  1. Thanks for the link, and we celiacs are IMHO at much greater risk of this happening because most of us have horrible teeth. The literature warns against taking the drug if you need extensive dental work for this very reason. They often rush to prescribe thing like this and drugs like many of the diabetes drugs when things can be handled by diet and excercise...
  2. That is a possibility. I had a hard time after mine cause my body really does not like Versed and my doctor gave me a great deal of it, more than he should have in my opinion since there was no anesthesiologist there. I counted at least 8 'pushes' and still wasn't out. He told me I was on the next visit though, till I repeated every word he had said. ...
  3. There is another possibility with the chili also. Many of these places give absolutely no education as to the dangers of CC or any other health related issue. It is up to management to teach them and managers can work for months before they are required to attend a health dept seminar, if they are required at all. Depends on the state. As someone who...
  4. Ideally you should have one now that you have been diagnosed along with panels to check you vitamin and mineral levels. If your regular doctor is reluctant to order the test you may want to ask your OB/GYN sometimes with this type of issue they can be more helpful. If you are low and your doctor prescribes one of the new meds PLEASE make sure you get the...
  5. Welcome to the board. I think perhaps the person you spoke to was talking about what would happen if you don't go gluten free. If you need to be gluten free and you are not then yes the antibody effect can attack pretty much any organ in your body. The best reason there is for getting yourself gluten-free. There are many of us who it took decades to...
  6. First make sure that you test everyone in the family now. If you and/or their father are positive then test all your brothers, sisters, parents etc. Your DD wasn't asymptomatic, GERD is often present with celiac and I agree with the doctors that with a positive blood on her sister there is no need to put her through and endo. As to college, my DD's college...
  7. I can almost feel the sigh in the last line. You should give yourself credit for being as safe as you can be. It is always better to err on the side of caution and you are helping yourself immensely by doing so. Soon you will be feeling better and all this hassle will be second nature.
  8. ((((((((hugs)))))))) I hope you feel better soon. The report he gave you has strong indications of celiac but many doctors will not diagnose unless the villi are totally destroyed. It sounds like you have a smart GI who recognizes the celiac changes, I would agree with him that you should get on the diet. You also should not stop the diet if the biopsies...
  9. What they are saying in the area that I bolded is that the changes they have seen are suggestive of celiac and when they refer to clinical correlation I believe they are saying that it is likely the cause if your symptoms are suggestive of celiac. It does not appear that your doctor did any biopsies of the small intestine villi but concentrated on your duodenum...
  10. It isn't so much what you should eat more of as what you should eat less of. I found the easiest way to get the hang of how to eat was to get a book on eating with diabetes and a book that will tell you about glycemic indexes. You will want to cut down on the amount of carbs you get from baked goods and sweets. Did your doctor give you a script for...
  11. If it is just plain floss with no flavors you should be fine. If it is flavored I would be tempted to just go buy one that is unflavored. Glad you are improving
  12. If I had waited for a diagnosis based on blood work I would be dead now. Without positive bloods the endo was never considered even though I could have been a poster child for celiac. If I relied on gene testing I would by now be in a wheel chair still pumped full of drugs since my celiac gene is considered one for RA here. Unfortunately there is a great...
  13. It sounds like you have been through the same hell as the rest of us. I had an adverse reaction to the antibiotic Levaquin a while back and it messed my digestion up really badly. Taking digestive enzymes helped a great deal. If you haven't already tried them perhaps they might help heal things a bit.
  14. "She even said that if I wanted to know if one of these was contained in the fragrance that I would need to have a doctor write a letter to request research of the product." If I got a response like this from a company then I wouldn't ever touch another product they make. I am not positive but I think Burts Bees make a hair get that is safe.
  15. Yea I agree get started with the B12 as soon as you can. I started having celiac related nerve issues at about 5 and had progressed to some very serious issues by the time I was diagnosed decades later. I have been amazed at how much nerve recovery I have had. The tingling and such stopped within a couple months of starting the B12 for me. The other issues...
  16. I have to add that rarely do I find threads that bring me tears, but this one does. It is so good to know that I wasn't alone in my struggles but heartbreaking to know that so many others have suffered the same.
  17. "We just had an endoscopy (GDE) performed last week, and, although the doctor performing the procedure told us that her visuals showed decreased folds in his upper duodenum, the biopsy results were negative" The biospy may have been negative but the decrease in the folds is also indicative of celiac. From the New England Journal of Medicine- "Endoscopic...
  18. I hope the diet helps, I have the feeling it will. I hope your Mom is also doing the diet as strictly as possible. The neuro symptoms of celiac are very similiar to MS, I was thought to have MS myself for a time. I have seen a fantastic resolution of the symptoms they thought were MS and I hope your Mom has the same results. To the original poster,...
  19. These appear to be an item that we could only get with a script from a doctor, am I correct about that? Also since if they are considered a prescription item they would not fall under the labeling guidelines for gluten, do you know what the food starch is that is in it? Most likely not gluten but I am curious.
  20. I don't know if my experience is anything like yours but I will relate it just in case. I still had some issues even after having a great recovery with the diet. It turned out to be a sensitivily to soy and casien. I never realized how much soy I was consuming, I virtually replaced the gluten with soy. It is in an awful lot of gluten-free stuff. Once...
  21. I also had problems with bladder and bladder control. The peeing constantly and occasional blood turned out to be kidney related due to my bodies reaction to the toxin, gluten. The control issues were related to my nerve damage and started when I was a child about the time I lost reflexes in my legs. I would have accidents even as a child when playing...
  22. I like many others here could have written your post. I was severely impacted neurologically and have also was labeled a psych case at a very young age when celiac induced depression caused me to commit suicide as a child. I had severe DH for 5 years before the depression hit me like a club one summer. I was told the DH was poison ivy that had gotten into...
  23. This actually was the case for me. With the skin prick tests they tested me for about 100 substances and foods before the allegist put me on the elimination diet. In my case the scratch tests were almost worthless because out of all of the items tested the only thing I didn't show allergic reactions to was beech trees. Try to make a meal out of those....
  24. She glutened you intentionally and now she says the reaction is all in your head!!!!!!! I am so sorry you are having to deal with this. I would not eat anything she put in front of me for a very long time. I don't myself see it as something that was done out of any kind of love but more as someone trying to prove to you that you are wrong about a condition...
  25. I am an artist by nature but not by profession. I love working with stained glass and painting and also enjoy making jewelry and working with textiles. Right now most of my artistic impulses are involved in my gardens and also with my writing. I am working on a childrens book about celiac, don't know if I will ever get it out there anywhere. I am also...
