  1. Have any of you tried the Kinnikinnik pizza crust shells? They're pretty good. They are relatively thick (compared to the other brands) and stay crisp on the outside and soft in the middle. Even though it takes a few more minutes to add my own toppings, it makes for a pretty tasty alternative. Not to mention, I get a pack of 4 crusts for the price of...
  2. I can't believe I found someone else who had the same experience as me! I tried to explain that weird pressure on my sternum to my old Dr (pre-diagnosis) and he thought I was mad! Since going gluten-free, that pressure has gone away. However, I still get the weird dizzy spells from time to time (not as much pre-diagnosis). I also had the weird heart...
  3. Also had a great experience at the Chuy's in Austin. I would also suggest, the Shady Grove, the Hula Hut, and Amy's Ice Cream They were all very accommodating. They even brought out their recipe book so I could browse the ingredients (Amy's even called the owner at home on a Friday night!). In addition, the WildWood Art Cafe (just on the outskirts...
  4. Needless to say, when it comes to our food, we must be nice but assertive. I would call the hotel, ask for the catering dept. and ask to speak to the person who is managing the event. Explain your situation and how dire it is that you get a special meal. I tend to agree w/ the other poster, sometimes its better to say that you have a food allergy to wheat...
  5. Yes, the Cerrone cones are outrageously pricey (I forgot to include that in my initial post). That's why I only buy them once a year! Please keep us posted on the homemade cones, I've been anxious to try the recipe.
  6. That would not be tacky in the least! When I was first diagnosed, I was usually afraid/embarassed to ask for assistance with my food. I would usually not eat and just pretend I wasn't hungry. After 3 years of being gluten-free, I'm over the uneasiness (finally!). Since my diagnoses I have gone to several weddings where I've requested gluten-free meals...
  7. Gluten in body/hair products can also irritate those who suffer from DH. Often times, there are small lesions that can be inflamed by gluten (for those who are especially sensitive). I have definitely seen a difference in my skin/scalp since I started using gluten-free products
  8. Hello! I just ate my first gluten-free hot dog bun last night and it wasn't bad....made by EnerG foods. The texture was pretty close to the real thing (just a bit more dense) and it held together great! I had the tapioca buns. They make a brown high fiber bun too. Open Original Shared Link
  9. Hello everyone! I just wanted to share some info I received today. For those who are especially sensitive to body/skin products w/ gluten, here's a list of Aveda products to avoid (as provided by Aveda's customer service). GLUTEN REFERENCE GUIDE These are the products Aveda manufactures containing gluten. Please be aware, customers...
  10. Shelton's and Trader Joes brand
  11. I'm afraid I haven't made any cones from scratch. However, here's a link for a recipe I found for homemade cones on the net Open Original Shared Link - Let us know how they come out! If they end up being too time consuming, I highly recommend Cerrone Waffle Cones. They are light, crispy, and the closest thing to the "real deal" (albeit a tad fragile...
  12. VERY helpful! Thanks for posting this!
  13. Hello everyone! I just wanted to share a product list I just received from Dermalogica. I absolutely LOVE this product line! It has been a lifesaver for me and my super sensitive skin. Hope this might be a help to you Please note, all of the products listed have gluten - there are a myriad of other products that are gluten-free Open Original...
  14. I just realized after reading this post that I used to have RLS before going gluten-free. I never put 2 and 2 together. I always just assumed that I was an "active sleeper" Since going gluten-free, the RLS has disappeard, thank goodness!
  15. I'm so glad I found this post! I too have had this experience of intense thirst. I would drink over a gallon of water a day and was still thirsty. I would also eat ice incessantly (Pica perhaps?). I could go through a 5 pound bag in a couple of days. After being diagnosed w/ celiac disease/anemia, I went on the gluten-free diet and the thirst/ice cravings...
  16. I think the best thing out there is the Bumble Bar. Great flavors (chocolate, Chai w/ almonds, and apricot are my favs) and all flavors are gluten free. They have alot of Omega oils, nuts and dried fruit. They are light and tasty, yet satisfying....a nice change from those heavy meal replacement bars Open Original Shared Link
  17. I suggest Columbus Meats, all varieties are gluten free (and very tasty!). I especially like the peppercorn crusted hard salami and the Italian turkey. You can find CM at Trader Joes
  18. I am SO glad I saw this post! I thought I was the only one who got those tiny blisters. I'm very strict on my diet, no cheating. But I do get one little blister on the roof of my mouth every once in a while, usually after very spicy or acidic food. It usually goes away in a day or so. I used to get them in greater frequency before going gluten-free....
  19. Hello! I suggest pinwheel sandwiches made w/ Woman's Tortillas ( Open Original Shared Link ) and Columbus Meats from Trader Joe's. The tortillas are flax based and are quite soft and pliable compared to regular rice tortillas. I spread a thin layer of hummus to act as an adhesive so the sandwiches would keep their shape. I made them for one of my parties...
  20. I would suggest Bumble Bars. The chocolate and apricot flavors are my favorite. They're very tasty and kids love them! Have fun on your trip!
  21. I had problems w/ cysts as soon as I went off the pill. I'm not sure if it's celiac related or not. I have been trying to get pregnant for the past two years w/ no luck. Hopefully, it's just me and others have had better luck
  22. I'm from an Italian family, so I feel your pain! I agree w/ the group Tinkyada and Trader Joe's Brown rice pasta are great (stick with the penne, the other varieties don't hold their shape as well). Stay away from the corn based pasta!
  23. Hi! I went to the celiac conference in LA and they had a dentist speak on different anomalies that effect the enamel. Such as, ridges/ripples, white or yellow splotches, unexplained yellow caste, shrinking gums, blisters/lesions, etc. He said that there are such tell tale signs that he can now recognize a celiac just by looking in their mouths...very interesting...
