  1. To RiceGuy, Guhlia, and ravenwoodglass: Points well taken. However *IF* the new variety became the norm (note the big *IF*) then perhaps others in the future would not ever become as sick as you have been. It may be too late for you but perhaps, hopefully, not for others. The issue here (as I see it) is not how tasty your food is, not how well you...
  2. My husband almost missed a flight because of someone's tube of toothpaste. Remember that the shoebomber had enough explosives to blow up an airplane (ever see the video?) in a packet small enough to fit in the heal of his shoe. Yeah, it seem ridiculous at times, but evil twisted minds will stop at nothing to further their cause.
  3. You might want to print out some of the information (not anecdotal from here but from NIH and others) proving their statement is dangerously inaccurate, and send it to their headquarters. Too bad they can't be held accountable for spreading this wrong information.
  4. Let me just add that if you are finding it hard to find things to eat, you are probably still shopping in the center aisles of the grocery store. That is where the processed foods are, and yes, it can be difficult to find gluten free foods there. Shop around the edges where the naturally gluten-free fruits and veggies and meats are found. A frozen...
  5. Look at Trader Joe's. It isn't that bad and if it keeps you from getting sick it is well worth the extra dollar or two. That I can see. They are a bit pricey but you can bake bread without a bread maker. In fact one lady at my church had so much trouble adjusting to gluten-free bread making that she gave her bread maker away! If...
  6. Glad to see that you are well enough to post. That is GREAT news about the disability! As far as the THC goes, I believe the reason it was put into a pill form was not to reduce or eliminate the side effects such as getting high, but to eliminate the impurities and inconsistencies in the cultivated product, and not subject an already very sick person...
  7. You mentioned that you are preparing gluten-containing foods for the rest of the family. You are probably getting glutened from that. Do you use separate cooking and preparing utensils? Have you baked anything gluteny? From the Open Original Shared Link Contamination in Food Preparation When preparing gluten-free foods they must not come in...
  8. Buying bulk is terribly risky. You don't know what's in the air, where it was ground or how it got to be on display, what was in the container before whatever you are buying was put into it, and worst of all, scoops can play "musical containers" in the hands of ignorant shoppers. Better to buy spices in containers that were sealed in a controlled environment...
  9. I don't know about the rest of you, but I think I can hear The Hallelujah Chorus! This is great, not only for us, but for others because maybe they will never develop this condition and never have to be as sick as some of you have been.
  10. I grew up with La Choy. Then my Japanese/Chinese friend (who I figured ought to know!) told me that wasn't "real" soy sauce and I should use Kikkoman. So I did for the next 30-40 years or so (did I say that? ) until this gluten intolerance thing came along and disrupted things. I went back to La Choy and I am just fine with it.
  11. Unfortunately that is going to depend on the character qualities of the manager. Wouldn't you just love to be the (invisible so you didn't get swatted) fly on the wall so you really knew?
  12. It looks to me like the gluten free foods you are eating are still rather hard on the stomach. Raw fruit and nuts I would think could cause discomfort in a system that needed healing. Fatty fried bacon sounds really tasty but probably isn't easy to digest, either. Were the pretzels salty? Too much salt can cause discomfort. Try apple sauce instead...
  13. Try using PAM cooking spray. I think soy lecithin is the second ingredient listed on the label.
  14. Remember this is TOTALLY FALSE but should nevertheless gross you out enough to keep you from ever licking another envelope ever again! Open Original Shared Link Scroll a little more than half way down the page for the envelope version.
  15. Have your mom suggest to them that they bag the gluten free flours FIRST! If they are interested in the health and welfare of their customers, they should be able to make such a simple adjustment as that.
  16. I'm not a big cereal eater, but I do remember eating Berry Berry Kix and I really liked them! I definitely will look for the new box. Thanks for the heads up!
  17. POWDER????? I have only seen spray bottles. I didn't even know it ever came in a powder!
  18. Has anyone asked DQ if this is still how they do things? In the process of asking, let them know that if they still do this, they need to stop listing the product as gluten free. This could easily be another situation where they don't "connect the dots."
  19. What an encouraging post!
  20. God gave you an appendix, too, but that doesn't mean you shouldn't have it out when something goes terribly wrong with it! Gallbladder removal is now done as outpatient surgery.
  21. There may be a very few vending machines that still dispense a strip of gummed-adhesive postage stamps. Otherwise all U.S. postage stamps are self adhesive and have been for years.
  22. Can you visit the classroom and observe for a day? Being on "heightened alert" so to speak you might spot areas of concern for cc or something else that no one else would notice because they don't even think of it. I hope you get to the bottom of it, soon!
  23. For what it's worth, when I get those it usually means I need to drink more water. My guess is what happened to you may be the result of the high sodium content of what you ate. Be glad you could shout - sometimes mine hurt so bad I can't make any noise at all, which is probably a good thing as when it happens it is usually at night.
  24. She may not be absorbing nutrients from what she eats. Look either online or locally for a product called Benecalorie. It is gluten free and recommended for those who need to gain weight.
