  1. Does he have an accent??? (swoon!) I second that! Ok, my neighbors don't really do anything kooky (that I've caught them at,) so my new av is a pic of my friend's dog.
  2. Welcome to the board! Does your daughter have any other symptoms at all, besides being small? Have you looked at a symptoms list? Click here to see Open Original Shared Link, and if you read the Parents' forum, you'll see more. Symptoms are VERY widely varied. If your daughter has absolutely no symptoms besides being small, I'm with you. I would be...
  3. Ok, let's see, if I leave right now, I should be there by... Friday? I'm on my way!
  4. I think this is key, right here. We want our kids to not be different, and not feel bad about the disease. The thing is- those are really two different things. The facts can't be changed. Celiac kids have to eat different foods than other kids. It stinks, but it is not the end of the world. I feel like the sooner our kids accept that comfortably, the sooner...
  5. This recipe is pretty versatile. I've made it a few different ways with success. If I'm short on ingredients, I replace the bean flour and flax seed meal with an additional 1/2 c. of gluten-free flour blend. (Actually, I never use the bean flour, I always replace it with sorghum!)
  6. I've always thought this was the Smug/Satisfied Guy. Or possibly, Chuckling Guy.
  7. Phunny, AND superb usage of an oft-neglected emoticon!
  8. Well, it's like this. The vaccine has been around in the States for several years. When Luke turned 1, they offered it to me, but I refused it. At that point, they really had no good idea of how long the vaccine would last, and at what age a booster would be required, etc. I figured I'd rather my kids got the chicken pox naturally while they're young, than...
  9. Yeah, that'd be great! I hadn't heard or read any discussions on fiber plus probiotics to shorten a reaction, but the logic of it seems sound in Luke's case. In general, I don't know how much these two things would help the average Celiac... But a HUGE part of Luke's reaction is the bowel incontinence which just drags on forever. It definitely seems...
  10. This varies with every person. There's really no standard. Also, some symptoms may last longer than others. (Example, for me-- the diarrhea lasts longer than the heartburn, and the fatigue lasts longer than the diarrhea.) Sometimes it's hard, but it gets a lot easier with time. And don't be surprised if his glutening symptoms worsen the longer he...
  11. Sumac girl here! Not as badly susceptible as you're describing, but quite miserable even so, requiring steroids to resolve, etc... YUCK. I've never had a reaction to poison oak or ivy at all, though. I do get a decent reaction from azaleas, however. Not if I just touch them, but if I get scratched by a stem or branch... such as when weeding around my gorgeous...
  12. Seriously?! The tick was just on him yesterday-- there's no way to tell if the tick was even a carrier unless he shows symptoms, right? I mean... everyone I know has been bitten by ticks, literally. We're in a bad area for them. But that doesn't mean they all have Lyme, right? I am keeping an eye on him, though, of course, for any rash, fever etc....

You can also make a trail mix with gluten-free pretzels, nuts, sunflower...
  16. I can tell you that before going gluten-free, my diarrhea was pretty much only in the morning. Over a few years it got worse and worse, until it was every morning, 5 or 6 times. After I had been up a while, it would ease off. That all stopped when I went gluten-free. My cramps weren't as bad as yours, but I can tell you that it's perfectly possible to have...
  17. Amanda, so sorry to hear about your co-worker! Will be sending positive thoughts her way... All hail King Peter the Oracle! Hey... we should all have cool nick names like that when we get the crown.
  18. Emily, The Ripper's essay is awesome! What an incredible kid. At that age, to make that sort of self assessment and decision... it's pretty freaking impressive! Is your hubby permanently gluten-free, then? I remember he went gluten-free during the phart charting hey day, right?
  19. Parties last last night were fabulous! So fabulous I was pretty much useless today. My best friend is the cheesecake queen!!! Her cheesecakes are requested for all major events by friends and family. Her stuff is actually better than Cheesecake Factory. The one she made for me was a huge gluten-free chocolate swirl cheesecake, with crumbled peanut...
  20. My mom pulled a tick off Ezra today. Yeeeargh!
  21. I just did!!! I heard it for the first time when she was on Idol the other night. Love it!
  22. More jury duty!!!!!!!!!! You guys, I am soooo addicted to a new song! It's Pocket Full of Sunshine by Natasha Bedingfield. I listened to some other songs from the album, and they're not really my cup of tea. But I can't stop listening to that one song, over and over.
  23.   Speaking of drinking... Going to a party at my best friend's house tomorrow night! TWO parties in one month, holy crap. Last month was for her b-day, this time it's my turn. (The party's a little early, my b-day's later this week.) I think we're going to run over to her neighbor's house too, who's having a Cinco...
  24. Wooooohoooo!!! Raleigh is a couple hours from me, but it's good to know!
