ARCHIVED Constipation
ravenwoodglass replied to LisaaaNoel's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
I had C for years before the daily D set in. After I was diagnosed things moved smoothly for a bit then I started having issues with C again. For me it turned out to be soy. When I went gluten free I increased my soy consumption a lot as it is in a lot of gluten-free foods and in much of the processed foods that I was eating. For me dropping the soy was... -
ARCHIVED Post-operative Gallbladder/bile Duct Problems
ravenwoodglass replied to DreamWalker's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
Gosh I wish I had some answers for you. I am so sorry you are having such trouble. Is there anyone who can help you with this? Perhaps a parent or other family member who can get ahold of the GI who told you to contact your GP for the med slip for class withdrawl? Also did they make certain the meds they gave you were gluten free? Have they done an endoscope... -
ARCHIVED Got Labs Back
ravenwoodglass replied to freeda's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Although the test for the TTG was negative there are cases of false negatives, unfortunately they are all too common for a number of reasons. If you are not going to pursue an endoscopic test for celaic then give the diet a good try. That's the truest test there is. -
ARCHIVED Painful/sore Small Intestine Pain?
ravenwoodglass replied to MomOf2PrettyGirls's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
I would get it checked out, preferably by the doctor that did your gallbladder surgery. I would imagine it could be any number of things and only your doctor can really tell you what's causing it. -
ARCHIVED Just Diagnosed And I Do Not Want To Believe It
ravenwoodglass replied to Liz790's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
My personal favorite is Kinnickinnick. I like the Italian bread and I also use their pizza crusts and waffles. Gluten Free Pantry makes a French Bread Mix that makes great deep dish pizza crust, I use that if it is more than just me eating pizza that day. -
ARCHIVED Pursuing A Diagnosis
ravenwoodglass replied to LeAnne8790's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Yep put the TV in there and maybe even a comfy chair. The prep isn't fun but soon everything will be done and you will be on the road to healing. -
It can be tough at first but you'll get the hang of it. Start out with whole foods, fresh meats and fresh single ingredient frozen fruits and veggies, rice, potatoes etc. The less processed stuff you eat at first the easier it will be. I have a couple dinner suggestions that I use on the days that I really don't want to cook- Baked Chicken (I just put...

ARCHIVED Glutamine
ravenwoodglass replied to Gfresh404's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Thanks for posting that article. I would stop taking it if I were you. I think you are right, in light of the info that was in it that glutamine may very well be causing your insomnia. Most of the info I saw on other sites stated it should be taken with food but under the circumstances you might want to stop it all together and see if the insomnia resolves... -
ARCHIVED Major gluten-free Disappointment/a Bit Of Anxiety
ravenwoodglass replied to madsunny's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
It sounds like the coop has corrected the issue as soon as they realized there was one. I could be wrong but what seems to have happened is that someone who is perhaps not real knowledgeable about gluten and cross contamination issues was baking the products in the same kitchen where they were making regular baked goods. Even the big companies don't realize... -
ARCHIVED I'm Enrolled In Intro To Foods...signed Up Before Dx
ravenwoodglass replied to Angels~Exist's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
If a lot of what they are doing involves the use of flour, ie baking, I personally would get out of the class. Once flour dust gets into the air it can take up to 2 days for it to settle and during that time you would be breathing it in. For a celiac that can cause a reaction. -
ARCHIVED Can You Be Glutened Topically?
ravenwoodglass replied to TotalKnowledge's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Your reactions almost sound like you were going into shock, I hope they aren't going to repeat the test. I wonder if having wheat injected sent it very quickly into the bloodstream and into the brain causing your sympathetic nervous system to basically freak out. Did you find out if any of the skin pricks were positive? For me tats and other needles... -
ARCHIVED Just Diagnosed And I Do Not Want To Believe It
ravenwoodglass replied to Liz790's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Couldn't have put it better myself. If you read my signature and the signatures of many of the other 'late' diagnosis celiacs you'll soon understand why you should be happy you have been diagnosed before you became severely ill. Celiac can do so really horrible things to a person and 'tummy' issues are just one aspect. You have found a good place to... -
ARCHIVED To Test Or Not?
ravenwoodglass replied to JustAGirl79's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
It really would be best if they went ahead and got the screening. There is something called silent celiac, where no GI symptoms are present and also celiac can effect just about any organ including the brain. Not everyone who carries the genes develops celiac and also celiac can appear at any time, usually after a stressor or severe illness. So if the... -
ARCHIVED Help Interpreting Blood Test!
ravenwoodglass replied to MM5079's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
You finally have your answer. When the tests are positive it is pretty certain that you are celiac. Even if the biopsy turns out to be a 'negative' you really should get on the diet. False negatives on both blood and biopsy are all too common. -
ARCHIVED Frustrated, Confused, And Angry
ravenwoodglass replied to lloydke's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
People with celiac disease do not have an allergy to gluten. They have an antibody reaction not a histamine one. Celiac is an autoimmune condition and celiacs can never go back to eating gluten. It can take a bit before gluten has obvious effect after someone has been off it a long time. That is why doctors used to consider it a 'child's' disease and... -
ARCHIVED Loooking For Help
ravenwoodglass replied to NitinG's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
It isn't unusual for us to also have other stuff that doesn't agree with us. Your system may not have liked the sorghum flour. Or if the sorghum flour was processed in the same place that gluten flours are processed it could have been crosscontaminated. I am glad to hear your relying on mostly homemade foods that will help you heal the quickest. I hope... -
It can take a bit to heal and most of us do have ups and when we first start the diet. You also could have been CC'd and at times it is hard to pinpoint what got us and sometimes we will pick up stomach 'bugs' and early on it can be hard to tell. I hope you are feeling better soon.

ARCHIVED Could This Be Celiac?
ravenwoodglass replied to AngelaMH's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
I don't know if you caught it early or not, if she had been diagnosed with chrons at 5 then she may have had celiac for quite some time and the meds have been masking the symptoms. If her blood tests are positive then you can be pretty certain that she has celiac. Celiac can end up effecting much more than just the gut. It can lead to thyroid issues, gallbladder... -

ARCHIVED I Think It's Celiac...
ravenwoodglass replied to pdx.lila's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
The blood tests could have been a false negative, it does happen more often than many doctors are aware of. You do sound like you could be one of us, the biggest key being the relief you got when you followed the diet. Do make sure that you are eating a full gluten diet if you are going to try and get diagnosed through an endoscopy. You need to be back... -
ARCHIVED Gluten Intolerance?
ravenwoodglass replied to terribeth07's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I would keep eating gluten for a week, if your system can stand it. That will give you a clearer idea of whether your gluten challenge was positive. How did you feel during the time you were gluten free? Did it help your symptoms at all? -
ARCHIVED Can You Be Glutened Topically?
ravenwoodglass replied to TotalKnowledge's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
With a skin prick test you wouldn't be glutened topically, they would be injecting it under your skin and from there it would go into the bloodstream. That would be different from topical glutening in that usually refers to gluten exposure through putting a lotion or shampoo etc onto intact skin. Could it be a reaction from having gluten injected, I would... -
ARCHIVED Positive Blood, Possibly Negative Biopsy
ravenwoodglass replied to Lisa79's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
There can be many reasons for a false negative on the endoscopy. We have 22 ft of small intestine and the damage can be patchy and there are changes that precede the full villi destruction that some doctors are not aware of to name just a couple. I am glad to see that you are going to put her on the diet no matter what the results of the biopsy are. You... -
I do understand the 'hoping it is' line of thought. Do be sure to try the diet after all testing is done, even if the test results are negative. It could make an incredible difference in your quality of life. Unfortunately testing can show false negatives all too often. It can be hard to adjust at first but if gluten is an issue for you and your son it...

ARCHIVED Coffee Processed Without Gluten
ravenwoodglass replied to BuffyWWJD's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
If you like sugar in your coffee you can take a vanilla bean crack it up a it then put it into a jar of sugar, seal and leave it a couple of days and it will give a great vanilla scent and flavor to the sugar you add to the coffee.
