  1. I also wanted to add you can use buckwheat groats or quinoa as a substitute for grain, both have good protein and just serve with cooked veges. mung bean noodles you can find some places and are good in soup with veges Also had a lot of fruit smoothies
  2. What type of pastry are you trying to make? I have used palm oil shortening in baking and have had good results with it.
  3. I am also a vegetarian and I did an elimination diet several months ago. My doctor had me cut out dairy, corn, rice, soy, eggs, and nuts (I was already off gluten), she had me continue to eat beans because I was a vegetarian. She had me cut all those out for 3 weeks then add one back at a time for 3 days in a row then back to the diet for 4 days then try...
  4. my doctor says you are more prone to developing additional intolerances once you have one, eating the same foods everyday also makes it more likely. I developed several more after celiac and am now on a rotation diet to prevent any more, so far it is working. Soy is one of the worst foods for you, look it up, I am vegetarian too so I know it is hard to...
  5. If you are eating the same things everyday then it is very likely you would get additional intolerances. I developed more intolerances about a year after going gluten free because I was eating a lot of the same things everyday too. Talk to your doctor about doing an elimination diet to figure out if other things are bugging you, you eliminate all major...
  6. I used to get that all the time before going gluten free, do you think you may have gotten accidental gluten? Another thing that causes pain in my arms is corn but it is more of a dull pain. You may be reacting to another food if you are sure no gluten has snuck in
  7. if you are continuing to have symptoms, have you considered additional food intolerances? Have you tried an elimination diet?
  8. I am thinking about getting a medical alert bracelet and I am unsure what to put on it maybe someone can help. I am allergic to latex, peanuts and penicillin I am intolerant to corn (heard this is in IV fluids?) soy and gluten (not officially diagnosed with celiac but my sister has it so I am fairly positive) Thanks
  9. I had the same problem as you, I was between insurances when I discovered gluten was the problem, but I decided to skip testing and go gluten free right away because I couldn't stand being sick for one more day. So my doctor considers me gluten intolerant. You need to decide whether all the suffering is worth the diagnosis.
  10. you can make crackers with Chebe mixes, I made them with the cinnamon mix and I thought they tasted a lot like cinnamon graham crackers. They have a recipe on the regular mix to make cheesy goldfish like crackers. Maybe instead of oatmeal try buckwheat, I also make lots of muffins, ect... and freeze them so I have an easy breakfast anytime.
  11. I want to go I am in Long Beach and I've been waiting for the Santa Monica location to open.
  12. I had the same problem on birth control (though I don't have endometriosis) I was fine on it for months then breakthrough bleeding that kept getting worse until it was like everyday. My doctor kept switching pills but it kept happening and then I started having more symptoms (the bad ones like the super bad headaches that aren't like normals headaches) and...
  13. also some people who are lactose intolerant can have goat's milk dairy, goat yogurt and goat cheese are delicious and add tons of flavor
  14. falafels!!
  15. I think I may be allergic to latex also, my doctor just gave me a referral to an allergist to confirm. I am freaked out may have to get rid of half my wardrobe too, what did you do? How do you find underwear that doesn't have elastic? And one article I read said you have to get rid of your remote control with rubber buttons, how do you do that?
  16. I use applesauce in place of eggs a lot and it has always worked very well Here is my favorite pancake recipe, it uses buckwheat flour which has a definite flavor but I think it is delicious 1 cup buckwheat flour 1 tsp backing powder (use corn free) 1/2 tsp salt 1 tsp cinnamon 2 tbsp brown sugar 1/3 cup applesauce 1 cup water (or milk sub) ...
  17. I have this problem as well, I get very itchy skin if I use products with gluten in them. And if I continue using them I will also get brain fog, grumpy moods and irritable, if I am not eating it how does it get to my brain?!
  18. I understand that feeling. Have you tried carrying around with you the single serving size salad dressing and soy sauces. That way you know you have a back up if a place doesn't have a safe salad dressing. Also If you can hit the grocery stores in whatever town your in and get some things that you can eat so you can avoid restaurants for some meals. And...
  19. I have been looking into soy a lot lately because I am a vegetarian and was eating too much of it. It was definitely giving me bad PMS and messing with my BC pills and probably other things as well. Now I only eat it in small amounts and try to only eat fermented soy. But I find it interesting that a lot of things that make a large majority of of sick...
  20. Hi I am in Long Beach, I'll have to go try some of those places you are talking about.
  21. I used to eat peanuts everyday too with "no symptoms" Then I stopped eating them for a while and when I started eating them again I noticed I had trouble breathing after and since I have stopped eating them altogether my asthma attacks that happened about twice a week for years stopped completely Sometimes you don't realize your symptoms until they...
  22. I am in So Cal too. A lot of stuff you get at whole foods you can also buy in bulk on amazon much cheaper, so once you find something you like you can just order. We are also getting pizza places that have gluten free pizza (pizzafusion-dot-com) And Babycakes is opening in LA too (babycakesnyc-dot-com)
  23. Will Please understand that no one is suggesting that your parents are not providing you with what would be considered proper nutrition. Your needs may be different than what your parents are. As a vegetarian celiac I had to up the amount of (good) fats in my diet to have energy and feel good. As a teenager who is growing you may (or may not) need more...
  24. I am vegetarian too, and I agree you need more fat in your diet. You also may need to eat more since a lot of things that are left for you to eat are naturally low fat and calorie. You definitely should continue to try different gluten free treats until you find one you like so you will have something around for when those cravings or temptations hit...
  25. I'm vegetarian too and gluten, corn and peanut free and rice, dairy and soy light. I get that hungry feeling a lot and I think it has to do with not getting enough fat in your diet, I eat lots of veggies and find if I roast or fry them in oil it keeps me full much longer. Also other things I've added to my diet that help are sweet potatoes, buckwheat...
