  1. A few months ago, after eating polish dill pickles, I became violently ill. Now, my whole family wound up getting sick (not from the pickles) so I figured the indigestion I got a few hours prior to being up all night with vomiting and D wasn't related to the pickles. But then, a few weeks later, I got the same indigestion: feeling "burpy," stomach churning...
  2. Do you find that you have to go urgently? because I have noticed that I have something similar to this when CC'd: it's solid and very long, and I REALLY have to go all of a sudden. I sometimes also have a bit of gas or discomfort but not always. That said, I think everyone's normal is different.
  3. Oh well, as yummy as they are, a $4 latte that's loaded with sugar and caffeine is probably not the best idea for my wallet or waistline I have friends with starbucks addictions that spend hundreds of dollars a year on their coffee it's always been a special treat for me, but eh, it's ok
  4. I've taken it. It's gluten-free, but I have major issues with breakthrough bleeding as well, and this pill didn't do me any good. But everyone's different, so it's certainly worth a try.
  5. while I too am slightly wary of enterolab as far as their antibody testing, I would say it is worth it for the genetics. I was diagnosed through genetics (I have the DQ2 gene, a celiac gene) which, combined with my symptoms and reaction to the diet, was enough for my GI to diagnose me. However, I was tested through prometheus (as the doctor ordered),...
  6. Well I'm now on nuvaring so we''ll see how that works out, but the gyno said it may be time to consider surgery for the endometriosis arghh it's frustrating. But I'm hoping this works, as my next option is to go on lupron and basically put my body into pseudomenopause...which I'd rather not do at 17... oh and i'm not on the pill for contraception,...
  7. Yesterday was Rosh Hashanah, and I specifically asked my family what we would be doing for lunch and if I should bring food. They told me not to worry, they'd make sure to find something. Well, we wound up going to a catered luncheon at a family friend's house. Typcal jewish menu: lox and bagels, kugel, potato pancakes, and desserts galore. It was buffet...
  8. Hello all, I have had issues with my period since I started (rather late at 14, compared with 11 for all of the other women in my family...now I'm almost 17). I only had three real periods the first year or so, with several episodes of a few days of light spotting. I had really uncomfortable cramps as well, so I went to the gyno. She diagnosed me with endometriosis...
  9. yesterday my mom found premade gluten-free crusts in the normal grocery store... right next to the normal boboli crusts! They weren't even frozen, and in my convection oven I had pizza in about 10 minutes. Here's the website: Open Original Shared Link. and yes, they are made in a dedicated facility.
  10. Open Original Shared Link here, this might help. I'm a girl cout and just whipped out my order form but it may vary from region to region, I know they use different bakeries for the cookies. This is for CT at least, idk about anywhere else. ask your local girl scout to check her order form, it gives a link for allery/nutrition info. edit: oh whoops...
  11. Yeah the couple that own it are really nice, she used to teach english at my old middle school. The store's about 10 minutes from me
  12. Crock pots are your friends! They make a TON of food really fast (well, not fast, but a single batch can be several days or weeks worth of food), and then you can freeze single-serve portions. You can make literally almost anything in there, and you can definitely have plenty of variety. Make a few weeks worth before your surgery. You can then microwave one...
  13. no way!!! I can't tell you how many times I have craved chocolate and wanted a quick and easy recipe like this...now if only if were calorie free! lol
  14. There is a new (I think it's new anyway) envirokidz cereal called penguin crunch or puffs or something like that. I was at whole foods today picking out a new cereal (always arduous) and this looked good, so I decided ot give it a try. I didn't notice the gluten-free label usually on those cereals, but I didn't sweat it, b/c a quick scan of the ingredients...
  15. The eater's manifesto is also good...it's by the same author. ick.
  16. I am a high school senior in the process of applying to schools. So far we've asked someone about gluten-free possibilities in the dining halls everywhere we've visited, and I've always gotten a very strong positive response. Some schools seem to automatically offer gluten-free options (Skidmore had glutino cereal out) and others have it on hand if you ask...
  17. I have a cousin with egg, nut, and dairy allergies, and for her birthday, we always did a sorbet cake. I think we got it premade, but I'm sure you could make your own if you softened sorbet in a cake pan, froze it, and decorated it!
  18. I've made 7-minute icing from just egg whites, boiling water, and plain sugar (not even powdered!) It tastes a little bit like marshmellow fluff and it better for you than your average icing. The jist of it is that you add boiling h20 to the sugar and egg white mixture and beat it with a mixer for 7 minutes. look online for an exact recipe. I think the one...
  19. WOOHOO!!! gluten-free pizza in CT...finally! Unfortunately I'm from the wrong side of the state, but we make pretty frequent trips to your neck of the woods to visit my grandparents in NY. YAY!!!!!!
  20. good to know! I also react to barley worse than wheat...my reaction ever pre DX came from a sandwhich on rye bread with barley soup...can you say gluten overload? but barley def. makes me sickest. however I have a celiac friend who has almost no reaction to barley (confirmed by bloods and repeat endo) and intentionally eats a little sometimes (not that...

    ARCHIVED Montauk

You won't. Pretty much the only grocery store over there is an IGA. There are no specialty health food stores or the like. I would reccomend putting it in a cooler with ice. Where are you coming from? I used to go to montauk every summer, and I love it there. However, I have not been since going gluten-free. Here is a thread on gluten-free restaurants...
  22. My mom gets that reaction from garlic and onions. She has for years, it's completely unrelated to gluten. That could be a factor.
  23. Hi! I have an off-the-track TB mare, 8 years old...we got her from UConn's auction, they tried to make her into a polo pony which terrorized her, so she's definitely been a project horse. I've never had a problem gluten-wise with her, my mom feeds her grain, and I'm just careful about not touching my face and washing my hands as soon as I come in from...
  24. I started a month before my 14th birthday, and all hell broke loose from there. My periods were 3-5 months apart, and I got debilitating cramps and a heavy flow. I went on birth control when I was 15 and this helped a lot, although it took a LOT of experimenting to find the right pill. But I do think a lot of these issues could have been celiac-related. I...
  25. woohoo! and I was excited to find larabars and greek yogurt at laguardia (for about $5 each!)
