ARCHIVED The First Three Weeks Of Pregnancy....
mommyagain replied to tiffjake's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
Did the doctor know that you suspected that you were pregnant when prescribing the naproxen? When I almost broke my foot, I was told that the only pain reliever I should take while pregnant is Tylenol. I just did a quick search on naproxen and pregnancy and found this from drugs.com: "FDA pregnancy category C. This medication may be harmful to an unborn... -

Some vodka is grain based. Originally, vodka was potato based, but it's cheaper (here in the US) to make it from grain than potato, and most people can't tell the difference. So, if you need your vodka, find one that is potato based, and you might be ok. You also may have problems with dairy, lots of celiacs do. Is there a specific beverage that contains... -

ARCHIVED Gluten Free For A Month And A Half, Casein Free For 2 Weeks...

What form is your "plenty of corn" in? Some people have problems digesting whole corn kernals, but no problems with corn that's been mashed up. For instance, I can eat corn chips and corn tortillas til they come out my ears... but if I'm eating corn on the cob, I need to limit myself to 1 ear or I have problems. I think that it may have to do with how... -
ARCHIVED Only 8 Weeks And Showing! A Lot!
mommyagain replied to mommyagain's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
Well, considering that I was on birth control when I got pregnant, it's possible. But, at my 1st OB appt, the doc checked my uterus and said that it "felt" about 6 weeks. As far as the multiples go, I was a triplet and had twin brothers... so the genes are definitely there... but, I DON'T WANT TWINS!!! AACK! I do know a lot of people who "show... -
This isn't really celiac related, but I am freaking out! With my first pregnancy, I did not show at all until ~6 months. I had gained about 8lbs over the first 6 months, but I just looked like I was a little chubby, no bump at all. This time, my belly is HUGE, and I'm only 8 weeks!!! I started out a lot thinner before the 1st too, I was 125lbs pre-pregnancy...

ARCHIVED Dealing With My Mother....
mommyagain replied to LoveBeingATwin's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
I totally belive that my parents have neurologic issues, and I wish I could help them get better. But, I can't help them, and they refuse to get help. When I am around them, I get sick. When my daughter was a baby (back when we were still talking), I refused to allow them unsupervised visits with her because I didn't trust them. My father is an alcoholic... -
Here is my husband's policy: The first time you make a special request of your waitstaff and it is granted, give the person who made it happen a tip ($5 if they really had to go out of their way or $1-2 if it was pretty easy). That makes the person receiving the tip realize that you are willing to pay well for good service, and the remaining waitstaff on...

See, I haven't been in the celiac world long enough to know who's legit and who's not... For me, the final answer was that I ate there, everyone was extremely helpful/knowledgable, and I DID NOT GET SICK!!!

Well, I surprised my hubby last night by saying that I wanted to go to Carrabba's! He had figured that since it was an Italian place, it would be totally off limits. So, we went and I got the gluten-free Chicken Trio, broccoli, and a salad. I forgot to mention to the waiter to have them mix it in a clean bowl. When the waiter brought it, he said...

Actually, it SHOULD matter! Sure, don't choose a Liberal Arts school if you want to be an Engineer just because you like the dining options. But, finding a school that will meet your needs academically AND nutritionally is important. You won't be able to take advantage of the academics if you're always sick because there is nothing for you to eat. Also...

My trick is to include protein EVERY time I eat something. I have found that if I get that shaky feeling, something with sugar (like OJ) will help, but I need to follow it with protein or I crash again. I keep strips of grilled chicken breasts in my lunch box, as well as a variety of cheeses and fruit. Then, when I get hungry, I'll have a small piece of...

Carrabba's used to be one of our absolute favorite restuarants, until I went gluten-free. Since then I've been really scared to eat out. So, when I heard that Carrabba's had a gluten-free menu, I had to check it out. A lot of the stuff looked pretty yummy, but the disclaimer worries me. I understand that they are just trying to cover their a$$es, but...

Awesome article! It doesn't make us look like total freaks! And, I had no idea that Carrabba's Italian Grill had a gluten-free menu! That used to be one of our favorite restaurants!

ARCHIVED Dealing With My Mother....
mommyagain replied to LoveBeingATwin's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
I've also had major problems with my parents. They are simply bad people, and I want nothing to do with them. So, about 6 years ago, we had a major fight and we haven't been in contact since. The funny thing is that I used to get migraines all the time, like 2 or 3 a week. I have not had a SINGLE migraine since we stopped talking. In addition, my ulcer... -

Goo Gone is WONDERFUL!!! The only problem I ever had with it was trying to remove sticker residue from a white shirt after it had gone through the washer and dryer. The Goo Gone left a slightly yellowis oily stain that I can't get out. It is so faint that noone except me even notices it, and white is the only color that this will happen on. But, the stain... -
ARCHIVED I'm Only Symptomatic When I'm Pregnant
mommyagain replied to mommyagain's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
From CDC page: "A person with listeriosis has fever, muscle aches, and sometimes gastrintestinal symptoms such as nausea or diarrhea. If infection spreads to the nervous system, symptoms such as headache, stiff neck, confusion, loss of balance, or convulsions can occur." Wonderful, those are almost exactly the symptoms I have when I get glutened, except... -
ARCHIVED Foods To Pack For On-the-go Lunches?
mommyagain replied to amberleigh's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
If you're just going out for a few hours (or can put a very small cooler in the bag with an ice pack) you could take cheese and meat rolled up inside a lettuce leaf (or just meat if you're dairy free). I often use leftover chicken for this, it tastes fine cold, and it doesn't look too "strange" because that's what a lot of low-carb dieters eat. I like to... -
I forgot to mention the flourless chocolate cake! Make sure you double-check the recipe, and when you talk to the chef or food manager, see if they'll make you one in an uncontaminated pan. It is WONDERFUL! It is my husband's favorite dessert on the ship, and he can eat anything he wants! If you beg enough, you may even be able to get it as an alternate...

Dinners you should be fine. You will have the same "team" every night and they will do everything they can to keep you happy (and healthy). The problems may come with other meals and snacks. To be safe, you will probably need to stay away from the buffets, and just stick with meals in the dining room, and room service. But, for breakfast and lunch in...

ARCHIVED Guys (a Question For Girls)
mommyagain replied to num1habsfan's topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
Like tom said, don't mention it until you absolutely HAVE to. Like, if a guy invites you out for pizza, just say "Sorry, I'm allergic to anything with wheat, would you mind going to ____ instead?" Most teenage guys will at least understand allergies, but don't wanna deal with a "disease". Eventually you may find it necessary to explain the disease, but... -
ARCHIVED Is Corn Safe?
mommyagain replied to xxndnromeoxx's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I do okay with stuff made from corn meal (corn chips, bread, etc) but WHOLE corn kernals go through me like wheat, except the poo doesn't have that classic "gluten-poo" look. I've also heard non-celiacs talk about "corn-poo" and I'm assuming they have the same issue. For me, gluten causes D for a day or two along with a few days of abdominal pain (pain... -
I've been on the Neevo's for 3 days now, and haven't had problems. I just added the Expecta last night and had a gluten response about 20 minutes later Unfortunately, there is a chance that I got glutened from cross-contamination, so it may have been a coincidence. But, I'm going to skip the Expecta for a day or two, then try adding it back with a day...

ARCHIVED Outback! My First Good Restaurant Experience In A Month!
mommyagain posted a topic in Gluten-Free Restaurants
My husband suggested going out for dinner earlier this evening and I reacted with my usual "uhhh... I dunno" and he said "Let's try Outback, you said they have a gluten-free menu". So, before we went, I printed out the menu from their website, and was pleased to note that some of my all-time favorites are gluten-free. Although I was kind of bummed to... -
My doc just put me on Neevo (says right on the box that it's gluten free!). I just took my 1st one, so I don't know yet if it's gonna make me vomit, or get me glutened... I'll update later today Anyway, she said that I also need to add DHA (fatty acid usually found in fish?). She had one called Expecta (made by Enfamil - the formula maker) but could...
