  1. I thought that Oral B Stages toothpaste (kids') was gluten-free. It's not? Where did you discover that? -Sarah *Edit- Never mind, I found the posts from earlier this year where you and JennyC and others were talking about it. Uggghh! I had checked the Oral-B website months ago, and it says this: "Question: Gluten in Stages Toothpaste...
  2. No! You are not harming her, although the toothpaste and vitamins may, if they contain gluten. There's a big difference. You are doing everything you can to help her. Like gfpaperdoll said, there's a learning curve involved here. The more you read, the more you'll learn. Tip-- with some of the items that you normally wouldn't consider food, like...
  3. Ok, this is actually about me for the first time, not my kids. So if this post needs to be moved, go for it. About 3 weeks ago, I went gluten-free. This is why: - Diarrhea virtually every day for at least 4 or 5 months (before that, I bounced between diarrhea and constipation for years) - Bloated stomach for at least 4 or 5 months - Frequent edema...
  4. Her creations are breathtaking! -Sarah
  5. I would say it's entirely possible. One thing that has really astounded me, is the fact that once you eliminate gluten, the reaction upon getting glutened is much more severe than before. My son definitely has a strong reaction when glutened, pretty different from what we were dealing with before going gluten-free. -Sarah
  6. Have you tried eliminating dairy? In my reading, I've discovered that something like 50% of all Celiacs (at a minimum) are also intolerant to casein, a protein in milk. In fact, it's so common in Celiacs that I've started referring to it in my head as "milk gluten." If you haven't tried completely eliminating that, I would do so immediately. Like allergies...
  7. Wowww, it's weird how things go round in circles.... Even the internet can be a small world! Back in the late winter, I became addicted to a blog called Farmgirl Fare. Susan, the author, runs a farm, and is also a bread maker. Several months ago, when my son went gluten-free, I emailed Susan to see what she knew about gluten-free bread baking. She said...
  8. Could you post the Ore Idea list for me, please? I'd really like to have that! -Sarah
  9. The shortness of breath could just be fear/panic. But for heaven's sake, definitely make sure someone else in your family is awake, just in case. Also, if you have any Benedryl cream, or other cortisone cream, maybe it will help the itchies! -Sarah
  10. Any lab that does genetic testing can test for the Celiac genes, though that probably doesn't tell you much. I'd ask your doctor for a referral, or else go through Enterolab. Enterolab actually does not require Dr orders to do any of their testing. You order the test kits over the website, they send you the kits. You then collect the samples and send them...
  11. This very interesting info. I had read before that today's wheat has been engineered for a higher gluten content, but this post was more detailed and clear. I'm with Fiddle-Faddle's husband. If it was engineered to be that way, scientists should be able to engineer it right back out! -Sarah
  12. Thank you for the info- I'll pass it on!!! -Sarah
  13. This is my philosophy as well! Every time I set something new in front of my boys, they (esp. the 4 yr old) say, I don't like it! To which I reply, You don't know that yet- you've never had it. I persistently encourage them to try one bite- but like you, I never force them to eat the rest if they don't like it. A serving of beans is not worth a night...
  14. Done. I'm interested, too, in what your project is about- let us know! -Sarah
  15. I can tell you that the eye-twitch is a symptom my mom gets when she gets glutened. She also can only tolerate Vodka made from potatoes. -Sarah
  16. I'm not quite an old pro yet, but here's a few I can think of that are common: CC-- Cross Contamination D-- Diarrhea C-- Constipation BM-- Bowel Movement Dx-- Diagnosis DD-- Dear Daughter DS-- Dear Son DH-- Dear Husband or Dermatitis Herpetiformis G F -- Gluten Free CF-- Casein Free DF-- Dairy Free SF-- Soy Free Hope this helps! ...
  17. Oh, I am so very, very glad you asked this. I've been terribly worried lately about issues relating to this! Ok, so we know that once you've eliminated a substance you are sensitive to, your reaction becomes stronger when you're exposed to it. Allergies have to the potential to become stronger and stronger each time you're exposed to the substance. What...
  18. In my not-too-delicate opinion, that is BOOL CRAP. Seriously though, I've heard stories before of babies who are sensitive to the wheat their mothers ingested while breastfeeding. How else does he explain her turn-around after going strictly gluten-free? I mean 10 pounds plus a few inches is hugely significant! You said he tested her and it came back...
  19. Yes! The Van's waffles that Darn210 mentioned are indeed dairy and egg free. They are available at Whole Foods, and at some regular grocery stores. Be careful that the front of the box is marked "gluten-free" because they also make a line of wheat waffles. My sons are also waffle addicts, and they love Van's Blueberry waffles, and their Buckwheat Wild...
  20. Is there any single veggie or fruit that he will eat? Dairy, such as milk, yogurt, and cheese can count as protein if he won't do meat right now. Can you give us some examples of what he normally eats in a day? -Sarah
  21. My son wasn't a particularly picky eater, before or now. But I do think it's possible that it can be linked to Celiac. (In fact, it's one reason I'm trying to convince one of my cousins to get tested. I swear he lived on the BRAT diet till he was 16, etc.) But he did go through a typical toddler picky phase, and my other son is much pickier. Jenny...
  22. I hadn't considered that before! I guess, unless some of the other members came up with a reason why it would be a good idea, I probably would not get one for my son. If he had an allergy that caused a histological reaction (like swelling of mouth/tongue, breathing difficulties) then I would. In your case, I think I would be more likely to get her one...
  23. Yeah, I started showing wayyy earlier (and bigger) with my second pregnancy. I think the whole abdominal area is more elastic by the second time around. I was absolutely sure I was going to have twins (which was especially plausible, since my father is a twin.) But no, just one baby! One of my best friends showed like you seem to be, with her third child...
  24. Hathor, do you remember where you read about that? If you could point me in the right direction regarding a connection between gall bladder problems and Celiac, I'd really appreciate it!!! -Sarah
  25. I was just looking for more info on this, and found that October is Celiac Disease Awareness Month. Open Original Shared Link -Sarah
