  1. My guess is your waitress was ridiculed relentlessly by other children as she was growing up and had an extremely painful childhood. That made her sensitive to the feelings of children who for one reason or another are "different" and cannot "blend in" and be like everybody else as kids want to do. So she let herself be vulnerable in front of total...
  2. For everyone's info (if you care!) luvs2eat is talking about a "Rural Carrier" position which differs a bit from a "City Carrier" position. If a Rural Carrier's route is determined to be 8

  4. Sigh. Too bad uv lights can't be "trained" to spot gluten! Can the uv lights find the pharmaceuticals mentioned in my above post? It really grosses me out that stuff peed and pooped by every person in the land and every beast of the field winds up untouched back in everyone's drinking water.
  5. I know the feeling and it can't be beat. BTW, Pamela's chocolate cake is wonderful.
  6. San Diego just started fluoridating drinking water. And in case anyone missed it, Open Original Shared Link
  7. When I was growing up, if you were too sick to go to school, you were too sick to play with friends or do other fun stuff. Period. No exceptions. I kept that rule when raising my daughter. Among other things, it helps kids to sort through how sick they really feel. It also helps you as a parent to spot patterns of not feeling well at school but coming...
  8. Just in case you haven't made up your mind yet . . . . Open Original Shared Link
  9. Have researchers actually purchased milk off the shelves in stores around the country (as we would) and tested it for gluten?
  10. If your daughter gets glutened again be ready with a tape recorder and discretely let it record her behavior. Make an appointment and make the doctor listen to the whole thing.
  11. "Soil based organisms" would be very tiny life forms living in the soil. I'm not so sure I would want to explore this too deeply, personally. I know for a fact that both of my grandmothers - both born in the late 1800's - washed the vegetables they grew. I also know for a fact that all the neighborhood dogs and cats (and probably coyotes) pee and...
  12. I grew up under the SeaTac Airport flight pattern, so I know what you mean. I don't know if the "joke" is still running, but when someone would ask "what do you do around here in the summer" the stock answer was "if it comes on the week-end we have a picnic.!" No joke, one summer (early - mid 60's I think) I did not wear shorts even once. Sorry I...
  13. Let me add my prayers for you as well. You must be beyond miserable. Hopefully the antibiotics will help the pain and the infection without worsening the "D" and an earlier appointment will open up for you ASAP. {{{ }}}
  14. A friend has an adult son who is and always has been anaphylactic to casein. I asked her where she went for info and she said that because he is part of a study by their insurance (Kaiser) she really doesn't do much internet research on the topic. (For other health issues in the family she digs long and deep, but not for that one.) Any time she or her...
  15. I had seen Lara Bars but always passed them by figuring they were "some weird health food thing" until my daughter bought a Lemon one, didn't care for it and gave it to me. (Never mind that it had a bite taken out of it - once a mom, always a mom! ) Anyway, it was wonderful! So I went to Trader Joe's and bought one of every flavor they had just to...
  16. Several in here have posted that school children are routinely tested for celiac in Italy. I can't imagine going to that expense and trouble if intolerance to gluten were not a major health issue.
  17. Some random thoughts while you recover: taking care of your health is NOT settling for second-best. It is putting yourself and your health first. Drugs and alcohol solve nothing. Don't go there. Do get tested for vitamin and mineral deficiencies. It's amazing what a difference that can make. Go outside and take a walk every day. Feel the sun...
  18. You have no idea how most postal workers hate that term. If you read the reports, more often than not it was a case if displaced aggression when the crazed person with a gun was angry at family members and took the anger out in the work place. Admittedly not always, but most of the time. Also, when a factory worker or a hairdresser or office manager does...
  19. I retired from the Postal Service after 33 years. I did not carry mail, but worked in facilities where carriers worked. I worked in retail and finance, and also supervised those areas. Stations are usually one huge room so everybody with a brain picks up a lot of info about the "other" craft - in this case letter carriers. Read my lips: at least...
  20. I can SO relate to your frustration! My daughter had whooping cough (!) at 9 months but no one would listen to me that something was seriously wrong because 1) she had been vaccinated and none of them realized the vaccine is not 100% effective and 2) she weighed 27 pounds so she couldn't possibly be sick! AARRGGGHHHHH! I diagnosed her from a Tel...
  21. I had also heard they were a sign of allergies, and mine have not (yet) gone away. Hmmmmm.
  22. Open Original Shared Link reminded me of something that has piqued my curiosity for awhile. I'm not sure where to post this so feel free to move it if you want. Anyway, everyone seems to universally agree that if a mom (meaning human mom) eats food containing gluten, it winds up in her breast milk. As milk from cows and goats is in a way mother...
  23. This is EXACTLY the same issue with my above-mentioned friend! For whatever reason, sometimes otherwise educated and intelligent people just don't "connect the dots" and so they don't "get it." Keep reminding yourself that Patience Is A Virtue as you explain it again.
  24. Excuse my brutality here, but "too bad." You need to get every trace of gluten out of your house ASAP and cook gluten-free from now on. It won't kill them to eat healthy, but it will kill you not to. Can they not see how sick you are? If they think they "have" to have their favorite pizza or something, let them eat it at the restaurant and then...
  25. Along with the picture recommendations above, make a list and give several copies of it to her personally, at a face to face meeting because she apparently still doesn't "get it." Some people - particularly busy ones with no prior gluten intolerance knowledge or experience - need multiple reminders. (I have a friend like this - she is starting to get it...
