ARCHIVED Am I Re-Glutening Myself With Something Every Day Or Is This A Super Long Glutening?
ravenwoodglass replied to aquaholical's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Have you talked to the doctor about the meds you are taking for Lyme? I wonder if one or more of those meds might be the issue rather than gluten or another intolerance. -
ARCHIVED I Want To Try An Elimination Diet
ravenwoodglass replied to kirdyq's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I think you may find this post helpful for giving the gluten-free diet a good shot. If it has been awhile since you had the blood testing done you may want to have that redone before you begin. Just because a past test was negative doesn't mean one done now will be. It can be important when we have children to get diagnosed since if you are celiac they need... -
I was in tears by the time I finished reading your post. I am so happy for you that you were able to overcome and have a wonderful day. Even after all these years I still have so little endurance. But heck if you can find a way to do a long day like that maybe I can find a way to go to the hydro-boat races in a couple of weeks or even out to dinner. I'm in...

ARCHIVED Got Glutened-Need Help
ravenwoodglass replied to gluten-is-kryptonite's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
While there are things that can help the symptoms, as others have mentioned, I don't think there is any way to speed those antibodies away. I'm so sorry you are feeling so bad right now, it will pass but the time it takes to pass varies. I find Cream of Buckwheat cereal to be soothing to my tummy and the Pepto Bismal liquid helps my stomach pain. For me it... -
ARCHIVED Coconut Milk And Coconut Milk Beverage
ravenwoodglass replied to tctwhite's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Can't say for sure but I would imagine coconut milk would be just coconut milk whereas coconut milk beverage would have other ingredients added. -

It's too bad you hate needles since the B12 shot might have really helped you feel a lot better. Do get some sublingual B12, it is important that it be sublingual as that way it will bypass your damaged gut and go right into your bloodstream through the mucous membranes. Pick some up as soon as you can. Low B12 and ferritin are often found in us and eventually... -
ARCHIVED Something Is Wrong...
ravenwoodglass replied to itsnikki's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Don't go gluten free or gluten light until after you have had celiac testing done. You can call your GP and ask them to run the complete panel. Most doctors will refer you to a GI for an endo if you are positive on the blood panel but some doctors, if the results are highly positive, will diagnose based on that. There are false negatives though so do give... -
ARCHIVED Is It Possible To Get Dh In Genital Area?
ravenwoodglass replied to glutenmommy's topic in Dermatitis Herpetiformis
If a herpes test comes back positive it is herpes. You can have both herpes and DH. -
ARCHIVED My Father Was Just Diagnosed With Celiac...
ravenwoodglass replied to raininblack's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Steak and potatos are gluten free, baked chicken is gluten free, eggs and bacon are gluten free, stews and soups are gluten free when homemade, if you take some of the potatoes from the stew and cut them real small they will cook down and thicken it. Fish is gluten free, shrimp is gluten free. Some Progresso soups are gluten free. Name brand Chex has many... -
ARCHIVED It's Only 9:30...and I've Already Run To The Bathroom 3 Times!
ravenwoodglass replied to luvrdeo's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
It may not be the case for you but I feel awful for 2 or 3 days before the D hits when I get glutened. For some folks the time frame before D hits can be up to a week. Others will get D the same day. It can be helpful to keep a food and symptom log for a while to see if you have other intolerances or to establish how long before the D hits your body when... -
ARCHIVED My Father Was Just Diagnosed With Celiac...
ravenwoodglass replied to raininblack's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
You can't eat just chicken, rice, lettuce and bananas and be healthy. All vegs are gluten free as are fruit in their natural state. Frozen veggies are cheap if you are afraid of waste with fresh ones. Thai Kitchen rice noodles are safe, cheap and make a great inexpensive quick meal with some veggies and perhaps some beans thrown in. They are also good with... -

ARCHIVED Vitamins Not Digesting
ravenwoodglass replied to Newbee's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
There are some doctors that once we are diagnosed will then consider any issues to be related to celiac. I agree it might be time to consider a different doctor. This is especially the case if you have been strict with your diet. -
ARCHIVED Vitamins Not Digesting
ravenwoodglass replied to Newbee's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
You should be able to get enough iodine by just using iodized salt. It is also a good idea to have your iron levels tested to make sure you need to supplement it as it can be toxic if you take too much. Are you also seeing a lot of undigested food? Have you talked to your doctor? If you haven't it would be a good idea, IMHO as you may have something going... -
ARCHIVED My Father Was Just Diagnosed With Celiac...
ravenwoodglass replied to raininblack's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Since you have family members with celiac there is a good chance you have it too considering the symptoms you are having. Do get your doctor to run the blood work and if you choose to do the endo have it done before you go gluten free. After all your testing is finished then you can give the diet a good strict try no matter what the test results and see if... -
ARCHIVED Celiac, Sex, And Pancreas
ravenwoodglass replied to Making-A-Change's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
Celiac can impact pancreatic function or any other organ for that matter. As the previous poster stated your source of CC from your husband would be through him eating gluten and you then kissing. That would apply if you are already gluten free. Have you talked to your GYN about the possibility of you being allergic to your husbands semen? I think I have... -
ARCHIVED Should I Go To The Doctor To Be Tested (Please Help Me)
ravenwoodglass replied to sweetcheeks's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Yes you should be tested but you need to be eating a regular gluten diet. If you are already gluten light or gluten free your tests will be a false negative. -
ARCHIVED Alcohol
ravenwoodglass replied to jenhunter's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Very, very few sodas have gluten. I have only come across one in 10 years. My concern with the speed bar is more CC. -
ARCHIVED Alcohol
ravenwoodglass replied to jenhunter's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I go with wine or a clear Bacardi rum and coke but only if the coke (or Pepsi) is out of a can or bottle. I avoid the 'speed bar' drinks that shoot out of a nozzle or anything with a premade mixer. Some bars in my area also have gluten free beer and if they do that is what I will drink. I second the suggestion to be careful as your tolerance may have changed... -
ARCHIVED Sick And Nervous
ravenwoodglass replied to Anastasiette's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
After I was finally diagnosed and went to a follow up appointment with the GI who had misdiagnosed me for years he asked me how I was feeling. I told him the best thing was not being woken up every night with incredible pain and D. He stated that he wished I had told him that sooner as being woken up with D rules out IBS. IBS doesn't wake people from sleep... -
ARCHIVED Celiacs, Have You Tested Repeatedly For Trace Of Blood In Urine?
ravenwoodglass replied to 1desperateladysaved's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Yes to blood and in my case also protein. Since I had extreme edema before diagnosis I figure it is from some kidney damage. I don't worry about it since it has been a finding for years. -
ARCHIVED Suffering Depression - Medication Question
ravenwoodglass replied to Raining Skittles's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
You are very new to the diet. Some of us will go through withdrawls when we have stopped all gluten. That may be what is happening with you and if it is it is normal and the depression will lift without the use of antidepressants. There are also a lot of life changes that celiac brings and some find it helpful to talk to a counselor about it. Do be careful... -
ARCHIVED So Confused - Could This Be Something Other Than Celiac?
ravenwoodglass replied to ErinIsabel's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
You may be getting some cross contamination. We often become more sensitive to very, very tiny amounts after we have healed a bit. Has anything changed in the last couple of months? Are you trying to eat mostly whole unprocessed foods? Are you eating in restaurants? Any new toiletries or hair care products? Those need to be gluten free IMHO. Any remodeling... -
That's great news. So good to hear he is doing better.
