ARCHIVED What Do You Do When Glutened, To Recover?
ravenwoodglass replied to Gaye of PA's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I wish there was something we could do to speed the antibodies effects out of the system but unfortunately it seems only time takes care of it. I take pepto for the stomach pain, add in some digestive enzymes, try to find a few ways to pamper myself (I get severe anxiety and depression with gluten) and I make 'it is the gluten it will pass' my mantra. I... -
ARCHIVED Gluten Free Label On Dog Food
ravenwoodglass replied to Daxin's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I am glad I never picked up one of those bags. What they are doing is dangerous for us super sensitive folks. I go with Innova Evo, a totally grain free dog and cat food. My pets thrive on it. There are some other for sure gluten-free foods for pets out there, I just look for the ones that are totally grain free. Dogs and cats do not need grains in their... -
ARCHIVED Is It Dh Or Psoriasis?
ravenwoodglass replied to aprilsun's topic in Dermatitis Herpetiformis
My celiac gene, DQ9, in some countries is considered a gene for Psoriasis. I myself have DH, my DD who had to get one copy of my celiac gene as I have two, has psoriasis. Her psoriasis like my DH resolved gluten free. You do want to check and make sure any hair preperations are gluten-free, shampoos, conditioners, hair dye, gels etc. -
ARCHIVED I'm New
ravenwoodglass replied to Nora1219's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Welcome to the board. It does take some getting used to at first but the difference in the way you will feel and the diseases and conditions that you will avoid or that may go into remission if you have them makes it well worth the trouble. Chances are also really good that you are not the only one who is gluten intolerant in your family so please don't... -
The metallic taste is from the blood. Nose bleeds can come from a large variety of reasons. You should mention this to your doctor and at the same time ask him to do a vitamin and mineral panel on you. A simple look inside the nose can sometimes tell a doctor what the reason is and/or if there is a need for a referral to an ear, nose and throat doctor...

ARCHIVED Food Labelling And Poor Eyesight
ravenwoodglass replied to brainfood's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
The idea for a shelf mounted sheet is a great one and would be helpful to a lot of people. I hope the stores pick up on it. You should also make sure to get that sublingual B12. It can help a great deal with memory and alertness and it is not one of the vitamins you need to worry about taking too much of. Even if it doesn't help your eyesight it may... -
ARCHIVED Eye Misalignment
ravenwoodglass replied to fedora's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I am not sure this is the same thing that your son is experiencing but in my celiac family 2 of us have quite noticeable effects on our eyes. When glutened two if us, my DS and I, both will have one eyelid that droops. In us this is a neuro side effect and before diagnosis my right eye was often almost half closed and I was unable to open it fully. It... -

So glad the pain is over for you. I hope the recital is wonderful and you have a great time. -
ARCHIVED Antibody Testing - Can I Have Some Feedback
ravenwoodglass replied to AliB's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
It is too bad they won't give you a diagnosis based on the dietary response. I also show up negative on blood tests and it can be frustrating and life threatening when we do. I am so glad you were able to figure out the problem and are on your way to recovery. Doctors really are not a lot of help for most of us at this point. I feel for your frustration... -
ARCHIVED Producing 'gliadin Free' Wheat
ravenwoodglass replied to irish daveyboy's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
To me this seems stupid, they should just concentrate on increasing the use of safe alternatives. The reason why I say this is that as far as I know it is the gluten that gives the wheat the qualities that they want in wheat. If they manage to manipulate the genes is it really still wheat? And what if there is more to celiac reactions than just a reaction... -
ARCHIVED Chronic Stomach Pain--while Gluten-free
ravenwoodglass replied to healthynewman's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I have been under a great deal of stress lately and started getting really severe pains mostly right sided pain even when I just drank water. I don't know if it would help you but I went back to my digestive enzymes and it helped with the first dose. I tried some pepto, the thing I usually take for stomach pain and it didn't help at all that is why I did... -
ARCHIVED Diabetic ?
ravenwoodglass replied to dollamasgetceliac?'s topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
How much protein are you getting? Whenever you consume something that has a fair amount of carbs you should also get some protein. The protein is metabolised more slowly and will help prevent the steep drop in blood sugar that can cause the shakes. For example if you grab a snack a gluten-free pretzels grab a handful of nuts also. If you have toast make... -
ARCHIVED What Is This? Warn 0% Box Box Box Box Box
ravenwoodglass replied to ravenwoodglass's topic in Board/Forum Technical Help
Thanks guys for the clarification. The 0% was reassuring but I was alarmed that I could only see it on mine and thought others could see it also. Life has been throwing more difficulties and hard decisions my way the last couple of weeks and the stupid use of an unchecked hand lotion that smelled so great has me in a not nice place emotionally and physically... -

ARCHIVED What Is This? Warn 0% Box Box Box Box Box
ravenwoodglass posted a topic in Board/Forum Technical Help
When I log on today I found a warn icon next to my name and a zero percent with boxes. What the devil is this? I haven't seen it before and if I posted something someone didn't like why wasn't I PM'd or contacted about it? Well I have looked over the board a bit and see this next to noone else's name. I guess I am to assume that the powers that be no... -
ARCHIVED Bourbon Whiskey:
ravenwoodglass replied to jenvan's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Be sure to check out post # 33. I am glad for you that you can consume this with no ill effects but unfortunately it is not the case for all of us. -
ARCHIVED Bourbon Whiskey:
ravenwoodglass replied to jenvan's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Yes. You should wait and challenge them when you are symptom free. Challenge like you would a suspect food, have some daily for a week while consuming nothing else that would be suspect before you decide for sure whether you are someone who can tolerate. I know it sounds like a pain but it is easier in the long run IF you are one of us who reacts to distilled... -
ARCHIVED Gluten/wheat Related Intolerances
ravenwoodglass replied to blondebombshell's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
This doctor sounds like a real idiot. Of course gluten will cause IBS in folks that are CELIAC OR GLUTEN INTOLERANT. It sounds like this doc wants to make lots of money off of you. I noticed in your signature that you say you went gluten-free in August and then had a biopsy in December. This virtually ensured the biopsy would be 'negative'. It sounds... -
ARCHIVED Negative Biopsy
ravenwoodglass replied to jrose's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Welcome to the boards. Yes you should do the diet strictly for a while to see if it helps. The low carb diet you have been on could have resulted in a low positive, although some of us will show negative even at the end stages and eating a full gluten diet on blood testing. Biopsies are hit and miss and not all doctors recognize the changes that are a... -
ARCHIVED Update And Venting
ravenwoodglass replied to SunnyDyRain's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I am glad you had a good safe cruise but it is too bad you are still struggling with issues. The only thing that struck me was the note in your sig that said you are lactose intolerant. Could you be casien intolerant and not lactose? Casien is in a lot of 'nondairy' items and in many dairy replacement cheeses and that sort of thing. Casien intolerance... -
ARCHIVED I Am In Agonizing Pain
ravenwoodglass replied to Ursa Major's topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
Hopefully when the tooth is out the pain will be resolved. Having a hot tooth is no fun, I didn't even last 24 hours with the last one I had and you must be in so much pain right now having dealt with it for a few days now. Although your first concern is the pain I do hope the med he gave you was safe and that everything goes smoothly. -
ARCHIVED Does Dh Always Equal Celiac?
ravenwoodglass replied to GravStars's topic in Dermatitis Herpetiformis
I had extremely bad DH and this was true for me. The outbreaks stopped and the lesions began healing within a week of stopping gluten injestion. It did however take a very very small amount to activate them again. For the first 2 years gluten-free they were the first thing that would appear when I was glutened or got topical exposure. After the first... -
ARCHIVED Does Dh Always Equal Celiac?
ravenwoodglass replied to GravStars's topic in Dermatitis Herpetiformis
In this country the definition of 'celiac' disease is total villi destruction. Many doctors do not recognize the systemic nature of the condition, in my opinion due to overspecialization and tunnel vision by doctors as far as other systems outside their specialization are concerned. Even celiac knowledgeable GI doctors often don't know that celiac can impact... -
ARCHIVED New Feller On Board
ravenwoodglass replied to joopie's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Hi and welcome. Those are positive results as far as I can see. You have come to a good place for info and support and do feel free to ask any questions you need to. Do feel free to just vent also, we have all been through it and do understand the anger and frustration. There is a lot to be learned at first but you will get the hang of it. I hope you...
