ARCHIVED Diagnosis In Progress
ravenwoodglass replied to freeda's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Welcome, you do sound like you are one of the 'family'. One word of caution though- if you are going to have an endo in the diagnostic process you have to keep eating gluten until that is done. Also there is a fairly high risk of a false negative both with blood testing and biopsy so no matter what the results of those you should give the diet a good strict... -
ARCHIVED Ms Symptoms Or Celiac?
ravenwoodglass replied to KimsHere's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Hi, I should have responded to this sooner but have been having some nonceliac issues that have been preventing me from being here as much as I would like. I was thought to have MS for a long time. As Jersey mentioned I do have brain lesions from celiac that are very similiar to the lesions that they find with MS however they are in a different location... -
ARCHIVED Does The Neuropathy Go Away
ravenwoodglass replied to dream77's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
If your neuropathy is celiac related you need to avoid more than just wheat. You also need to avoid barley, rye and oats. Otherwise the antibodies will not resolve. As for whether it will go away or not for most of us it will in time. Something that may help quite a bit is some sublingual B12, just make sure it is gluten free. My neuropathy as far... -
ARCHIVED Celiac Disease? Not If It Is
ravenwoodglass replied to Doyle's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I am going to make 2 suggestions. One it wouldn't hurt to ask your doctor for a celiac panel. Second and perhaps more important is that you see an allergist. The reactions you are having sound like they could be allergic reactions. Do check and see before you make an allergist appointment to see if they will help with doing an elimination diet or test... -
ARCHIVED What To Do I'm Driving The Wife Mad...
ravenwoodglass replied to and-h's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
If I read correctly you went back to gluten after the negative blood test. If that is the case I would go ahead and ask the doctor to retest you after you have been back on gluten for a couple of months. You do sound much like you could be one of us so even if those tests are negative you may want to give the diet another good strict try. -
ARCHIVED Positive Gene Results (dq2)...now What?
ravenwoodglass replied to Crayons574's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
You continue on the diet. The most important thing in your post, IMHO even more important than the double DQ2, is what I have highlighted in your post. -
ARCHIVED Scope Coming Up Really Nervous
ravenwoodglass replied to ravenwoodglass's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Thanks for the replies. I ended up just eating very lightly and low residue foods rather than a full fast. Although the Moviprep was expensive I do not seem to have had any nasty reactions to it, well other than what it is supposed to do. I had the procedure today and they used an anesthesiologist and put me out this time. The hardest part was waiting... -
ARCHIVED Need Unhealthy Food Advice
ravenwoodglass replied to Suprmom's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Have you ever considered Enterolab? If your gluten light or have not been gluten-free for over a year they can still detect the gluten antibodies in your stool and they can do a gene panel that checks for more of the celiac related genes than most labs. As for unhealthy gluten free food, if you are wondering if it is carb/fat issue you could try perhaps... -
ARCHIVED Need Unhealthy Food Advice
ravenwoodglass replied to Suprmom's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
If your gluten free except when you eat out and this is the only time you are getting sick then what your doing is a gluten challenge whenever you eat out. Have you ever tried going to a place that has a gluten free menu, like PF Changs or Outback and seeing if the same thing happens? If you want a doctor derived diagnosis then you do need to go back to... -
ARCHIVED Betty Crocker gluten-free Mixes
ravenwoodglass replied to purple's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
My local Wegmans has them in. I can't wait to try the Devil's Food with gobs of whipped cream on top. -
ARCHIVED 30th Wedding Anniversary
ravenwoodglass replied to debmidge's topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
Congrats. I hope the day is wonderful for you both. -
ARCHIVED Could I Have Celiac?
ravenwoodglass replied to bacon pants's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Not always. There are people who are totally asymptomatic when diagnosed and seem to suffer no ill effects but the damage was still found. Doctors call them 'silent celiacs'. -
ARCHIVED I'm A Proud Momma!
ravenwoodglass replied to amybeth's topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
Congrats on his arrival. I am glad he is doing well despite being in a hurry to get here. -
ARCHIVED Is It Possible Or Not?
ravenwoodglass replied to UsmcGf's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Did you have any testing for celiac before you went gluten free? If you did and the results were postive then you are celiac. If you went on the diet on your own and then decided to be tested your being already gluten free would give you a negative result even if you are celiac. Your brothers girlfreind is right. If you are going to challenge gluten... -
ARCHIVED Trying To Find Celiac-aware Dentist In Upper Fairfield County Ct
ravenwoodglass replied to bigapplekathleen's topic in Doctors
I don't live in your area but one thing you could try is to get your records from the dentist who retired and see if any new dentist will use the same products he did. -
ARCHIVED gluten-free Cottage Cheese
ravenwoodglass replied to terryjean's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
My best guess would be as a thickener or binder in the cottage cheese and with the shredded they may coat the shreds to keep them from sticking together. Many companies now use potato starch for that now but some may still use gluten flours. -
ARCHIVED New Gluten Free Ice Cream Sandwiches
ravenwoodglass replied to savvvyseller's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Those sound sooo good. I might suggest since it is a long drive for you that you call them first and see if they have them in stock before making the trip. I would also bring a cooler and a couple ice packs just to make sure they make it home without turning into soup. -
ARCHIVED Eating Gluten Free Bread, Feel Drowsy After Intake
ravenwoodglass replied to Serversymptoms's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
If you think the issue may be from yeast Ener-g does make a yeast free bread. It has to be microwaved or toasted to be anywhere near palatable but it would be a bead option if yeast is a problem. There are also Chebe mixes which are gluten and yeast free. -
ARCHIVED Weakly Positive-waiting For Doc's Explanation
ravenwoodglass replied to Seamuskitty's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
While doing a lengthy challenge and making yourself sick enough to get a positive biospy, assuming you don't have a false negative one, which does happen, is the 'gold standard' for a diagnosis if you are firmly against this process you do have the option of going gluten free based on your positive blood work and seeing if the diet helps. -
ARCHIVED Uncle Bens Rice And Wild Rice
ravenwoodglass replied to ranger's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
The warning could mean any of the proteins or any combination of them were used. That was not a chance worth taking. I hope you feel better soon. You may want to check out Lundenberg wild rice instead. Always read the packages and err on the side of caution. -
ARCHIVED Eating Gluten Free Bread, Feel Drowsy After Intake
ravenwoodglass replied to Serversymptoms's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
This might be because you are getting to many carbs and sugar with no protein to balance things out. Have you tried any of the other nut butters? Do you get the same effect say after having toast with some eggs and sausage or bacon? Try some protein with your bread and jelly and see if the same thing happens. -
ARCHIVED Lip Balms?
ravenwoodglass replied to DadCares's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I can't answer about those specific brands but Chapstick lip balms were safe last time I checked. -
ARCHIVED Scope Coming Up Really Nervous
ravenwoodglass replied to ravenwoodglass's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Thanks for the replies. I'll get some of the waters that were mentioned and give them a try. This will be my third scope. The first was a breeze, the second was a nightmare. I do so hope that this one goes as smoothly as the first one. I noticed when I got the records from the doctor that did the first two that he failed to include the dulcolax in the... -
ARCHIVED Boyfriend Is Having Reactions...
ravenwoodglass replied to leadmeastray88's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
It is quite likely that he does have an issue with gluten. Symptoms often become more pronounced upon exposure when we eliminate it. If he is really doctor phobic what he might consider doing is going strictly gluten free for a bit and then challenge gluten by eating a full gluten diet for at least a week, if he can last that long. As far as I know, and... -
ARCHIVED The Wheat Crop Time - Bomb
ravenwoodglass replied to irish daveyboy's topic in Publications & Publicity
That's an interesting article. Hopefully if wheat becomes an endangered species, so to speak, the production of other gluten free grains will increase and perhaps even drive the price down as they become more commonly and widely grown. Wishful thinking perhaps.
