  1. Congrats! That's so awesome! I can't wait until I can have oatmeal again! My GI doc said I needed to be fully healed (proven by my 1 year blood test) before I can try gluten-free oatmeal. He says that some people react to the protein in oatmeal (not gluten). Having oatmeal again will be such a blessing! I totally understand your excitement! Oatmeal cookies...
  2. The endoscopy is the "gold standard" for diagnosis right now (so I'm told) so as long as he does that you should know for sure. I have read that you have to be ingesting gluten for at least 2 months (I think it was) to get accurate, no fail blood test results. I know my doctor told me that 1 year after diagnosis he will order another blood test for me and...
  3. Here's a link to a great recipe that I make - Open Original Shared Link. Just replace the oreos with extra raspberries and blueberries or even gluten free cookies if you like. It's SO good. My husband made this for me the first time I had it and I was so impressed! If cool whip is a problem (it doesn't have lactose, but it does have the milk-derived...
  4. I hadn't heard of Orthostatic Hypotension, but I just looked it up on Wikipedia and the symptoms sound very much like the same symptoms I have had with celiac disease: Symptoms, which generally occur after sudden standing, include dizziness, lightheadedness, headache, blurred or dimmed vision (possibly to the point of momentary blindness), generalized...
  5. So since I've been very sick for almost 36 hours now, I've started trying to hunt down the culprit so I can avoid this in the future if at all possible. I tried a new cheap wine called Crane Lake before getting sick. Has anyone had this before? I wanted to call the company, but it doesn't have a number on the bottle and I can't seem to find them online. It...
  6. It does help, thanks! It's nice to know that I'm not crazy over here. I really appreciate all of the responses. I called my doctor twice this morning and emailed yesterday and have not heard anything back. This board is such a comfort. I am so thankful to be able to have such a large and knowledgeable support group! Thank you very much!
  7. Thanks for your help! I just tried eating rice in chicken bouillon so we'll see how that goes. It can only get better at this point I think!
  8. I love WalMart too! I never have to worry about their products because they are clearly labeled! I love the way they print GLUTEN FREE in such large letters! Hopefully other stores will get the picture. I buy everything I can from them.
  9. I haven't had any problems with Hershey's products that I know of. I'm still not healed though so I couldn't say for sure!
  10. I had an itchy rash/hives thing on my upper leg and my ankles when I was at my sickest. It certainly does sound like celiac disease to me. I can't imagine having to go back to eating gluten again. Thankfully I had all of my tests done before going gluten free and feeling better. Good luck!
  11. Thanks so much for posting this. I'm glad to hear that I'm not alone in this experience and I'm not dying! I'd never heard of the Brat diet before so I googled it. It definitely looks like a good plan. I just wish now that I knew what glutened me. It'd be worth it if I had a nice big slice of pizza for all this pain.
  12. I haven't tried that brand before. I wish I could help! It's the worst when you're sick and you don't know exactly what caused it. I hope you figure it out and feel better!
  13. I have been horribly sick for 32 hours now and am starting to wonder if this is a "normal" celiac related glutening or if I am sick with something else. It is like I have been taking the colonoscopy prep pills for 32 hours straight (seriously - no exaggeration). Has anyone else been glutened this badly? If so, do you have any advice on how to get through...
  14. You're very welcome! Thank YOU for sharing your wonderful recipes!
  15. I just wanted to share a great recipe by Lorka150 (Laurie) that I found on Recipezaar. I made it the other day and it was so good I decided to buy Laurie's book. I always make her Flax Bread which is a godsend (Open Original Shared Link - also a thread on it here: Open Original Shared Link so I figure the best way I can say thank you to her is to buy her...
  16. Good post! Here are my symptoms: 1. Distended Stomach/Bloating/Gurgling (first sign) 2. D (and multiple times to the bathroom) 3. Agitated 4. Blurry stinging eyes and sensitivity to light 5. Mouth Sores 6. Foot Cramping 7. Gas 8. Fatigue/Foggy Head 9. Nasal Drip (forgot to add until someone mentioned it later) Here are some other's posts on...
  17. I have really dry skin too. It's so bad it cracks and bleeds on my hands! I haven't paid attention as to whether it's worse when I'm glutened. Interesting!
  18. My doctor (Alessio Fasano - UM Center for Celiac Research) said that I should come back once a year to meet with him and have my blood work done. He said that if my blood work comes back normal then we will know that I am not accidentally ingesting gluten. (Hopefully I am relaying the information correctly). Maybe a simple blood test would answer your question...
  19. At Wal-Mart, the Great Value brand of canned mushrooms says that it is processed in a facility that also processes wheat. They also offer a brand called Pennsylvania Dutchman Mushrooms Stems & Pieces. Has anyone tried this? I miss having canned mushrooms around, but am worried about getting glutened. Thanks in advance!
  20. Yum! This recipe looks great! I can't wait to try it. Thanks for posting!
  21. Thanks for posting! I'm going to try this after I get back from my cruise. It looks great! Emily
  22. I know that international food markets have large bags of rice flour and it is much cheaper. My mom bought me a bag, but I am worried that it could be contaminated so I haven't tried it yet. Anyway, that is an option. Also, a local health store called Healthway gives me a 10% discount if I buy a box (4 bags) of flour. It's still expensive though. I've been...
  23. I gained weight too when going gluten free. I started doing weight watchers and stopped eating and drinking wine at night. One thing I love to eat that is easy and gluten free for lunch is a can of tuna, a 1/2 cup of cottage cheese and a 1/2 can of green beans (mixed up and heated in the microwave). Sounds gross, but I love it! Good luck!
  24. One super fast and cheap lunch I have been having at work is, 1 can tuna 1/2 can green beans 1/4-1/2 cup cottage cheese Mixed together and heated up for 2 mins. I think it's good, but i'm sure kids wouldn't like it. You could probably add cheddar cheese on top if you wanted.
  25. I went to this restaurant recently (off Rolling Rd. in Saratoga Shopping Center in Springfield, VA) and it was wonderful! I just had to share it with everyone. If you are looking for a safe place to go, this is it! I showed them my Triumph dining cards and Sophie, the manager, came out to talk with me and recommended that I get the white sauce. The meal was...
