ARCHIVED Saw The Gi Doc Today
ravenwoodglass replied to Live2BWell's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Perhaps the person who told you that you were diagnosed with a Sig was simply mistaken. To many a scope is a scope and when someones infant is ill the name of the specific test may not be formost on their mind. You may have had a Sig and an Endo in the same procedure. We really aren't pulling info out of the air. If you read my first post my source... -
ARCHIVED Dental Cleaning
ravenwoodglass replied to wakefield's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I just wanted to add a quick note on the blood test results. I had 3 family members who only showed one or two points into the positive range. One of those was scoped and had a positive scope and the others just went gluten-free and saw a great deal of resolution to their issues. I myself NEVER showed positive on blood testing even when in the end stages... -
ARCHIVED Joint/muscle Pain With Celiacs
ravenwoodglass replied to souzahanson's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
I also had severe joint and muscle pain, and they developed in childhood although the severe arthritic damage didn't start till much later. I also had neuro impact in childhood. I did have C, at times bad enough to impact but constant daily GI distress in the form of D did not happen until much later after my children were born. There is a gluten sensitive... -
ARCHIVED Saw The Gi Doc Today
ravenwoodglass replied to Live2BWell's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Jessica, With a comment like this from him you may end up finding you need to find another doctor. Perhaps not the case but there is no age limit for a colonoscopy and to give your age as the reason for doing the sigmoid instead of the colonoscopy is bogus IMHO. If nothing is found then he will be paid to do a colonoscopy as well, which is like doing things... -
ARCHIVED Dental Cleaning
ravenwoodglass replied to wakefield's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
There are some forms of whitening that your dentist can do, be sure to ask them to check the gluten statis of the product though. One caution though, many celiacs have defective enamel in their teeth, for some of them the whitening process done with trays in the dentist office is very painful. If your teeth are weak in addition to being yellowed you may... -
ARCHIVED Antibodies Elevated After A Year Plus - Mayo Test
ravenwoodglass replied to April in KC's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
How often are you having the minor CC reactions? When you have a reaction from even small amounts of CC it reactivates the antibody response. Those antibodies can take a long time to clear the system, when we have DH, which it sounds like you might, the antibodies remain in the skin for up to 2 years. I do not know how long they remain in the rest of the... -
ARCHIVED Saw The Gi Doc Today
ravenwoodglass replied to Live2BWell's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
From the NIH- Open Original Shared Link Flexible sigmoidoscopy (SIG-moy-DAH-skuh-pee) enables the physician to look at the inside of the large intestine from the rectum through the last part of the colon, called the sigmoid or descending colon. Physicians may use the procedure to find the cause of diarrhea, abdominal pain, or constipation. They also... -
ARCHIVED Finally Have A Diagnosis For Dd
ravenwoodglass replied to ptkds's topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
I am so sorry she has had to go through so much but so thankful you now have answers. Hopefully there is something the doctors can do to help her now. It has got to be such a relief for you to now understand what is going on with her. I hope her condition improves. -
ARCHIVED Genetic Test Results And Other Notables
ravenwoodglass replied to jasonD2's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Jason, that consitpation may very well one day develop into daily D. Meanwhile the antibodies are attacking the rest of your body. For some of us the only way we can get our heads around a diagnosis is by the biopsy. Unfortunately those do miss some of us or we can be told that the changes seen are not a result of celiac, or that they are preceliac... -
ARCHIVED Can They Be Gluten Related?
ravenwoodglass replied to Mom23boys's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
I have DH and when I get a bad glutening I get a flare and blistering. No Fun. Hemmies are now no issue for me without the gluten in the picture, but for many gluten may not be the only reason for a flare. -
ARCHIVED Doc Says More Protein...
ravenwoodglass replied to bakinghomesteader's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I get them at my local health food store and also at Wegmans. They both carry the powders also. The hemp powder I added to my smoothies with rice milk but I just didn't care for it. They came out too thick for me. The milk also makes a great shake but is also good for drinking straight on cereal etc. -
ARCHIVED Hla-dq2 And Hla-dq8
ravenwoodglass replied to cmbajb's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
The drug reaction had basically really whapped my pancreas so at first I took pancreatin by Twinlab but once I stopped seeing all my food coming through undigested, which took a couple of weeks, I switched to Super Enzymes by NOW. I still take the Super Enzymes on days when I eat meat but no longer seem to need them with every meal. -
ARCHIVED Not Sure What To Do
ravenwoodglass replied to jasonD2's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
This may sound like an odd suggestion but you may want to see if you can get a PT referral. They can help you retrain those muscles if the damage was due in part to the years of IBS. This applies if you are male or female. If you are reluctant to start a med you may want to try that first along with looking up food causes for bladder irritation. -
ARCHIVED Doc Says More Protein...
ravenwoodglass replied to bakinghomesteader's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I was going to mention hemp. I like the hemp milks more than the powders. The vanilla and chocolate are really good. I have used them for a complete dairy replacement and they do give a high amount of protein. Much more than most non-dairy milks. -
ARCHIVED Back On Gluten
ravenwoodglass replied to Gerri's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I have to agree strongly with this. Based on my own experience I would even advise that you make sure you have your cell phone on you at all times. Especially at night. Also if you find you are being woken up by severe cramps and D call your doctor the next day. Many doctors think we just have IBS but don't let us know that being woken by your system... -
ARCHIVED Hla-dq2 And Hla-dq8
ravenwoodglass replied to cmbajb's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I agree with you totally that people that do not have a resolution of symptoms need to be evalutated for other problems. Celiac or gluten intolerance not only are not the cause of all and every issue but can be involved in the development or occur at the same time as many other issues. When I answered your response to me about the genes I was speaking... -
ARCHIVED Hla-dq2 And Hla-dq8
ravenwoodglass replied to cmbajb's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
There are now 7 more genes other than DQ2 and DQ8 linked to celiac. You should consider googling '7 new celiac genes' lots will come up. Since all of my autoimmune issues have resolved and only rear their ugly heads when I get glutened, and since the primary problem I have left is gluten ataxia, something that it is not unusual to have not resolve, and... -
ARCHIVED Endoscopy Statement... Help Me Understand?
ravenwoodglass replied to pwalasik's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
As stated that was a positive endo. Some doctors will refer to changes like these as preceliac and give a diagnosis even if the biopsies missed damaged villi. Other doctors will not diagnose until the villi are totally gone. It is not unfortunately unheard of for someone with preceliac changes to hear that they can keep eating gluten and come back in a... -
ARCHIVED Elevated C Reactive Protein And Sed Rate
ravenwoodglass replied to pat e's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
The C reactive protein is a marker for inflammation. Since you are not really gluten free that could very well be the cause. You can't taste stuff, in fact most of us will not use gluten grain flours because the molecules become airborne and when you inhale them you get glutened. It takes 24 hours for all the flour dust to actually make it down to the... -
ARCHIVED Back On Gluten
ravenwoodglass replied to Gerri's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Please be sure to let the doctor know when things get severe. I am so sorry that your doctors are putting you through this. You have had a good response from the diet and up to 30% of us show negative on blood testing. I do hope that the 3 months of illness that you have ahead of you give the desired result. Celiac is the only disease where folks have... -
ARCHIVED Land O Lakes Vanilla Ice Cream?
ravenwoodglass replied to mn farm gal's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
If they have a phone number on the label it might be best to call them. I went to their website and they do seem to be quite celiac friendly, they even have a page of gluten free recipes and it appears they are selling a gluten-free baking mix. Unfortunately I couldn't find any info at all about the ingredients in the ice cream. -
ARCHIVED Hla-dq2 And Hla-dq8
ravenwoodglass replied to cmbajb's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I didn't have my genes tested until 5 years after diagnosis. I am a double DQ9, not a currently recognized celiac gene IN THE US. Here it is considered a gene for RA, in Turkey it is considered a excema gene, in Japan it is now recognized as a celiac gene but previously was linked only to a rare form of adult onset type 1 diabetes. Seem confusing? Well... -
ARCHIVED Hair Dye
ravenwoodglass replied to lilypad23's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Herbatint is made in Italy and I used to get it from my health food store and Wegmans. I loved it as it was a color that you mix in a bowl and apply and with my short hair one package was good for at least 2 full colors and a touch up. I used the permanent colors but I haven't checked on the wash out kind for gluten statis, but the phone rep was really... -
ARCHIVED Help! I Have Been Glutened!
ravenwoodglass replied to DMS's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
If your body is okay with asprin Pepto Bismal, name brand, usually helps my stomach pain with one dose. The body pain unfortunately I haven't found any relief for so hopefully someone else will chime in with something other than a warm bath as a suggestion. -
Dietary exclusion and challenge with positive results, like you clearly had are also diagnostic. For some of us unlucky ones it really is the only way to diagnose unless we are almost dead. There are some doctors who, if you have been having health issues and the diet results in long term resolution of those problems will give you a diagnosis.
