowel Incontinence
ravenwoodglass replied to Lynayah's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
With the numbness and the tingling going on you should get some sublingual B12. Make sure it is gluten free and make sure it is sublingual (dissolves under the tongue). The B12 should help with that and it will help your nerves 'heal' more quickly as it helps them to fire correctly. My nervous system issues impacted me much like MS, in part because I... -
ARCHIVED Frustrated, Confused, And Angry
ravenwoodglass replied to lloydke's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
"I had a bad flare up the following week and decided the heck with it and I started to limit the amount of gluton in my diet and by the time the endoscope was done I was feeling as good as I have for a year." This is very significant. I do hope you will go back on the diet. The fact that going gluten free made such a difference in the way you feel is... -
ARCHIVED Dry Socket Clove Paste
ravenwoodglass replied to pupok's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I am glad the paste is helping with the pain. I have never experienced dry socket but have heard the pain is horrendous. I have my fingers crossed for you that it is gluten-free. Much of the stuff dentists use is so hopefully this is also. I hope you heal quickly. -
ARCHIVED Blood Test Negative, But I'm Immunoglobulin A Deficient
ravenwoodglass replied to WilliamM's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Yes I have. So have many others. The biopsy is not a for sure thing either unfortunately. You can either pursue a biopsy, you could go with Enterolab, they do not diagnose celiac but can tell you if you are forming antibodies to gluten or you could just go back on the diet strictly. If the diet helps IMHO that is the best test there is. -
ARCHIVED Bowel Incontinence
ravenwoodglass replied to Lynayah's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Yes it can, especially if it has attacked the nervous system. I got a lot of help with this from a physical therapist who specialized in patients with issues of that type. My nerve damage was severe so I do have some residual issues but I am much better than I was. Your doctor can give you a script for the PT and insurance should cover it. -
ARCHIVED Premature Menopause
ravenwoodglass replied to Waiting's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
There is a chance at your age that your hormones will 'normalize'. When I was finally diagnosed my OB/GYN did say that if I started to menstrate again not to be concerned. Unfortunately it was to late for my system to 'turn on' again. I will keep my fingers crossed for you. -
ARCHIVED Painful/sore Small Intestine Pain?
ravenwoodglass replied to MomOf2PrettyGirls's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
I would not worry about cancer. I think your thoughts on scar tissue or possibly even a hernia would be more likely. Anyway try not to worry and hopefully the doctor will have some answers for you. -
ARCHIVED Dry Socket Clove Paste
ravenwoodglass replied to pupok's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Does your dentist know you are celiac? If he does he should have checked the product before use and I would go ahead and use it. If he doesn't know it is already in your mouth and you will know yourself before long. I would go ahead and use it under your circumatances unless you notice a reaciton. -
ARCHIVED What's Wrong With Me?
ravenwoodglass replied to Bookie53463's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
You need to get back on the diet. By going off it you risk comprimising pretty much any system in your body. That includes even the brain. Have you ever eliminated all dairy? You may have an issue with casien instead of lactose. You may want to consider seeing an allergist who can guide you in an elimination diet where you start out with 5 foods... -
ARCHIVED Should I Have A Comprehensive Bood Test? This Is Dire,
ravenwoodglass replied to Serversymptoms's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
It would be best to simply go to your doctor and request the tests. I doubt medicaid would pay for any medical tests without a doctors order. -
ARCHIVED Coeliacs Reversed?
ravenwoodglass replied to Saffy's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
No. After you go gluten free you will heal, but you do have to be strict with the diet. It is my understanding that after we have been gluten free for 5 years the lifethreatening effects of celiac, things like the associated cancers and such have the same chance of occuring as nonceliac population. We do have to be alert for signs of other autoimmune disorders... -
ARCHIVED First Week Going Gluten Free And Very Emotional!
ravenwoodglass replied to Jallen's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Sounds like you have gotten through the withdrawl and a trip with freinds successfully. You may still have some ups and downs but it will only get better and easier from here. The cankers will go away and chances are since you have seen your face clearing up your skin will keep improving. I would check out some of the gluten free makeups available if you... -
ARCHIVED Accurate Testing?
ravenwoodglass replied to Mamaof5's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
What you consider a benefit lead to my daughter, the only one of us who was diagnosed by both blood and biopsy to stop the diet. She paid for the gene test and was told that since she was not a DQ2 or DQ8 she could not possibly ever have celiac. She now attributes all celiac symptoms to stress. I am definately celiac and was very ill before I was diagnosed... -
Yes it can help. It needs to be weight bearing excercise but that combined with the calcium and D supplementation should help. Hopefully with your being young that will reverse the process.
