  1. OUCH! Poor Baby! Prayers for all of you.
  2. My dentist routinely prescribes antibiotics *before* dental work. I used to think that was ridiculous overkill, to say the least. But then I became aware of TWO PERSONAL ACQUAINTANCES (not his patients) who were hospitalized after having dental work. One of them, a perfectly healthy and vigorous man in his 50's died. DIED! From a routine trip to...
  3. That makes things difficult. Why can't it ever be simple? Actually is *is* simple ~ but far from easy. I don't know how assertive you are able to get with either your parents or your child's dad. Perhaps an official diagnosis might help. Some people will listen to doctor's orders and not to reason from someone else. Are you able to send food with him...
  4. If he has all those symptoms when he eats wheat then to me it's rather obvious that he has not grown out of it, and it he is truly celiac, he will not ever grow out of it. If you decide to have him tested, be sure to do it before removing wheat from his diet. But no matter what, it sounds like he should not be eating wheat.
  5. If you do a Google search for home baking business ebooks you will turn up a bunch of ebooks which I'm sure are not free and also it looks like some articles that probably are free. Tweak your search terms and probably find more and different info. Make sure you do all your research, including playing "devil's advocate" before you start up. I...
  6. I went to their website and found nothing. I got the feeling they were more interested in selling me something than informing me about what they wanted me to buy. That being said, a google search turned up a post on another forum that said their online help (that I didn't see but could have missed) would look up anything for you, so you might try that before...
  7. I'm beginning to think of restaurant dining as playing Russian Roulette with only one chamber empty while going blindfolded through a mine field. Sooner or later you will get sick. My daughter was quite annoyed but I wouldn't let her take me out for Mother's Day. We finally settled on take-out from a near by Mexican hole-in-the-wall, because I do...
  8. Oats is the first ingredient and does contain the potential for cc, as does the shared equipment. I just posted this info for those who are not so sensitive in case they were interested in trying something readily available and resembling a mainstream product.
  9. My daughter grew up eating almost nothing but Honey Nut Cheerios for breakfast. To her, that *is* breakfast. Even though she has few symptoms, because we have a blood relative with a confirmed Celiac diagnosis (my cousin) I suggested she eat as little gluten as possible. She is willing to do this as she agrees she feels better, even though she didn...
  10. My mom's sister drove a huge 1960 Ford that got 20 mpg. It just amazes me how corporate greed has made things get worse for the consumer, not better. There was a major gas crunch in the 70's - gas stations actually ran out of gas and rationed it. The American car makers just kept making full sized gas guzzlers, reasoning that people would keep buying...
  11. I haven't tried the Whole Foods chips. The Mission brand ones are available everywhere and probably for less money. Here is a link to their allergen info: Open Original Shared Link
  12. Some people have skin issues such as dh. Others do not. Touching anything that contains gluten - soap, clothes, shampoo, pets who have eaten and then"bathed" etc. will leave molecules on your hands which will eventually end up in your mouth. Gotcha! Everyone has gotten shampoo in their mouth at least once in the shower. Think of gluten as dog poop...
  13. I once supervised someone who was bipolar. Once when she was "up" she bought an ill-afforded Mercedes. When she was "down" she could hardly pick up one foot and put it down in front of the other one. She was often in tears for no discernable reason and would come to work with "bed head." It was really awful. In the middle, on the way up or down, she...
  14. Welcome to the forum! Many of your symptoms will go away once you are gluten free. Please get yourself that way ASAP - you won't regret it. Near the top of the page you should see a search feature with the radio button already selecting a forum search. Type in Weight Watchers and numerous threads will come up, just waiting for you to browse...
  15. You are working for a tyrant and a bully. What you describe cannot be legal! Are you keeping a log? Would other employees back up what you say if you blew the whistle? Do you have any laws protecting whistle-blowers? This sounds like a never-ending hell!
  16. While I agree in theory, public transportation isn't always available. Carpooling requires that people who live somewhere near you also work somewhere near where you do and also work more or less the same schedule without the need to drop kids off at school or pick up kids on the way home, etc. Combining errands is something everybody should...
  17. For what it's worth, for most products you buy you are charged based on what the vendor paid for it plus their own mark-up. With gasoline, you are charged not based on what the station owner paid for what you just bought, but on what the station owner will have to pay to replace what you just bought.
  18. Several years ago I wrote an article which has been posted on my web site, many of the major article sites such as Ezine, Hub Pages, etc. The gist of it was that if people drove 60 mph instead of 80 mph on the freeways, they would save a tank of gas per month. Some of them per week, depending on how much they drive. So each person who does that saves...
  19. It sounds like you need to do the basic shop around the periphery of the grocery store and avoid the processed stuff in the middle. There are many veggies, most of which you can cook up nicely. You mentioned not being able to eat pork and fish. What about beef? Chicken? I remember being very tired while pregnant, but it does not take much energy to cook...
  20. My sentiments exactly. However, I like the idea of a gluten-free island nation! Unfortunately, I think it would soon suffer from over-population!
  21. In the U.S. the Fair Labor Standards Act mandates a half hour lunch (off the clock - you are free to go where you want and do what you want) if you work 6 hours or more. You are not required to take it but it is required to be offered. Most employers require you to take it because there is really no other way to prove to an auditor later that it was in...
  22. I'm so sorry to hear about your dad. I too have been down that painful road. As was said above, celiac is genetic so it would be best for you to become familiar with all the sneaky ways it makes itself known. You can always come back here for support and info.
  23. As no one yet knows all the implications and intricacies and causes and effects of celiac and/or gluten intolerance, I think researchers are going to have to go through a lot of mazes and down a lot of rabbit trails as part of the learning process. Most of them will probably wind up being dead ends ~ but not all of them. Given our rapidly changing world...
  24. Ignorant comments from the public at large are understandable. What is appalling to me is the ignorant comments from the two segments of society who should be the most aware: the medical profession and the food service industry.
  25. It definitely sounds like a possibility. I don't know what an ADHD diet is, but if you start reading in here for very long you will find post after post after post from parents whose children stopped exhibiting ADHD behavior when they went completely gluten free, or when gluten free plus soy / casein / whatever else was necessary free. You have...
