ARCHIVED Foods To Be Avoided?
ravenwoodglass replied to mandigirl1's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
This angers me too but not as much as the companies that don't put that on their label. -
ARCHIVED Local Lab Results
ravenwoodglass replied to truthsearcher's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Sometimes the best way to tell if you have a problem with gluten is to remove it totally from your diet for at least a couple of months and then do a challenge- add it back in and see if you react. The blood tests are not foolproof and going by just a negative blood test can seriously delay your diagnosis. It delayed mine by many very painful and disabling... -
ARCHIVED Astro Yogurt - Fruit On The Bottom

I very well may not have been on a Google search I found this, does the one your using come from Canada? I will also check for US specific answer. Open Original Shared Link "This is an update for your gluten-free products list regarding Parmalat's Astro yogurts. Begin forwarded message: From: consumerresponse <consumerresponse@parmalat.ca... -
ARCHIVED Enterolab Results - 11 Units. Do I Really Have Gluten Sensitivit?
ravenwoodglass replied to aeshlea's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Yes the diet will make a difference, you may be surprised how many things will improve and even more importantly how many things you can help to prevent from becoming gluten free. Waiting until your numbers are higher risks the development of problems that may not resolve completely gluten free. These include impact on the nervous system, thyroid, bones... -
ARCHIVED How Long Till Your Dh Completely Cleared Up?
ravenwoodglass replied to ItchyMeredith's topic in Dermatitis Herpetiformis
I stopped getting new blisters within a couple of months. I was however VERY sensitive to CC for about 2 years after that. A outbreak of blisters would be my first indication of CC or a glutening and would occur within hours of contact or injestion. Now 5 years into the diet and it takes a lot to get those deposits reformed. They now don't show up till... -
ARCHIVED My Result From Entrolab
ravenwoodglass replied to Linda56's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Linda, Could you be experiencing gluten ataxia? Have they ever done any MRI's in the search to try and find the reason for your balance problems? Gluten Ataxia causes the formation of things called bright spots that are visible on an MRI, but many neuros don't know that in the US. I had gotten to the point where I could barely walk without canes or walls... -
Some people with DH have stomach problems and some don't. Also you have to remember that a lot of us grew up thinking the occasional upset stomach was normal, if we had C we weren't getting enough fiber, if we had D we were under stress or depressed. We expect to have heartburn and stuff and many don't look at it as a problem until lots of other stuff starts...

ARCHIVED Anyone React Less To Cooked Gluten?
ravenwoodglass replied to rainabear's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Sometimes it just takes a bit, the adverse effects that your Mom is getting will hopefully encourage her to be compliant. I know that is how it worked with the others in my family. I was also a big, big bread eater before diagnosis. I could sit and finish off a whole loaf of fresh Italian bread and cheese in one sitting no problem. I gave it up all together... -

ARCHIVED Just Found Out About This After 10 Years Of Pain
ravenwoodglass replied to a topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Will be sending positive thoughts and prayers your way. I hope this resolves quickly and that you don't give up on the diet just because of a negative test result. I trusted my tests results for years, and for years they were wrong. And I got sicker and sicker. Obviously I am a firm believer in dietary response but right now that issue is really secondary... -
ARCHIVED Emotional Topsy-turvy & Fatigue

PM means private message, if you look at the top of the page there is a spot that says New Messages far on the right. Also if you want to send one to someone if you click on the tab beside thier avatar you will get a pull down menu that has a tab to PM someone. There are a lot of things you can do in a slow cooker, stew is one of my favorites but there... -
ARCHIVED Emotional Topsy-turvy & Fatigue
ravenwoodglass replied to clover's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
"its been too hard to avoid eating out, as Im in graduate school and REALLY busy." If there is any way you can eat out less that might help. Do you have a slow cooker so you can throw some stuff in there and just let it cook? Something we do is on days when we do have time we cook big batches of stuff that freezes well so it can just be pulled out and... -
ARCHIVED $1,000 Worth Of Tests
ravenwoodglass replied to jasonD2's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
If you have been gluten free for only a week you may want to consider giving the diet a couple of months before any more testing. It does take some time to heal. You may find all your problems have resolved and no more testing is needed. -
ARCHIVED Just Found Out About This After 10 Years Of Pain
ravenwoodglass replied to a topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I hope things get better for you soon. I am glad to hear you are going on the diet as it may help a bit. I have only had one attack of Diverticulitis since I was diagnosed and it really is hell to go through and it sounds like your attack was much worse than mine. I am going to make a suggestion here, you may want to go with as pure and natural foods as... -
I also have had DH show up in unusual places. As a child my arms, legs and face were covered with it and it was thought I somehow kept getting into poison ivy - 12 months out of the year. As an adult it generally showed up on my face, scalp, neck and back but I have had outbreaks on my fingers, palms of my hands and bottom of my feet. Bottom of the feet...

ARCHIVED Can A Child Have Dh Without Having Celiac Disease?
ravenwoodglass replied to a topic in Dermatitis Herpetiformis
I don't have a lot to add to the good advice you have gotten already except that one of the gluten intolerant gene's (mine coincidentally ) is associated with excema in countries that do not consume large amounts of gluten foods. My DD had this show up as one of the first indications of celiac when she was still an infant. Her celiac panels, and the others... -
ARCHIVED I Need A Gluten Free Raw Chicken...
ravenwoodglass replied to FootballFanatic's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I just look for an organic chicken with nothing added. The only time I have ever had a problem with totally raw meats is when I used to shop at a small local market. I had a devil of a time figuring out what was going on until I walked back into the meat cutting area one day to talk to the butcher and found them standing there eating their lunches off of... -
ARCHIVED Poster Child Waiting For Results
ravenwoodglass replied to BellaRose's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
DON"T TRUST THOSE TESTS!!!!!!! Now that you have had the testing and been pronounced 'not celiac' by your doctor do the diet. I can not stress that enough. If you do have Chrons or IBD the gluten free diet is not going to effect the results of any of the other tests they are going to do other than the ones specifically looking for celiac (endo biopsy... -
ARCHIVED Negative Celiac Panel Results, But Still Can Have Celiac?
ravenwoodglass replied to mama2two's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I am one of the 30% who don't show up on blood work. No one ever told me about the diet. I was very sick for 15 years, the last five years before I was diagnosed were very costly. We averaged 17 thousand dollars a year for my copays on drugs, doctor visits and testing. But the cost on my health was far more. Even after my Allergist diagnosed me and I... -
ARCHIVED Celiac's And Seizures
ravenwoodglass replied to Tigertail's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
"My doctor swears that the seizure was not caused by celiac. He claims that if it was caused by celiac there would be some evidence (calcifications?) that show up on the MRIs." I don't know if that is true in all cases but it was in mine. What is found is called UBO's. Unidentified Bright Objects they look similar to the damage that comes with MS but... -

ARCHIVED Total Serum Iga
ravenwoodglass replied to Carol the Dabbler's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
You'd be surprised how many doctors don't check. At least that was the way it was when I was going through my 15 year diagnosis process. Many still need to be told what tests to order even for a celiac panel. It does seem to be improving though. I feel like getting a bumper sticker that says 'It is Celiac Disease Awareness Month - What did Your Doctor... -

ARCHIVED Primary Adenal Insufficiency And Celiac
ravenwoodglass posted a topic in Related Issues & Disorders
I came across this article and found it interesting. I have been wondering about the condition of my adrenal system for awhile and have noticed that others have issues with that too. Stress from being sick for years is apparently perhaps not the only cause. I tried to provide a link but that didn't work so I pasted the article. It comes from Medscape...
