ARCHIVED Feria Hair Color
ravenwoodglass replied to raisin's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Hi and welcome. The question of whether it can be absorbed is a source of constant debate on here. If you could ask them for some links to this information it would be very helpful to us supersensitives. I called a smokers quit line to ask for free patches and one thing the rep did say was that if I showed any gluten symptoms after starting them to please... -
ARCHIVED What Would You Do?
ravenwoodglass replied to ravenwoodglass's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Thanks for posting this. I checked 7 years ago about the gum and was told they didn't know if it was gluten-free at that time and reccommended I not use it for that reason. Thanks also for the coupon link. I'll open it up, print it out and take it the store with me this afternoon. I have been able to cut down by using the roll your own variety of tobacco... -
ARCHIVED Is It Gluten-intolerance?
ravenwoodglass replied to mott07's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Were the blood tests for the drug levels done before or after you started eating gluten free? If they were done after you started the diet there is a possbility that your villi are healing and your body is now absorbing more of the drug. I am sure your doctor will continue to check those levels and adjust as needed. Something else you may find, you may... -
ARCHIVED I Need Your Assistance To Understand My Results
ravenwoodglass replied to Rockgurl's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
You are a DQ8, one of the recognized celiac related genes and DQ7 the gluten sensitive one. The US has finally started to recognize that there are more celiac related genes than used to be thought. For a long time if you were not DQ8 or DQ2 you would be told that you were not celiac if you live in the US. This is not the case in other countries where the... -
ARCHIVED Please Give Me Advice
ravenwoodglass replied to miloandotis's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Do keep in mind also that there are some of us who will show a false negative on the blood tests even on a full gluten diet and very symptomatic. Just make sure you are eating a full gluten diet until all tests are done and then no matter what the results give the diet a good strict try for a bit to see if symptoms resolve. -
ARCHIVED What Would You Do?
ravenwoodglass replied to ravenwoodglass's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
This is also an excellent point. He has been nagging me about my smoking now for years and it sure hasn't gotten me to stop. I need to keep my motherly intentions in check and he does know I will be here for him whenever he needs me to be. I think for now all I can do is keep my mouth shut. It is his body, he is very smart and once the symptoms... -
ARCHIVED What Would You Do?
ravenwoodglass replied to ravenwoodglass's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Talking to his closest freind may be something to think about doing. When he first went gluten free his friends spoke about how different he was and how good the changes were. Maybe if they bring up the negative changes instead of me he might be more willing to do what he needs to do. Thanks for mentioning as I hadn't even thought about that. -
ARCHIVED What Would You Do?
ravenwoodglass replied to ravenwoodglass's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I did that also the first couple of years and it took me a while to realize that gluten was all I talked about for way too long. If I could turn back the clock I wouldn't have pushed quite so hard. It's now coming back to bite me in butt as they say since they turn off their ears the minute the subject comes up. He is a smart young man though and I hope... -
ARCHIVED Has Anyone Ever Sold Food At A Farmer's Market?
ravenwoodglass replied to munchkinette's topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
Cooking food for resale has a lot of regs to it. What you may want to do is to visit the market and talk to some of the other food sellers that sell there. Another source of info might be your states Health Dept. as regs may vary from state to state. In many states the health dept might need to inspect the facility where the items are made, in this case... -
ARCHIVED Gluten In Make-up?
ravenwoodglass replied to Tiff's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Hives are an allergenic reaction. I would try a different brand of makeup. It could be a wheat based product your skin is reacting to or it could be an allergy to some other component. It wouldn't hurt to try a product that is gluten free. If you do a board search there is a really long thread on a mineral makeup that a lot of folks really like and they... -
ARCHIVED I Freeze To Fast And Get To Hot Help!
ravenwoodglass replied to munkafats's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Your not an oddball at all as you have seen. The only thing I have found that helps is a fan on low pointed at my bed. Usually I am cold when I go to bed but at some point I get too warm. I toss off the blankets to the side usually at some point in the night. I then will wake up a bit when I cool off and pull them back over me. I also find no matter what... -
Many of the probiotics have dairy ingredients. If you are sensitive to dairy that may be an issue. One form of good probiotic bacteria that is dairy free is saurkraut. If you like it you may want to try that instead for a bit and see if it helps.

ARCHIVED Fresh Beans - Gluten-free?
ravenwoodglass replied to Roboalt's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Those beans and peppers will be fine. The dressing you use would be more of a concern. It is so nice of you to be checking into this for him. One word of caution though, if you use a wooden or scratched plastic cutting board and you are not gluten free it might be a good idea to cut them up on a plate instead. Also make sure the utensils you use are not... -
ARCHIVED Everything Is Negative, But I Don't Believe It
ravenwoodglass replied to Julianna's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I am normally a pretty easy going person but I get so angry that doctors are so behind in the genetic testing in the US and that they think the lack of those two recognised genes are absolute proof. It makes me really glad I was firmly diagnosed before I had gene panels run. I am glad to hear you don't believe it and are going on with the diet. I have... -
ARCHIVED Stool Test Positive!
ravenwoodglass replied to jshelton999's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Now you know and now you can heal. I am glad you finally got the confirmation you needed to stick with the diet although it sounds like the gluten challenges you did were pretty conclusive in themselves. As you already know it can be hard at first but in the end it is soooooo very worth the trouble. I hope you heal quickly and soon are feeling great but... -
My son went off the diet a few months ago, maybe closer to a year. He is in college and I haven't been able to see a lot of him the last year or so. I saw him yesterday and was frankly shocked. He looks 6 months pregnant. He doesn't appear to have gained any weight in any area other than his gut and it is obviously severe bloating. Here is my problem...

ARCHIVED Introduction And Thanks
ravenwoodglass replied to Mskedi's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Welcome, I am another blood negative celiac so I know how difficult the diagnosis process can sometimes be. As you have seen you found a great place for info and support. If you have any questions or just need to vent we are here for you. I hope you are feeling better soon. -
ARCHIVED Noone Else To Talk To.
ravenwoodglass replied to Roda's topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
They gave me amitryplimine in a low dose and also used ultrasound therapy. I don't know if RSD is something that effects just the arms or legs. It is an extreme response of the sympathetic nervous system to the surgery or an injury. If you can I would talk to the doctor about the hyperbaric treatment, you also might think about contacting someone who deals... -
ARCHIVED Is gluten-free Rice Chex Actually gluten-free?
ravenwoodglass replied to jasonD2's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Are you using cow's milk on the cereal? If you are I wonder if you are having issues with dairy products. -
ARCHIVED How Did I Get Glutened?
ravenwoodglass replied to hrly169's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Were any papers passed out during the meeting? When I was working in the school system I was constantly being glutened no matter how careful I was. The only possibility I could figure out was that when I was collecting papers after the kids would have their lunch that maybe there was some residue from the gluten they ate on their hands that transferred... -
I agree with the previous poster. I avoid Immodium unless I abosolutely have to go somewhere and want to avoid the D. It does nothing for the stomach pain. I also use Pepto Bismal but I use the liquid. For me it works very quickly.

ARCHIVED The Irony Of Going Gluten-free, For Me
ravenwoodglass replied to foodiegurl's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I do have a suggestion for the pain. When I get glutened I take name brand liquid Pepto Bismal. It does not stop the D that follows for me a couple of days later but it relieves the stomach pain within minutes and generally with just one dose. Don't know if it would work that well for you but if you can take it you may want to try it or keep some on hand... -
ARCHIVED Feeling Like It Finally Is Making A Little Sense
ravenwoodglass replied to SLB5757's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
You had a wise GI doctor. The false negative rates are really high unfortunately but GI's are getting a bit more knowledgeable about that lately. Personally I would forgo the genetic testing until the US starts to routinely recognize that more than just DQ2 or 8 are celiac related genes. It may not be a long wait though. WebMD had a recent article that... -
ARCHIVED Instant Breakfast
ravenwoodglass replied to Googles's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Thanks for posting that Momma Goose, I used Carnation Instant breakfast chocolate powder, not the chocolate malt, for years before I was diagnosed. I would mix it with my coffee in the morning since anything I ate for breakfast always made me sick. After diagnosis I used it at least 3 times a day with milk or rice milk to try and get my weight into a good... -
ARCHIVED Self Diagnose Celiac- How To Get A Thyroid Test?
ravenwoodglass replied to Serversymptoms's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
All the symptoms you list for thyroid problems are also problems that are seen with celiac. Have you asked your doctor to check your thyroid? Since he has decided your negative panel is 'proof' that you don't have celiac it shouldn't be hard to get him to test your thyroid levels. You could also hold off for a month or two on the throid panel and see if...
