  1. Hmmm, I am not familiar with any brands over there. When I went to Europe (Spain and Portugal) I just looked at their grocery store, in the health section, for gluten-free goods. Then, I would carry them with me. When I travel in the US, I usually bring my own food too or stick to fruit and veggies (which can be bought anywhere). Sorry I can't be more...
  2. It is great to hear how well you are doing! It takes a good while for your body, mentally and physically, to get it's game together. You have to recover form years of damage. Personally, I feel like I have to watch my body much more carefully than I did before my diagnosis. It is worth it, though, to be feeling better. Welcome to the forum!
  3. Those in Philly are lucky!
  4. I have never really been to a Tim Horton's. However, I have never had an issue with normal drinks at any restaurant/bar. I wouldn't go for anything involving a mixer or blender, though. If you are feeling iffy, then stick to your instincts and have a water or nothing. Enjoy the conversation and eat before or after.
  5. Hello! I am sorry to hear about your phobias. Not everyone needs to be officially diagnosed, so, you may just want to do an elimination diet to see the results and prove to yourself that different foods were the issue. Some doctors accept that, but there are also stool tests that you can order. You do have to eat gluten to take any tests. It is really...
  6. Hello and welcome to the forum! Yes, you need to be eating gluten in order to have accurate test results. However, if you are not totally gluten-free, then you should be fine as long as you are eating gluten before, and at the time, of the tests. If you are doing the elimination diet, though, then you need to be 100% off the things making you ill....
  7. Well, it depends on what you are eating and how much. What you describe doesn't sound like anything to be worried about. If you were having tummy aches and having to rush to the bathroom, then that is different.
  8. That is an excellent question. I know some people use teas or peppermint depending on their symptoms. For me, I get diarrhea and don't like to take anything so that my body can get it all out. Your body is reacting for a reason and with the symptoms you describe I can't think of something to help off the top of my head. What did you do before you were...
  9. That is great for your son! I am glad the diet is working!
  10. Is your only symptom tiredness? As in sleepy all the time or normal, overloaded sleepy? I can only speak from my experience and that of my family. I had symptoms that were not too pleasant and started to impose on my daily actions. So, the choice was obvious. My Mother, on the other hand, had mostly symptoms of joint pain and migraines. She was loaded...
  11. I can't remember ever seeing a sugar labeled as strictly gluten-free but have never had a problem with any brands that I have used. I would suggest phoning different companies to find out if you want to know for sure. If you look at Domino Sugar's products, there is nothing that should have gluten. I have only seen their Baltimore facility and am pretty...
  12. That sounds kind of just like PMS. Did you have different symptoms of it before going gluten-free?
  13. My suggestion would be to go back on the gluten-free diet, especially if you are pregnant. That would probably help with you symptoms.
  14. I don't think there is. You can make your own and use veggies here and there. The possibilities are endless, really.
  15. I am a gluten-free vegan, too. It takes awhile to get the gluten-free thing down, just as it does the vegan thing. You can still eat lots of things you like, just home-made or substituted differently. There are flours that are rice free, at least! What i did was just eat naturally gluten-free things until I learned the ropes. It is better to be limited...
  16. You should write them or even call! That is really ridiculous.
  17. I am sorry about your kittykins. It will hurt for awhile, I know.
  18. Eh, since you have no feelings about not eating meat then it shouldn't matter if you do or don't. I won't ever go back to eating animals due to ethical reasons and I have never once craved them. Good luck on your gluten-free diet.
  19. There are a lot of gluten-free food options in Spain. El Corte Ingles has a gluten-free section and there are even little stores that sell mostly gluten-free food. I found at least 2 little shops in Barcelona that had stuff. I can't answer about the dairy since I am a vegan, but you can always contact companies like you would in the US. I called a Spanish...
  20. You guys must not have tried the newer Enger-G breads. 5 years ago you could break a tooth. . .now I buy the Light Tapioca and it is great! I am betting it was a formula change.
  21. My Dentist brought out the ingredients for everything when I had a routine cleaning and there was nothing in them gluten wise. I am pretty sure flour is not used keep latex gloves from sticking together.
  22. I made muffins for class once (my Professor has Celiacs, too!). I am vegan and a calorie counter and my boyfriend is all over the amount of fat we eat. So, I do a lot of substitutions to things like muffins and cookies like apple sauce instead of butter, lower fat soy milk, less chocolate chips, and so on. Good luck and have fun!
  23. Let's see, I always make sure to use a clean rag when I wash my pans (most have to be hand washed). We don't share anything that has to be hand washed. We keep anything that can cross-contaminate separate: his bread in the pantry and mine in the box on the counter. In the fridge and pantry we have our own spaces. I never put my food directly on the countertop...
  24. I hope your little one feels better soon and starts acting himself. Just hang in there and it will pass!
  25. What makes oats not gluten-free is cross-contamination. So, technically they are not using gluten ingredients but unless manufactured in a dedicated facility, the oats do have gluten on them. It is a fine line and they should defiantly not say they are gluten-free if they have cross-contaminated oats.
