ARCHIVED What Do You Feed A Kid For A Gluten Free Trial
ravenwoodglass replied to Chako's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
My DS had the gagging problem also, for 3 years about the only food he would eat without doing this was pasta. He is also mildly autistic so I can symptathize with the difficulty you are facing with this. We didn't know about the celiac till he was 19 but when he was small what I would do is puree veggies and mix them in with the meat sauce for the pasta... -

I put a cup of quiona and about 2 cups of water in a small pan, bring it to a boil then simmer for about 10 to 15 minutes. There is very little water left and the quiona will be tender and the germ will be visable as a white ring. Some quionas need rinsing before cooking but I use Ancient Harvest and except for a quick rinse when I put the water in I don... -

I always let my teens defy me with their clothes and hair, I think it helped keep them from defying me in less obvious ways like drugs or immorality. Of course I let them know what I think of bright red hair and pj bottoms as outdoor wear. In their opinions on a much too regular basis -
ARCHIVED Antigladin Iga

IMHO you have a good doctor there. Personally I would get on the diet and stay on it. I am sure your doctor was going by more than just your blood test to give you your diagnosis. Many have had to fight to just get the tests. The truest test of gluten intolerance is your response to the diet, does it relieve the problems you are having. I tested negative... -
ARCHIVED Curious About Food Preferences
ravenwoodglass replied to queenofhearts's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
You need to eat what you are comfortable with. If you don't like meat you don't need to eat it. Just make sure your diet is well balanced and that you don't have any other intolerances. I was recently diagnosed diabetic and got a book called "Defeating Diabetes" by B. Davis RD and T. Barnard MD. While it is not celiac specific it does give good info... -
ARCHIVED Potato Salad
ravenwoodglass replied to deena647's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I love the Heinz company. Even their distilled vinager is safe it is derived from corn. They use it in their mustards and ketchup so those are safe also. They do make a malt vinager though that we of course need to avoid. I need to make a correction to this -on the web site they say the mustard may have gluten in the flavorings. The rep I talked... -

I wondered about that also, that's why I did back, upper arms and small of the back, no long stemed roses to stretch out on my boobs. I get another for every major life event. Only four so far but the last one was huge covers the entire small of my back, it's a celtic symbol for the affirmation of life. They are addicting for some of us. -
ARCHIVED Twin Two Year Olds Just Diagnosed With Celiac
ravenwoodglass replied to twinmommy's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I am just curious why are you doing the SCD with your two year olds? Have you talked to a dietian about how to deal with the gluten intolerance, eliminating gluten does not mean they have to limit carbs and at their age they need them for energy and growth. You might want to try upping their fruit and veggie intake to increase the fiber. -
ARCHIVED How To Deal In A Non-gluten-free Household?
ravenwoodglass replied to tracii's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I would sit everyone down and say very nicely that unless they start to respect my needs for safe one person gluten free living the entire household will be gluten free. And if I got sick again from something they did that I would donate all gluten foods in the house to a food pantry and none would ever come in again. Then I would follow through. -

I would try to do with him what I would do with an adult, give him fruit, veggies, unprocessed meats and rice. Delmonte fruits and veggies are all gluten-free, the snack cups are handy and quick but get them with no syrup added. Kinnikinnick makes some excellent gluten-free baked goods, they have a web site although I get the stuff from my health food store... -

Thanks, I'll just call the company to be sure. While y'all were dying your hair funny colors I was getting tatoos. In the 70's if you were female and had a tatoo you were either a sailor or a prostitute. Boy have times changed. Ah to be young now they have so much more fun options in clothes and hair. -

Thanks for the heads up on the Prell, I will have to get some tommorrow. I used a semipermanent color before Xmas expecting it to go away, NSL. I hate roots but don't want to color again or cut, Prell is worth a try. I am assuming it is gluten-free? -
ARCHIVED Potassium.
ravenwoodglass replied to MySuicidalTurtle's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I would not touch this again if it was me. The black out sensation sounds like your blood pressure is bottoming out. I would bring this up with your doctor also and perhaps see if he might want to have you skin tested in case this is an allergic reaction. Allergenic reactions can go from annoying to life threatning very suddenly so please don't ignore... -
ARCHIVED Celiac V Gluten Intolerance
ravenwoodglass replied to Kaycee's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Hi Cathy, I was a late diagnosis as well. It does take a while to recover. While I felt great just having the tummy troubles gone it was many, many more months for me to be pain free and energetic. One thing that helped a lot was sublingual B12 tablets, gluten free of course. You can just add them to the daily gluten-free multiple you already take. ... -
ARCHIVED Potassium.
ravenwoodglass replied to MySuicidalTurtle's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
How much sugar is in coconut water? I know the meat is very high. You may be getting a blood sugar spike. If your worried about the potassium you could ask your doctor to call in a lab slip so you can check. -
ARCHIVED Celiac And Liver Health
ravenwoodglass replied to Green12's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
My twin died as a result of autoimmune cirrosis. The doctor said that his liver had been deterioriating since birth. He started drinking at a young age and by 15 his liver was gone. I am not saying this to scare you and only recently found out about a possible connection between celiac and liver disease myself but have not researched it a lot. Please... -
Have you checked with your pharmacist to be absolutely positive that the meds you are taking are gluten-free? Your doctor will not know the answer to this. Many 'tummy' meds are full of gluten, they give instant relief but insure you'll need them again in a couple of days. Make sure you pharmacist calls each company to make sure and also check all OTC...

Just wanted to add what finally worked for me, although it of course does not apply to all. I got a great deal of joint and muscle pain relief when I went gluten-free but was never totally pain free until I realized I was also reacting to the nightshade family. This was discovered after I realized every time my DS came home for a weekend I would make chili...

ARCHIVED A Tooth Question
ravenwoodglass replied to Warrior Woman's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I could be wrong but from what I know of teeth formation the enamel is formed long before the teeth surface. Have you changed toothpastes recently? Another possibility is that you are seeing a change in the plaque development, the gluten response starts in the mucous membranes and some of us have a strong response in our salivary glands. The gluten-free... -
I used to get them a lot, I haven't had an episode since I went gluten-free. The only thing that helped was drinking hot water to relax the spasms. I had not realized how long it had been since I had them till I saw this post! They used to be at least every other day.

ARCHIVED Celiac And Liver Health
ravenwoodglass replied to Green12's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
I would go with the beet juice if you really feel you need to do this. However do it very cautiously. Start out with only about 2 oz of beet juice at the most and mix it with another juice. If the drink makes you nauseous you used too much beet juice. The liver cleansers take the toxins out of the liver and throw them into the bloodstream, this can have... -
ARCHIVED Anyone Have A Good Explanation For Celiac
ravenwoodglass replied to JerryK's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I can not answer for all of course but for me gluten did two things that caused me to gain weight. First I was addicted to it. I would consume enormous amounts of food and never feel full. My DS and I beleve the constant hunger also comes from the body sending signals because although it is getting calories I was not absorbing much. I also had a great... -
ARCHIVED Question About Potty Training And Possible Celiac Stools
ravenwoodglass replied to Chako's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
What I would do for the little guy is get him on the diet today. You may see such an obvious difference that you decide not to put him through the trauma of the procedures. -
ARCHIVED Difference Between Celiac And Crohns?
ravenwoodglass replied to Chako's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I can only speak for myself and I was real, real ill before it was found but I did have mucous in my stool at times but a colonoscopy revealed no inflammation in the large intestine. Please make sure they do lots of biopsies during the scope and make sure you get copies of all reports. They sometimes differ from what people are told. -
ARCHIVED Hey Celiac! Thanks!

That must have felt great. I am so glad your fears were unfounded.
