  1. I'm definitely bookmarking this thread as I grew up in the Seattle area (Des Moines) and have been known to go "home" once in a while!
  2. "Long ago and far away . . " as in almost 20 years ago and pre-gluten-free, I worked for WW for 10 years. Since then the plan has changed countless times, but I'm sure it is still essentially "eat quality nutritious food and not too much of it!" A co-worker recently became a lecturer. I think I might talk to her about it. It wouldn't hurt me to...
  3. Just curious here. The only thing discussed as actual physical food in John chapter 6 are manna and barley loaves. The definition (or translation) of the word "manna" is "What is it?" because according to tradition that is what the Hebrews said when they came out of their tents that first morning and found it all over everything for them to gather up...
  4. I have found this thread fascinating. It has reinforced much of what I already realized. For instance: A lot of people have very strong personal religious convictions. Some church doctrines - including but not limited to Canon Law - sometimes deviate from Scripture. If you don't currently own a Bible, they can be found in any bookstore at a very...
  5. Charcoal? I don't even see an ingredient list! Do you know which brands? ACK!
  6. Soy sauce could definitely be a problem. LaChoy is gluten-free and even though some here on the board don't care for it, I have gotten used to it. I would really hate to give up soy sauce! Restaurants could be a problem also unless you jump through all the hoops others have discussed. If you are not taking all the precautions, then you are probably...
  7. My Mom used to say we were Heinz 57! But that meant essentially northern and western Europe, including Irish, but also English, German, and Swiss on her side, and Norwegian and Welsh in my Dad's side.
  8. This is what I got today from GlaxoSmithKline, the makers of Sensodyne: Thank you for contacting us regarding Sensodyne
  9. Sigh. I was hoping people would know that! Maybe I should point out that the purpose of this experiment is not to make make gluten safe to eat, it is to avoid - or at least greatly lessen - the possibility of getting cc'd from processing equipment, pots and pans, wooden spoons, counter tops colanders, stuff like that. If it could be shown that...
  10. I agree that a picture could be helpful as people who share a certain health issue or congenital condition often have a certain "look" to them that is hard to put into words but instantly recognizable when seen. I hope that drawing is useful for SCookie!
  11. It has been far too long since I took chemistry, but I imagine you could isolate the protein, put it into a flask or a petrie dish or some other chemistry lab container and just subject it to controlled versions of all the above mentioned abuse. Then see what happens! This definitely falls into the "don't try this at home" category and I hope I didn't...
  12. What you are describing sounds to me like there is something going on in your son that could be better. Putting him on a gluten-free diet certainly can't hurt. If "PRC" means what I think it does you should be able to do that without too many problems. Let us know how it goes.
  13. QUOTE (ravenwoodglass @ Jan 10 2008, 08:25 AM) To safely feed your celiac patrons you need to: 1. Cook their food on a clean pan 2. Make sure that utensils are used only for that food That means you cannot cut bread and lettuce and tomatoes and fruit or anything else with the same knife or on the same surface. 3. Make sure if water glasses...
  14. When I was a customer service supervisor, I would on occasion get calls from people who would begin, "I don't want to get anybody into trouble, but . . . . ." I always told them that nobody was going to get into trouble, and if customers don't tell us there is a problem, we think everything is just fine! With that in mind, load up on as much...
  15. I think the best I can give is a combination of "listen to your patients" and "connect the dots." Most people know their bodies quite well. We are not stupid, not matter what education we have or do not have. If you think we are wrong, prove it. Don't make us prove to you that we are right, and don't just blow us off. I have heard that doctors are...
  16. I am posting this here and in the "Teens" section and asking the moderators to make it a "sticky" for at least a while for maximum exposure. I am still kinds new here but have seen anecdotal reports that there are at least 3 things that might - just might - disable the gluten protein. Those three things are: Whatever it is that makes sourdough...

  18. I'm here, too. I just recently discovered that we have quite a resource "right here in River City" at UCSD. Check it out! Open Original Shared Link
  19. I'm so sorry.
  20. I don't know where you are, but here in Southern California they're kind hard to miss! I get mine at Ralphs, which is owned by Kroger, and they are located prominently on an endcap. I have heard, however, that in some parts of the country, decent Mexican food is basically not available so you might have to keep searching. Try asking the...
  21. Here is a link to a short bio about a local television personality who was diagnosed with Lyme in 1995. Pay attention especially to the second paragraph. That is nasty stuff! Open Original Shared Link I remember watching part of an interview a while back. She related that she went to bed feeling perfectly fine with no symptoms whatsoever...
  22. " What Do You Do When You Realize You Are Eating Something Bad?" I immediately stop eating it and take at least one GlutenEase capsule. Continuing to eat something you know isn't good for you and will make you sick - or even sicker - just doesn't seem like a good idea to me. Depending on what else you have eaten during the day, and...
  23. Isn't is amazing that companies pay money to buy unnecessary ingredients to add to a product which then eliminates hundreds of thousands of what would have been paying customers? It's just incredible how they don't get it that they could save money by not adding that stuff and make money by attracting more customers! Sheesh.
  24. What kind of pop corn were - and are - you eating? Plain? Microwave? Movie? That stuff that comes in the decorated Christmas tins? Plain is OK. Everything else is suspect. I learned early on that the stuff that comes in the decorated Christmas tins is a major no-no.
