ARCHIVED Glutened By The Smell Of Flour, In The Flour Isle At The Store
modiddly16 replied to Rick45's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I'm hoping that this isn't a direct blow to the people that were offering help and suggestions to the initial poster. Just because I have not been on this bored as long as you does not mean that I am not experienced, I just have never heard of anyone getting glutened by breathing air before, such as the fumes from a BBQ or walking by a bakery. Surely, if... -
ARCHIVED Glutened By The Smell Of Flour, In The Flour Isle At The Store
modiddly16 replied to Rick45's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
To the best of my knowledge, you can't get glutened by smelling gluten...or dreaming about eating Krispy Kreme donuts...I myself have asked about this! -
60 years is amazing!!! I've been in this situation several times where I've either picked something up on the way there that I knew I could eat or I took my own food. Sometimes you could get a salad, but be careful of dressings, or once you get there you could ask to speak to a manager or chef. Maybe you'll find out where you're going earlier enough that...

I've made a veggie pizza with Chebe pizza mix, and it was delicious. However, with Chebe, you either love it or you hate it. I love it

ARCHIVED Impossible Cheeseburger Pie/bisquick Substitute
modiddly16 replied to NWLAX36Mom's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
Can you make this in a premade pie crust without bisquick?? perhaps using gluten-free flour? 123 Gluten Free biscuit mix might work? I dunno... -
ARCHIVED Fast Food French Fries...is Anywhere Safe?
modiddly16 replied to taweavmo3's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
There's a constant debate about whether McDonald's fries are gluten-free or not...they don't actually contain wheat but there has been a lot of issues with that, you could probably search the page and see that debate taking place on the board. I've eaten at Chick-fil-a several times without getting sick, they have a seperate fryer for their fries...so maybe... -

Ok, So I OD'd on ordering pie crusts and didn't realize they came 2 to a pack, so now I have like 4 extra pie crusts taking up some much needed space in my freezer, I'm going to make a quiche tonight but I wanted to know some good recipes for pies, ANY kind, doesn't have to be dessert, that you use with a pre-baked pie crust!!! thanks

ARCHIVED Home Ec/cooking In School
modiddly16 replied to Juliebove's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Like I said in my previous post...Talk to the teacher, not the principal, not the school district, the teacher of the class. My mom (family and consumer science/home ec teacher extrodinarre) always works with children to make sure that everyone has something special to eat...if you're making pasta, she brought in rice pasta for her students, she's had 6 celiacs... -
ARCHIVED Home Ec/cooking In School
modiddly16 replied to Juliebove's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Don't skip out on a class like that just because you're afraid the teacher won't work around you! My mom is a home ec teacher and she's always worked with children with allergies and things like that even before I was diagnosed...Many more people have celiac than we all realize, so the teacher might even know someone that does!! Learning how to cook gluten... -
There is a chick fil a in one part of the terminal that is fairly new. I flew in (I think A?) the last time I went to see my family!!

My mother lives in GA...could you post directions or let me know where I can find them? Thanks! -
I played field hockey throughout college and did not have these problems, however, I did have a severe problem with becoming dehydrated which then causes the symptoms you are describing, maybe you're not getting the proper hydration that you need to in order for these symptoms to lessen. When I played I had to be very strict about what I ate and making sure...

ARCHIVED gluten-free Pancakes At Ihop!
modiddly16 replied to ptkds's topic in Gluten-Free Restaurants
Yes, I believe its a more recent addition to their menu as well, during my diagnosis about 4-5 years ago, I was in college in southern virginia and got sick and it was not on the menu. I'm glad that it is now! I didn't know about the flour tortilla thing, that is very helpful, thank you! -
ARCHIVED Louisville For A Wedding This Weekend
modiddly16 posted a topic in Traveling with Celiac Disease
I'm heading to Louisville this weekend for a wedding and was curious about any restaurants there (or any info on their minor league ballpark!) so I can have a nice weekend with my family and actually eat without getting sick! Any help would be fantastic! -
ARCHIVED gluten-free Pancakes At Ihop!
modiddly16 replied to ptkds's topic in Gluten-Free Restaurants
It has been a few years since I've eaten at an IHOP and when I did, it definetely wasn't on the menu that pancake batter was in their omletes...if it was, I certainly didn't see it.....on the menu or not, it's still weird that they do that... -
ARCHIVED gluten-free Pancakes At Ihop!
modiddly16 replied to ptkds's topic in Gluten-Free Restaurants
I would be VERY careful with how trusting you are of IHOP...Even if they do have gluten free corn cake pancakes, will they clean the grill after each time?? The risk for CC in a place like that shoots through the roof...plus...IHOP has been known to put pancake batter in their omletes to make them fluffier...it would be wonderful if more mainstream places... -
ARCHIVED Corn Tortilla Chips
modiddly16 replied to radgirl's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Are you sure they were corn chips? I've run into several situations and found out that most authentic (and fast food like Moe's and Willy's) use flour tortilla chips. I of course found this out the hard way and then asked the next time I went in!! -
ARCHIVED Are Blue Diamond Nut-thins Safe?
modiddly16 replied to bakinghomesteader's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I also eat them reaction free and a lot of them, daily! Removing from your diet might help to at least narrow down what is causing your discomfort..I hope you start to feel better soon! -
Skittles
modiddly16 replied to modiddly16's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Walmarts are intense. I usually hate going to them only because they're so crowded and people can be really pushy!!! Plus there's something about taking your children to Walmart in their pajamas at night and then yelling at them that we southern folk seem to do that I don't quite understand (humor...but truthful humor). But I did not know about all this... -
Skittles
modiddly16 replied to modiddly16's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
What is the controversy with Walmart? Are they a cross contamination issue? I hadn't heard any of that...it's nice to know about the Starbursts as well, Thank you for the welcome! -
hello all. I am new to the board, so I am sure you already know of this information. Skittles say gluten-free right on the back of the package, I bought one at work because I had a sugar craving and wasn't sure and there it was on the back of the package. I wish all products were like that. I'm having a difficult time adjusting!
