  1. To those who prefer not to complain after being glutened, there are non-confrontational ways to let the management know what happened, and Jacob did this very well. This needs to be done for three reasons: 1) Someone's health and safety was compromised 2) If you don't tell the manager that something went wrong, they will assume that everything...
  2. This has concerned me about my local store, too. If your husband is willing to do it, I think it might be a good idea to at least talk to the store management. It could turn into an opportunity to train and educate a new group of people.
  3. Visit Open Original Shared Link site - you can print them out in several languages. It looks like if you have more than one food issue you may need to use what they have as a guide and create your own. Print them out and use as needed.
  4. I discovered this via the scenic route but thought someone might be interested in applying. Visit the Open Original Shared Link page, scroll through the alphabetical list and click on Gluten-Free Cooking. The list of requirements will appear to the right. The rest of the necessary info can be found through the links on the left side of the page...
  5. You said your daughter was diagnosed a month ago. That means she is not only new to this, but has medical documentation to back it up. Try to get the doctor to provide info to the in laws - maybe even take the future MIL to an appointment. Print out a bunch of things to show the future MIL - perhaps she just doesn't "get it" yet because it is all new to...
  6. Try eliminating anything containing brown rice or rice bran. It greatly reduces the breads and pastas you can eat, but "bran" from any source has become a four-letter-word for me!
  7. Ya just never know about that Easter Bunny! Congratulations!
  8. What jumped out to me was the rice puffs. If it's commercial off-the-shelf rice puffs such as Quaker, it isn't gluten free. There aren't many cereals that are gluten free. If he will eat rice, try Minute Rice. Brown rice may be more nutricious, but can be difficult to digest. There is always Benecalorie that you could mix into his food. If you can...
  9. I'm not Jewish, but I was wondering the same thing. How can rice crackers etc. save Passover if you are not supposed to eat rice during Passover?
  10. I think I see a pattern here. Those who think they know it all get really annoyed by and do NOT want to listen to those of us who really do know it all!
  11. Years ago a co-worker was seeing doctors for bone pain. After years of telling her it was arthritis - and nothing they gave her even touched the pain - they took x-rays. She had bone cancer head to toe, and didn't live even the 6 months they gave her. Just one of the many reasons I don't have Kaiser.
  12. Just anecdotal experience here, but I believe that more iodine than your body needs can cause skin problems - dh or otherwise. I was probably in my 30's or 40's (sorry - age and parenthood kind of blur the time line!) when I figured out that iodized salt made my face look like I was still in my teens. I figure I get enough iodine from seafood and...

    ARCHIVED Grrr

I second your rant! It seems like far too many doctors quit learning when they left med school, are totally burned out, and just want to get through the day by getting the patient out of the office in the allotted 15-20 minute time frame so the day is that much closer to being over. Are they going into medicine for all the wrong reasons or what...
  14. And when the print is in white on a dark background, it's even worse!
  15. The best kind of a new business to start is one that meets a need that is not already being met. The problem with Open Original Shared Link web site is it seeks to meet a need that is already being met, right here, and for free. For that reason her business model is doomed to fail. That doesn't make it a scam, but it would not be a wise use of your...
  16. Check my profile for what I use.
  17. I'm hoping that should read "pizza and macNcheese were her staples" She might reject her new diet at first, but she won't starve herself to death waiting for you to give in. Eventually she will just eat the new stuff because that's all there is, and sometime after that she will come to actually like it. (Yeah, right - easy for me to say! ) ...
  18. As Ursa said, "Meat, vegetables, fruits, fish are all naturally gluten-free! If you stick to the basics, you should not need to spend a lot more than before being diagnosed. Besides, in order to heal faster, you should do that anyway." I find things at Costco, WalMart, Ralph's, Von's, Trader Joe's, and Henry's. Search the forum for which brands...
  19. I thought it was very interesting that after stories began to fade from the nightly newscasts, I received several online surveys obviously being conducted by high-end pet food companies who were attempting to assess the damage caused by the revelation that everyone from these same high-end pet food companies to the cheapest supermarket discount brand bought...
  20. Costco chickens are fine ~ and less expensive that many of the others.
  21. Correct me if I am wrong, but I thought it had been documented that H. Pylori is the cause of stomach and duodenal ulcers, and does not go away without antibiotics. The only thing that will happen if you don't treat it is the ulcers will continue to get worse and flare up, and you will spend the rest of your life on antacids.
  22. There is a very bad cold going around. So far I have manage to miss everything in spite of infected family members and customers. I had a flu shot which helps boost the immune system, and I take sublingual B-12. But I think the most important reason is I use a lot of hand sanitizer. Lots, and often. Cold germs are spread hand to mouth rather than through...
  23. Thanks for the clarification. I may do that some time. The only time I have been in a Catholic church is for weddings and funerals. Otherwise I am in my church a LOT working with kids, on missions, choir, assorted projects - and worship service followed by Sunday school! We have communion the first Sunday of the month and always read the Scripture...
  24. Forgive my ignorance as I am not Catholic, but do you all share / drink from the same cup?
  25. Nice job, Lisa. Consider breaking it up into smaller sections and then submitting it to the online article sites such as Ezine Articles. Do an online search for "free articles" and you will find a boat load of sites. Most of these article directories have a "health" section. People who are looking for fresh content for their websites will pick...
