  1. It can take a bit of time to heal, and it also takes time to learn what is really gluten-free and what isn't. To heal quickest it is best to consume mostly whole unprocessed foods. During this time you can research a bit to know what is really safe for you to eat. Have you checked all supplements and meds? How about your shampoos and lotions etc. ...
  2. I have multiple tatoos, my last one I was really sick when I got it and it didn't make me any worse. The only time I had any kind of reaction was when an artist had a puppy in the room as I am allergic to dogs. I would check the ingredients of any ink, start small and in an easily covered spot, remember they should be considered permanent, and make sure...
  3. ((((((((((Hugs))))))))) Don't beat yourself up over it, your body is going to do that for you. I hope your reaction isn't too bad and that it passes soon.
  4. Bear in mind also that gluten for many of us is a neurotoxin, so you may feel a bit more moody when you first stop consuming. This will pass. Be sure to read as much as you can here, the diet is tricky at first because there are so many things to consider other than just food. When you first go gluten-free it is a good idea to try to go with whole...
  5. Don't trust your doctor or pharmacist to know if something is gluten free. Get the number and call the company yourself, this applies to both OTC and script drugs. If you take generics make that call at each refill as they can change inert ingredients at will. There are no labeling regs for supplements and vitamins so even if it says gluten free read those...
  6. Actually the reaction to your scalp does sound like a DH reaction. There are some good gluten-free shampoos but it can be really hard to tell by the labels on some brands. Dove will clearly label gluten sources such as wheat and oat as will Suave. For the Organics Giovanni makes some great products for the hair but I haven't checked their skin care line...
  7. This is their stance on gluten but I couldn't find anything on soy. "Is Barilla Sauce gluten free? Barilla does not add gluten to the raw materials used to make our sauces. At the present time, however, we cannot guarantee that our sauces are absolutely gluten free." http://www.barillaus.com/Home/Pages/faq.aspx If they don't have a phone number...
  8. I've used Hemp Shake powder and also just added hemp milk to smoothies. I found the powder was too thick for my taste and the milk is high in protein and other good stuff so that worked better for me.
  9. There are a couple that I use one is Crofter's Organic and the other is the Polaner All Fruit and that one is marked gluten-free (in very tiny letters). It is so hard to find jams and jellies that don't have all kinds of stuff in them. I avoid high fructose corn syrup in addition to gluten and had a real hard time finding one that was just fruit.
  10. Yes you should be skeptical. Up to 30% or celiacs will show up negative on blood work. If I had relied on blood work I would be dead now. I had countless panels done with negative results but within a short time of eliminating gluten many of my problems were history or at the minimum in remission. Those were not minor issues as you can see by my signature...
  11. I had all those problems and more, for me the treatment was the diet, followed very strictly and the addition of some good gluten free vitamins, the most important of those being sublingual B12. Royal Jelly from bees was also helpful for me with energy and hair. How long have you been gluten free? With your hair loss have you checked your shampoos and...
  12. Any postive on the blood test is positive. Even one degree into the positive levels is a positive as was seen in my family. Even if the damage is minor when you have your endo you still need to be on the diet. With neuro symptoms thrown in there and the amount of time you have been ill you may not yet have enough damage on endo to have the doctors clearly...

    ARCHIVED Second Gi Appt

It sounds like he is a good doctor and I am glad it was a good experience for you. Please make sure he is up to date on the 7 genes that have recently been linked to celiac other than just the DQ2 or DQ8. The reason I say this is because I had one child who was gene tested and the doc told her that her celiac diagnosis was false because she doesnt have...
  14. It sounds like you have a good GI that at least knows that the scalloping is related. Yay!!! I am assuming you are back on the diet now that the biopsy is done with. Welcome to the boards and the world of gluten free healing. I hope you are feeling much better soon. Ask any question here you need to and feel free to vent when needed, you found the right...
  15. I do hope you get a positive diagnosis for this young mans sake if that is the only way to get his father to comply. He reads just like my son and I would give anything to have had the knowledge to try the diet when he was 12. Even just one more inch of height would make a difference for him. I have a wonderful, sensitive, intelligent and handsome young...
  16. I do hope that wasn't all you ate. The tiredness was awful for me also during the first month or so off gluten, as it was when I was on it. It does take time to heal. I was often too tired to cook and do dishes but there are some things that take seconds to make and can give you a good gluten-free meal with little effort. If you eat chicken a chicken...
  17. This has been the case for my family. I can't remember the last time I got even a cold and the same applies for other family members. Before diagnosis we would seem to always have a cold or bronchitits or some sort of virus of some kind. The reason for the autoimmune diseases is because our immune systems are in hyperdrive before diagnosis. I don't...
  18. Yea I guess acid reflux could cause those findings, if the reason for the acid reflux is gluten. Many doctors would rather we take meds for reflux at least your advised you do the diet, at least your doctor advised you to try the diet for relief. That reflux will most likely be a thing of the past soon. If you haven't already you may want to exclude...
  19. I was thinking about this last night and I am wondering if the line at the bottom may have been an error, perhaps by the transcriptionist. The reading of the biopsy clearly shows impact which makes me wonder if there might have been an error in the transcription. Your doctor obviously recognizes that it was a positive biopsy, have you asked him to explain...
  20. If anything stresses the need for us to consume more whole foods and less processed stuff this thread does. Personally I would just like clear ingredient labels stating what the ingredients are derived from with less chemical speak. I am very sensitive and don't want barley, for example, hidden in flavors just because it 'tests' out in the finished product...
  21. I agree with the others, the doctor has much more sense than the pathologist. He is a keeper and I fully agree that you need to be on the diet as that was not a negative biopsy report.
  22. I hope that she heals quickly. She will be in my thoughts and prayers.
  23. I don't think the mushrooms would be absorb it and then thus become a gluten risk but the gills under the caps and the outside of the mushroom would have a high risk of CC in my opinion. I wouldn't eat them.
  24. You would be better off getting a knowledgeable dermatologist to do a biopsy. There is a good chance that the endoscopic biopsy will come back normal. This will not mean you are in the clear celiac wise. With a positive blood test you have had your diagnosis. If you have DH you are celiac no matter what the endo says.
