  1. There is one thing more that should be mentioned in additon to the advice already given.....and I really hate to even say it but...... Is that your bird? If it is who feeds him and cleans up the cage? You may be getting enough airborne gluten flying around when taking care of your friend to keep you sick. I fought to keep my parrot for a long time after...
  2. NEVER I get sick enough from just a microgram of CC and my gluten challenge that my GI ordered almost killed me. No way, no how, not for all the money in the world.
  3. I eat their products all the time and have had no problems gluten wise. I love their pnut butter and chocolate chip granola bars also. Diverticulosis might cause some pain but generally it will be on the left side in the descending colon. That said it is not uncommon for those of us who have had problems with C to have the diverticuli spread out throughout...
  4. One other thing you may want to do is to look for an allergist who will guide you through the elimination process. They will do standard testing for food allergies and then formulate a plan for the elimination diet. Mine started me out with 5 foods and then we added one new food in pure form a week. It is a very time consuming process but in my case it...
  5. It may be time to just give the diet a try. Some of us are very difficult to diagnose, in part because up to 30% of us will show negative on blood work and often once they see a negative blood test the subject is closed in the doctors mind. Your doctor should have no problem ordering the celiac panel, in fact you shouldn't even need an appointment he can...
  6. I would drop the cleansing preperation and just go with the fruits and veggies and whole natural gluten free foods. Sweet potatoes are an old chinese remedy for both C and D. You may want to try those for a couple of days.
  7. I was diagnosed with fibro a few years before celiac. Just like with my arthritis I have been rather lucky and it receeded within a few months of being gluten free. The only time I have fibro issues now is if I eat food my body doesn't like. When it flared up with some other symptoms last year it prompted me to test with enterolab and when I removed the...
  8. Have you considered having stool antibody testing? That may be helpful for you. Enterolab cannot diagnose celiac but they can tell you if you are forming antibodies to gluten, soy, casien, yeast and they can also measure the amount of fat to give you an idea if you are suffering malabsorption. With the number of body systems effected by the antibody...
  9. My first thought would be what detergent and fabric softener are you using? I usually got problems like this from an unsafe detergent. Those areas are in constant contact with the fabric which would have an offending allergen right tight on skin. Have you tried using a detergent like Arm and Hammer Free and Clear to see if the problem resolves?
  10. There are a couple of companies that label well for gluten ingredients in toiletries. Suave is a good one and also Dove. Giovanni makes some great hair care products but I haven't checked on their skin line. Hopefully someone who uses Shave Creams will post about those. One of the most risky things in these products is vitamin E which is usually derived...
  11. Thanks for posting this. After doing a bit of looking on line I don't think I want this stuff in my food. I appretiate the heads up on the research.
  12. So it sounds like your doctor think everything is being caused by the Aciphex. However there was a reason you were on it for a year. I am assuming that you were having stomach pain before you began taking it. Did your doctor do a celiac panel? Please don't feel that you definately don't have celiac because of these findings. It will be great if the issues...
  13. If you are still responding positive while on the diet you may have some gluten sneaking in somewhere. Did your doctor tell you to check all your meds, OTC and script and all supplements? Have you eliminated gluten from your toiletries and all makeup? Are you drinking distilled grain alcohols? For some of us they are safe but for some they are not. The...
  14. According to the NIH it is an issue. Excerpt from an NIH article on the attempt to make a 'gluten free' wheat- "Genetic digestive disease wreaks havoc Celiac disease is a genetic digestive disease and autoimmune disorder that damages the small intestine and interferes with absorption of nutrients from food. Symptoms range from cramps and diarrhea...
  15. I wouldn't touch any of the above mentioned. I have had barley grass in a beverage and gotten very sick from it. Perhaps it wouldn't bother others but I if I was still having symptoms I would stop it for a bit and then if needed challenge with it later. It can be easier to heal if you eliminate all possibilities at first and then after you heal you can...
  16. Thanks for posting the link. Now if they would only add barley to the list (sigh)
  17. You may want to take things one step at a time. First I would do a couple of months on a strict gluten-free diet, checking everything that you injest or put on topically. The testing for celiac can have as much as a 30% false negative rate. I am one who was almost killed by the doctors relying on blood tests for diagnosis. Interestingly both of my children...
  18. We can't just peel away the gluten. Just like we can't take the toppings off a pizza and then eat them we can't do the same with a bun or a coating of gluten. The hot dog itself may have been okay, noone can say for sure without knowing the brand. Seizures with gluten do happen, I am one of the ones who also gets them. Unfortunately many neuros don't...
  19. There are up to 30% of celiacs who will show up negative on the blood panel. The best diagnostic IMHO is the response to the diet. You do not need a doctors permission to be gluten free and if it does the trick then you don't need all the other tests. The only testing that being gluten free will interfere with is the testing for celiac itself. The biopsies...
  20. I am the one (or one of the ones) here that was undiagnosed for 45 years. Although I was very close to death by the time I was diagnosed I still did not yet have cancer. While it does happen it is not something that is going to help you to worry about. Please do not get too upset with yourself or your little one. He will be fine. You may want to consider...
  21. The swelling and the drowsy feeling makes me wonder if maybe you might have the same thing going on that I did a year or so ago. For me it turned out to be a combination of an allergy and intolerance to soy. I had virtually replaced gluten in my diet with soy, didn't do it on purpose it just happened. After lots of tests, some with really adverse reactions...
  22. You need to find a gluten free food for your cat. Your cat eats then he washes himself. That deposits gluten residue on his coat. You then pet him and rub your eyes or put something in your mouth and you have been glutened. The idea that we can not be glutened by things like shampoo and lotions etc is so false. You may not absorb gluten through intact...
  23. It does sound like DH, I was covered in the blisters like you throughout my childhood so I sure can sympathize. My derms were clueless also. They told my Mom that I had poison ivy in my bloodstream. It can take a long time for those antibodies to leave the skin and as mentioned you have to be very strict. Make sure you check all topicals, lotions, shampoos...
  24. What kind of dressing are you using on your salads? While many of us are fine with gluten grain distilled vinagers many of us are not. You may want to experiment with salads with a for sure, you made it dressing using wine vinegar instead of the distilled vinagers that are in many prepared dressings. Also many if not most use soy oil now in the premade...
  25. I can understand your anxiety about the trip. One thing that you might want to consider in addition to the great advice you have already gotten is taking some Immodium right before the concert. IF you don't have problems with C. The gluten reaction is often delayed so it isn't just what you ate that day but what you have eaten for a couple of days before...
