  1. Ooh, apples and sweet potatoes sounds like a great combo. I'm still somewhat new to baking with "alternative" ingredients though, so I have to ask... what is agave??? -Sarah
  2. Amy, congratulations!!! I think your idea of soups is a good one; you can get lots of good nutritious things into one meal that way. Try not to freak about the cravings. I mean, obviously you want to limit your junk food, but there is validity in paying attention to your cravings. Every pregnancy is different... With my first child, I craved...
  3. Thank you, thank you! My best friend has made this Pumpkin Cheesecake. Supposedly, it's the recipe that the Cheesecake Factory uses. I've had their Pumpkin Cheesecake once, and this recipe seems right on. The only ingredient that needs to be altered to make it gluten-free is the graham cracker crust. You could use gluten-free graham crackers. For the...
  4. Big thank you for posting this! It sounds awesome, especially with the cream cheese. Can't wait to try it out!!! -Sarah
  5. Thank you, Juliet! Burdee, I still wouldn't mind having the vegan recipe for pumpkin ice cream, as well. I loooove pumpkin goodies!!! -Sarah
  6. There used to be a little homemade ice cream place near me that carried Pumpkin Custard Ice Cream. I used to go there and have them make a milkshake out of it for me, and it was the best thing ever! I haven't thought about that in years..... I think I'll have to break out that ice cream machine that I've never used, and start experimenting! -Sarah
  7. Thank you for posting the Punkin Bread recipe!!! And imsohungry, I would love to have the Zucchini Bread Recipe! Thanks! -Sarah
  8. We're also in NC-- Pilot Mountain. Also a tiny little rural town. Good to see so many other NC people on here! -Sarah
  9. I have to say, it sounds like Celiac to me, too. The constipation and poopy accidents sound A LOT like my son. He's 6 1/2 now, and was still having poopy accidents on a regular basis until I put him on a gluten-free diet 3 months ago. Now he ONLY has accidents when he's glutened. We finally figured out that the poop was just coming on too fast, he had...
  10. Ohh, how I wish wish wish that someone would put out a gluten-free version of Lucky Charms!!! It's one of the things Lucas misses the most! -Sarah
  11. More stuff... Snacks: - Homemade Cereal Bars (I use the Rice Krispy Treat recipe and substitute Cocoa Pebbles or Fruity Pebbles instead of the Rice Krispies) - Trail Mix (nuts, M&Ms, raisins) - Bumble Bars (google it, they're awesome) - Glutino pretzels are good - Yogurt - Pickles - Italian Ice, Popsicles Meals: - Chili - Stir-frys...
  12. Have you looked at some symptom lists for Celiac? Poring over symptoms lists always made me crazy, and yet, they helped and this is why-- My 6 yr old's constant poopy accidents are what initially made me look at Celiac (like you, I have family members who are Celiacs,) but once I started researching it, I found out that he was actually exhibiting other symptoms...
  13. I haven't been around nearly as long as some other people here, but I do have a few thoughts... I see that you're doing both Enterolab stool testing and a Ped GI who may do blood work. I know that stool testing is supposed to be far more accurate than the blood test, from what I've read. I've read that stool testing can detect gluten intolerance even if the...
  14. I also try to discourage my kids from drinking from the water fountains simply because they tend to be the most germ infested surfaces in a school. (Bathrooms tend to actually have less germs and bacteria than other rooms, because people tend to clean them more carefully!) I say "try to discourage," but I know they do it anyway. So far my 6 yr old G. Int...
  15. I have been looking for a gluten-free kids multivitamin as well. Are Gummy Vites health food store / Whole Foods thing, or have you all seen them at drugstores or Wal-mart? (I live in a very rural area, and only get to Whole Foods every couple weeks because it takes nearly an hour and a half to get there. Thanks, Sarah
  16. Thanks for the replies, everybody! I remember now, I've seen Knox gelatin before.... but I definitely didn't see it last night, and got totally confused as to what the heck these recipes were talking about! -Sarah

    ARCHIVED Working

If they don't want to rehire you in the spring, I would say that's their loss, not yours. There are other jobs out there. You want to work for a company that doesn't hold your medical condition against you (which is illegal, by the way.)
  18. Ok, I just spent an unpleasant amount of time staring at Jello in the grocery store. Many gluten-free bread recipes I want to try call for "unflavored gelatin." I assume this isn't Jello; I looked, and Jello doesn't make an unflavored variety. Are they talking about pectin, like the stuff you use to make homemade jam? Like Sure-Jell or something? ...
  19. Actually it's not; it prevents conception from occuring.
  20. Wow! I've never heard of this happening- I'm very curious-- what did your MRIs show to be the problem with your back? -Sarah
  21. Oh, and I forgot to mention... (I really need to write all this down for when I meet with the fam. Dr.)... The day he was born, Lucas had some kind of wierd gagging, retching thing going on. They had to suction his stomach when he was less than a day old. He then became jaundiced, but they said he wasn't bad enough to put under the bili light. They...
  22. Just wanted to chime in, that I, too, have been on the lookout for a dressing like this-- actually to use it as a marinade! I haven't found one yet, so I'd also be interested if anyone has a recipe! -Sarah
  23. I laughed when I read this, but I completely agree. A grown-up that pouts and complains over cake needs to re-evaluate thier priorities. Natalie, I think it was super nice and considerate of you to make a special dinner for your cousin, and host this party. I know they are your family and your love them, but sneaking around and RUSHING off to eat something...
  24. They both do love the gluten-free pretzels, that's one thing at least. I need to figure out how to add a signature that can go after my posts, like you all have. But thier symptoms are: Lucas, age 6 1/2: Poopy accidents almost every day since beginning potty training. Sometimes little, sometimes big, very very stinky. Chronic ear and sinus infections...
