ARCHIVED No Villi Atrophy But Do Have Inflamation
ravenwoodglass replied to srthomas21's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Please go gluten free all the time not just whenever you can. Also there are lots of false negatives but not false postives with blood testing. If you had a postive blood test, even just a little positive it is a positive test. In addition the genetic testing leaves a lot to be desired. If I had been gene tested before diagnosis I would have been told... -
ARCHIVED Iga Anti-t.tg Levels Still High
ravenwoodglass replied to Lisa79's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
I avoid anything processed on the same lines, a lot of us do. Another thing to look at is nonfood sources of gluten, if you haven't eliminated them already. Things like your toiletries, pet foods and litters, arts and crafts and home repair items can all be a problem. Check all your meds, OTC and script (generic are the biggest risk because they can change... -
ARCHIVED How Many People Are Actually Self-diagnosed?
ravenwoodglass replied to no-more-muffins's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Understatement of the year. If I had continued listening to my doctors I would be dead by now. No exaggeration. I thank God for the savvy physical therapist I saw. -
ARCHIVED How To Help Dd With The Pain When Glutened?
ravenwoodglass replied to kbdy's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
If this has not stopped by now please call an ER and ask them if there is anything you can do. Do call before you go in, sometimes a nurse can help over the phone. If your doctor can be reached on the weekends and it is continueing call your ped first before the ER, that way if he thinks she should be seen he can call ahead and let them know you are coming... -
ARCHIVED Going Without Eating Gluten And Then Eating It Again?
ravenwoodglass replied to wikipedia's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
If you are seventeen you are old enough to be emancipated legally. I agree with the folks who said to let them take you the hospital, you may be able to get some help through them. Getting a hold of your doctor is also a good idea, you are old enough to do that yourself. Also do you have any friends or family members who might be able to take you in for... -
ARCHIVED Does Severe Lactose Intolerance Mean Celiac?
ravenwoodglass replied to jasonD2's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Lactose intolerance is pretty common in adults. But then again so is undiagnosed celiac. However celiac often has a trigger, like an illness or stressor, which the parasitic infection and treatment for it would have been. Since you say the LI developed after this infection it could very well be caused by celiac. If the LI is part of the celiac picture... -
ARCHIVED Lost A Lot Of Weight After Going Gluten Free
ravenwoodglass replied to MomOf2PrettyGirls's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
You say you went on the diet a few months ago. I would not be concerned. If the weight loss has come about during a very short time frame, like a week or two, and you have not increased your activiity level and are consuming the same calories then you might want to get checked out. Otherwise I would relax. I lost about 15 lbs myself in just the month... -
ARCHIVED Biopsy - Got Some Questions
ravenwoodglass replied to Sparkle1988's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
The chance of an adverse reaction to the anesthesia that they would use is not a high one. The procedure is a very quick procedure and the anesthesia is a light anesthesia that would wear off quickly. Also in the rare event of an adverse reaction to the anesthetic the anesthesiologist would be right there to counter any ill effects. -
ARCHIVED How Many People Are Actually Self-diagnosed?
ravenwoodglass replied to no-more-muffins's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
If this is the same doctor I would insist that the second endoscopy be gratis. He should have done the biopsies when he did the first one or at least blood tested you before the scope. His actions IMHO were irresponsible and did nothing for you but the second procedure will definately help his bank account. Doctors like this make me sooo angry. By the... -
ARCHIVED Going To Nutritionist?
ravenwoodglass replied to Googles's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
The only treatment for celiac is the diet. Your health center should be notified of your postive diagnosis, you can have copies of your records either sent to them or you can get them from the doctor's that did the diagnosis and give them copies. There are some tests that should be done, you should have your antibodies rechecked at 6 months to a year, if... -
If the med is helping you stay with it as long as you are not having gluten symptoms. Whether trace amounts will cause a noticeable reaction is dependant on a lot of factors. Most important of them being how sensitive someone is.

ARCHIVED Roasted Nuts/sunflower Seeds O.k.?
ravenwoodglass replied to David's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Some nuts use flour in the processing of the nuts, usually those are 'dry roasted'. Because the flour is on the lines and not part of the ingredients it does not have to listed on the label. The source of your issue could also be CC. Many of us avoid items in the bulk dept because there is a high risk of CC with them. -
Yes, my DH was misdiagnosed as 'poison ivy in my bloodstream' Although no doctor even called it impetigo I was sent home from school more than once during bad outbreaks because the school nurse was sure that was what it was. We had to get a note from my clueless derm stating that no it wasn't impetigo it was 'poison ivy'. Impetigo is an infection and can...

ARCHIVED Fast Fixin On The Go Southwestern Omelet
ravenwoodglass replied to BigDogz's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Walmart is now labeling thier gluten free items. Is this one of their private label products? If that is the case if it doesn't have the gluten free label I avoid it. -
ARCHIVED Biopsy - Got Some Questions
ravenwoodglass replied to Sparkle1988's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
The biopsy process is an easy one for most of us. If you decide to go with sedation they would generally use IV sedation. If the idea of an IV makes you too stressed out you could go with just the throat spray. Either way what happens is they would put a mouthpiece in your mouth and then you swallow a thin tube, the endoscope, With this tube they can look... -
ARCHIVED Iga Anti-t.tg Levels Still High
ravenwoodglass replied to Lisa79's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
It can take some time for the antibodies to leave your system. You have had a substantial drop in the last 4 months which shows your doing pretty good on the diet. How are your symptoms? Have they improved? -
ARCHIVED Elimination Diet- Reintroduction Period
ravenwoodglass replied to goatmilkpower's topic in Food Intolerance & Leaky Gut
You want to eat each new item in a pure form and have it 3 times a day for a week. If you haven't had any reaction after a week that food is safe for you. If you react before the week is up of course you would stop the challenge with that food, drop it and then after the symptoms resolve go on to the next new food. -
ARCHIVED Does The Neuropathy Go Away
ravenwoodglass replied to dream77's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
First off on the B12, the regular pills that you swallow are not going to do you any good if you have celiac. You really need the sublinguals which will seem to have a lot but B12 has no toxic level, any excess is simply excreted. They did an MRI on me which showed 5 UBO's (unidentified bright objects) these lesions look like demylinating lesions but... -
ARCHIVED Please Help Me Decide Whether To Have Gene Test...
ravenwoodglass replied to glutenmommy's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I hope your husband does listen to you, he could most likely help a lot of his patients. Any of his patients that also have IBS or other health issues in additon to the migraines should be tested for celiac at the very least. I have never had another migraine since I went gluten free, ever, unless I was glutened and I am not alone in that. If you do decide... -
I hope I didn't come across to harshly, if I did I apologize. I would give anything to have been diagnosed and have my kids diagnosed when we were all still young, we missed out on so much. I don't show up in bloodwork and it delayed my diagnosis by so many years that irreparible damage was done, including to my marriage. You could introduce your freinds...

ARCHIVED Sugar Levels And Gluten
ravenwoodglass replied to dream77's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
I am glad to see your going on the diet is helping with your BS issues. As you know I noticed a definate corelation between being glutened and having my BS go up out of the range it should be in. Have you ever had your doctor do an A1C? That's a blood test that measures your average BS over a 3 month period. That might be helpful for you also. I hope... -
I didn't seem to get a gluten reaction from it on the whole 5 days I was taking it but it wasn't something that did me personally any good. Sure I had no anxiety, I didn't care about anything and by day 5 I didn't care if I ate or even moved out of my chair. If I had known there was any chance of there being gluten in it I would not have taken it at all...

ARCHIVED Questions! Any Thoughts< Suggestions? Daughter Now Having Symptoms!
ravenwoodglass replied to camsmom's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
If that was your total IGA then you are IGA defiecient and the blood test could be a false negative. Has your GI suggested or done an endo on you? It doesn't sound like he did. There are some of us that just don't show up in blood work. You may be one of those. You could go on the diet and see if it helps or you can go back to the GI and ask for an... -
ARCHIVED Should I Have My Daughter Tested By More Than Blood?
ravenwoodglass replied to foodiegurl's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
You could consider Enterolab testing, they don't diagnose celiac but they can tell you whether she is making antibodies to gluten and they can also tell if her system is not absorbing fat. The floating stools can be sign of that. -
Just be aware that there is an even higher risk of a false negative with little ones than there is with adults, and the NIH estimates that 30% of adults will have a false negative with the blood work. When positive results are there the diagnosis is pretty certain. If you are always borderline anemic that is another red flag for celiac. Although you...
