ARCHIVED New To This, What Am I Missing ?
GFinDC replied to Tbolt47's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Hi Tbolt, Six months is pretty early to be symptom free. But that doesn't mean it isn't worth trying for! A simple diet is very helpful at first. No processed foods or only safe processed foods. A few things I consider safe are Mission brand corn tortillas, Corn Thins, Food Should Taste Good Chips (gluten-free). Frozen foods are safer than canned... -

Thanks for the link Analog. That's good she finally got help. Too bad it took so long for someone to try gluten-free on her though. -
ARCHIVED Ugh I Got Very Sick
GFinDC replied to pixiegirl's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Ah yes, those poor little brain frogs, they always get the blame! Now coffee, that's just brain frog fertilizer if you ask me. Maybe some creatine will scare them away? https://www.celiac.com/forums/topic/102374-creatine-for-vegans-and-vegetarians/ -
ARCHIVED New To gluten-free, Question Please Help
GFinDC replied to NicoleMT's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Hi NicoleMt, Welcome to the forum! Your excema may actually be a celiac disease symptom. Search and read up on dermatitis herpetiformis, often called DH on this forum. There is a section of the forum dedicated to it. It is a skin rash that only people with celiac disease get. They can take a biopsy sample of the skin next to a DH lesion to test... -
ARCHIVED Creatine For Vegans And Vegetarians...
GFinDC replied to GFinDC's topic in Food Intolerance & Leaky Gut
Well, getting older is better than the alternative I guess! Since you have diabetes you should probably do some research on creatine and diabetes before taking it. I found this one article on Livestrong which seems positive. Open Original Shared Link Creatine and Kidneys Creatine supplements in low dosages, 5 to 10 grams per day, are beneficial... -
ARCHIVED Ugh I Got Very Sick
GFinDC replied to pixiegirl's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
OK, I think we are just using different words. You are saying citrus is derived from corn. What I think you mean to say is ascorbic acid (vitamin C) is derived from corn. That makes sense, since vitamin C can be processed from glucose. Per the all-knowing Wiki that is. Open Original Shared Link Open Original Shared Link Agree, I think... -
ARCHIVED All 4 Markers Positive.....
GFinDC replied to GDLions's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Well, it would be helpful if you got the lab reports and posted them along with the ranges. IMHO, if the antibodies are positive, there is not likely to be a different cause for that. Antibodies to gliaden are specific to that protein. Some of the tests are very specific, like the DGP. But, most doctors want the endoscopy anyway before they will diagnose...- 6 replies

ARCHIVED Ugh I Got Very Sick
GFinDC replied to pixiegirl's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
People getting sick from eating salad greens is in the news fairly often it seems to me. Not people with celiac disease, but just people in general. There have been repeated instances of contamination of vegetables making people sick. I don't know if that's what happened of course, but it wouldn't be a big surprise. This consumer reports story is a couple... -
ARCHIVED Creatine For Vegans And Vegetarians...
GFinDC replied to GFinDC's topic in Food Intolerance & Leaky Gut
Wow, that's a bad doctor! I guess he subscribes to the fight fire with fire theory. Using one medical problem to treat another medical problem. Not so smart. Maybe the creatine didn't do anything for you Julie, I don't know. They say it takes a couple weeks for it to have an affect on muscles. I saw that Jarrow formulas does make capsules in a smaller... -
ARCHIVED Creatine For Vegans And Vegetarians...
GFinDC replied to GFinDC's topic in Food Intolerance & Leaky Gut
Hi Julie, Here's a link to a U MD article on creatine. Creatinine is a different thing. Open Original Shared Link The kind I have is made by Twinlab, and it comes in a capsule. It is called Creatine Fuel. There are more brands out there, I just don't know which are capsules vs a powder. The Twinlab version I have doesn't list any diary in... -
ARCHIVED Creatine For Vegans And Vegetarians...
GFinDC posted a topic in Food Intolerance & Leaky Gut
This is a link to an article about a study showing that some vegan and vegetarian females had improved mental performance on some mental tasks after taking creatine. Open Original Shared Link Seems creatine is used by the brain as part of it's energy supply. The body can make creatine but it seems the process is not as efficient as taking it in through... -

Side tracking a bit @Dianer, Hi Diana, you can always make your own crayon's if you are worried about them. Just melt some wax and add a colorant of some sort. Even instant coffee would work. Use a hard wax if you like hard crayons. Softer wax like beeswax if you like them soft. Wax is a really good insulator/sealer. It locks things in and prevents... -
ARCHIVED My Brother Possibly Has Celiac But Is Dragging His Feet On Diagnosis
GFinDC replied to Jamie1450's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
You could tell him about the increased risk of developing other autoimmune diseases for untreated celiacs. Search on "celiac associated condition" or related condition. -
Well, if you figure out the mind over money thing, do let us know! T-would be a handy talent to have. Hopefully the doctor will find some answers for you. If not I am sure he will refund your fee, not!

Hi Nicole, Maybe you should try eliminating the new vitamins and pills for a week to see if there is a relationship to the new symptoms. Just in case ya know. Digestive system stuff and parts. Open Original Shared Link

Hi HD, There is no food diary sharing thread that I know of. We do have threads where people talk about what they ate for breakfast, lunch and dinner. Not really a diary though. The value is probably not great in doing it anyway. The foods that I react to can be totally different foods from what you might react to. So, not really very useful. Some...

ARCHIVED Gluten Was Causing Schizo Problems
GFinDC replied to CanineGluten's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Hi Dawn, The thread on short temper might be interesting to you. You can do a search on gluten ataxia and find information about how gluten can affect the brain. Also there is the theory that gluten can interact like opium with some brain recepters. And pshizophrenia seems to be related in some people also. So, gluten seems to be able to affect people... -

ARCHIVED Is Okay To Self Diagnose?
GFinDC replied to freeme808's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
OK, moving over for Lieesur. Geez Leesur, slow down a little some days! Hi Freeme, For what it's worth, I think it makes sense to go ahead and do the endoscopy, since you have it available. Sometimes it can take months to get one scheduled. GI doctors tend to be very busy for some strange reason. And at least that way you won't be head scratchin... -
ARCHIVED I Just Need To Get This Out.... (Death Mentioned)
GFinDC replied to mommy2krj's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Some Crohn's patients do better on a gluten-free diet, but many do not. It's not the same for all people. So it's not possible to know if it would have helped your friend I don't think. Maybe, but maybe not. It's too bad she had the problem with the pills and her memory. I had the same kind of thing happen with some high blood pressure medication. Kept... -

ARCHIVED 'spastic Colon' And Celiac?
GFinDC replied to Nikki2777's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
Hi Nikki, There is no way to know for sure at this point. It doesn't sound like the doctor tested you for celiac disease back then. It's certainly a possibility you had it then. Mild is a matter of interpretation though. People with celiac disease can have no obvious GI sympto0ms at all, and they celiac that "silent celiac". That classification doesn... -
ARCHIVED 3 Months Into Gfd: Dehydrated And Constipated
GFinDC replied to funkflex's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Hi FF, Food allergies are not the same as food intolerances. Allergies are a different immune response. The testing for allergies won't show intolerances. Food tiintolerances are something we pretty much have to figure out ourselves. There is very limited testing for them from doctors. It is good to have the allergy test done, as it is sure possible...- 45 replies

ARCHIVED New To The Forum, Never Done This Before
GFinDC replied to Daytimevampire's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Hi Heather, Welcome the forum! There was a study posted not long ago by someone, hopefully they will show up and re-post the link. But anyway, it was about a study some med-heads did on celiacs who didn't recover on the gluten-free diet. They found that if those people went on a a whole foods diet and eliminated any trace of gluten, including so... -
You could try some carob powder instead of chocolate. Kind of similar. Have you tried DGL? DGL kills off h.pylori which can cause stomach pain. It's not unusual for people to have h.pylori.
