  1. #1 -- NEVER go by things that SAY "Dairy Free" "Dairy Free" creamers, "Dairy free" whipped toppings...all have dairy (usually casein) in them. You are going to have to read the labels. I see very few things in "normal" stores with goats milk. The HFS usually have them marked.
  2. I'm starving. OK, we have done the gluten-free before - it was OK. We just got test results back and need to be strict gluten-free again. That also included no shellfish, no milk products, no eggs, no peanuts, no almonds, and none of the gluten products including oats. We haven't even got all the kid's results back in yet. I'm pretty must used to a...
  3. I ate them until I found out I was allergic to them. My wheat free little guy just followed me since that is just easier in this house and his rash cleared up.
  4. My DH goes to the dr for a bad cough. He had had it for a couple weeks and it was not going away. Dr examines him, talks to him and leaves the room. Dh calls me on the cell and says "Viagra isn't for coughs, is it??". I told him to grab his cough Rx and get out of there! That dr must be getting some kind of kickback because he tried to get...
  5. Sooooooooooooo not true. My prick test showed everything negative. I have severe IgE reactions to both shellfish and milk.
  6. I've been married for 15 years and my husband still does not know what protein, carbs, dairy, wheat are all in. He tries but he just doesn't get it. He can now catch the obvious -- bread, milk -- and is now catching less obvious - pizza, mac/cheese. You need to simplify the language a little more. I know purists will groan but maybe say "wheat and...
  7. I have too many stupid dr stories so I will stick with the latest. I went to the dr for woman issues. He said it was because I'm a little overweight. OK, whatever. We proceeded to discuss my diet -- no wheat, no this, no that. He then puts me on this specialized diet. I tell him it is only 1 ingredient different than what I'm on and I don't think...
  8. Ask your naturopath if this is a true (ige) allergy test or if it is a sensitivity test. I just had something like you described done and am waiting for results. You are NOT going to have anaphylaxis (bad allergic reaction) to anything that scores high on this test. These show the more subtle aches and pains that you only notice when you eliminate after...
  9. No matter what issue you have, you have to go into the hospital/dr having educated yourself about what is going on. Mom went into a dr asking for thyroid meds (her dr died and I don't know if his practice died or what??) but the dr with all her med students around proceeded to tell them how there was nothing wrong with her thyroid and how this and that mimics...
  10. Happy birthday and may God bless you today!

  11. Yes I cheat. I am not a high targeted member in the family for this diet. However with my cheats I am learning that gluten is not my friend either. With this last cheat I have pretty much convinced myself that I need to be more dedicated.
  12. In my family I'm not the possible celiac, autistic or wheat allergic so I decided to have me a sandwich at a store this weekend. I am now having a hemorrhoid flare up. I have not had a flare up since going gluten free with my guys. I thought I may have a mild problem with gluten but not this much. My Enterolab results were on the border but it was the...
  13. doesn't that sound like, "ahhh...one little bite won't hurt..."?
  14. From what I have read gluten (along with milk and soy) are not being prepared like they were in the older days which is why they are causing more and more problems. Wheat/gluten at one time when through the process (like real sourdough) where the enzymes worked the proteins before they were prepared into foods. This made them much easier to digest (and...
  15. Lactose intolerance will not fall under allergy testing. Lactose intolerance deals with issues digesting the sugar. Allergy involves protein, usually but not restricted to casein. For lactose intolerance there is a blood test or a breath test. I have not participated in either test and I don't know the accuracy. For traditional allergies, you could...
  16. I haven't done it. My family would feel free to make substitutions. "I don't know where to buy Bob's oats, these here in the bulk bin will work the same." or then there is the aunt who gets her nose out of joint "What!?! You are saying that I don't clean my utensils good enough for you?!? I take great care in cleaning my highly porous flour utensil...
  17. Have you ever checked out the web site for Aspies called "Wrong Planet"?? I have 2 Aspies and it has helped get a clue to their mental wiring. I don't think either of my 2 would have been happy on a camping trip. Come to think of it, all 3 of mine would be in the hotel room with mommy if daddy ever tried to get them to camp out.
  18. I tried some in some cupcake frosting. It was heavenly!
  19. Thanks for the suggestions. I may even have to try some bread in the crockpot.
  20. It is too hot to bake or do a lot of stovetop cooking during this heat wave. We are tired of chef's salad. What can you suggest?!?!?!? (gluten, casein, nut free)
  21. I have always subbed with straight soy milk (I so use sweetened, vanilla). No one has ever noticed the difference.
  22. All flours are not created equal - not in taste, not in performance... an all purpose blend is a blend to as closely match regular flour as possible. There are other blends -- some more suitable for sweets, some for breads... a single flour (rice) is not going to perform in most recipes like regular flour. The reason you think the Bob's tastes funny in...
  23. If I were starting it all again, I would do both at once. Then if at some point you want to add milk back in, do so. IMO it is mentally easier to take it all out then test 1 at a time rather than take 1 out at a time and still not be there.
  24. I slur with dairy. I've been accused of being drunk when it was only a slice of cheese or a little milk.
  25. My suggestion would be for right now to eat foods that are naturally gluten free and don't try to sub. Right now even the best subs are not going to taste good because you are going to expect the "old" taste of your flour favorite. After a while start adding in stuff here and there. It will eventually work out. There are still going to be mistakes...
