ARCHIVED Gluten Free Debate
GFinDC replied to come dance with me's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Or maybe they are "less than" symbols? I see she already fixed 'em up. Kamma, There's an old saw, if it ain't broke, don't fix it! It seems to me everyone in Australia would easily understand the current labeling there. Changing the standard seems unneeded to me. -
ARCHIVED How Long Does It Taken To Recover From An Accidental Glutening
GFinDC replied to UnhappyCoeliac's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Hi UC, One study showed there were still abnormalities in some celiac patients guts after 18 months gluten-free. -
ARCHIVED Is Okay To Self Diagnose?
GFinDC replied to freeme808's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Hi, It is perfectly fine to choose not to eat food that makes you sick. Celiac disease isn't a easily recognized condition by doctors. Most celiacs are undiagnosed or mis-diagnosed today. And they have been for decades. I didn't say doctors are dumb. Nope, I didn't say that. Just because they miss over 80% of the celiac disease cases. They are... -
ARCHIVED When Does The "d" Stop?
GFinDC replied to graciebear's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
That's good to hear Gracie! Sounds like if you keep doing what you are doing diet wise things should be ok. When you do start adding foods back to your diet, do it in a controlled, purposeful way. Don't start eating a whole lot of different new things in one day. Instead add one new food item and eat it for several days to see how you body reacts. Small... -
ARCHIVED Senator Parker Addresses Celiac Disease And Gluten Intolerance - Long Island Exchange
GFinDC replied to Scott Adams's topic in Publications & Publicity
Great to see some legislative action on celiac disease awareness. -
Congrats! Figuring out the issue yourself is just as valid as a doctor doing it IMHO. Most celiacs are undiagnosed or mis-diagnosed with a different condition. The medical establishment doesn't have a great track record with diagnosiing celiac disease. Kind of a lousy one in fact.

ARCHIVED Can Celiac Effect Every Part Of Your Body
GFinDC replied to dek38's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Hi Dek, Yes, celiac and mal-absorption can affect the whole body. Other things can also of course. Have you had your blood sugar tested? You can get an AIC test done to see how it has averaged over the past 3 months. Might be a good one to get done, it's just a simple blood test. At first I was going to suggest werewolf, (due to the foamy saliva... -
ARCHIVED Liver Functions Linked To Gluten?
GFinDC replied to SasaMinks's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Personally,I had more than enough of being sick and trying to work a full time job. So I got off gluten and stayed off it. Except for a few slip-ups during the learning phase and some accidental glutenings or cc.. I think it is probably easier for people with obvious gluten related symptoms to stay off gluten without a diagnosis. At least it seems to... -
Hi Surviormom, It sounds like you are learning the ropes of living with celiac disease. One thing that is different about the gluten-free diet and other diets is that it is a medical diet. Not just a weight loss or weight gain (for body building) plan. The big difference is those kind of diets allow occasional "cheating" with no real consequences. ...

ARCHIVED The Rice Krispies Conundrum - To Eat Or Not To Eat
GFinDC replied to Tragree's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Hi Shelly, Welcome to the forum! You have every right to be here. All of us were in the dark about our condition at some point. Kellogg's does make a gluten-free version of Rice Krispies now. The box says gluten-free right on the front. Have you checked the ingredients of the cereal that makes you sick? I suggest you keep a nutrition label... -
ARCHIVED Liver Functions Linked To Gluten?
GFinDC replied to SasaMinks's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
The reason I read for possible liver issues is toxins released into the body by dying cells in the intestine. Dying cells sounds like celiac disease to me. -
ARCHIVED gluten-free Oats Have A 1 In 20 Chance Of Causing Celiac Attack
GFinDC replied to Laban's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Oats don't like me anymore. I think it was the CSA that sponsored a research project on oat reactions in celiacs a few years back. Pretty sure their result was something like 10% of celiacs that react to oats. But the was just one study, so maybe things have changed. We have gluten-free oats marketed in the USA also Laban. Bob's Red Mill sells them.... -
ARCHIVED My Only Celiac Friend Started Eating Gluten Again, And I Feel Alone.
GFinDC replied to rorenchan's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Well, she can do what she wants with her life. She ought to be aware that other auto immune disease can spring up easily enough in untreated celiac disease. Some people have gone back on gluten for acoupe years and developed DH (dermatits herptiformis) from doing it. Or some other AI condition. It's nothing to toy around with if you ask me. -
ARCHIVED New Here-Story & Question
GFinDC replied to kitty-witty's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Hi Kitty, One advantage of the pill cam is it can take pictures all the way through the GI system. An endopscopy or colonoscopy can only see 4 to 5 feet into the system from either end. So it won't show anything in the intervening areas, which is quite a lot of area! Pill cams can't take biopsy samples so unless damage is visible on the pictures it... -
ARCHIVED Er Visit For Our Little One After Being Glutened
GFinDC replied to Nehring's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Hi Nehring, The typical thinking people seem to have is that gluten sensitivity is not as dangerous as celiac disease. We don't really know that is true. Until last year the medical community didn't consider it real. Then some researchers did a study that proved it exists and causes real symptoms. In some people, symptoms just like celiac disease causes... -
ARCHIVED 3 Months Into Gfd: Dehydrated And Constipated
GFinDC replied to funkflex's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Hi Funk, An elimination diet is the best way to find food intolerances IMHO. You reduce your diet to just a few foods that you consider to be safe for a week or two. Then each week after that add one food every 3 days. Drop any that cause reactions. A good starting diet would be 5 foods, including some kind of meat, a veggie (possibly sweet potato...- 45 replies

ARCHIVED Er Visit For Our Little One After Being Glutened
GFinDC replied to Nehring's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Hi Nehring, Welcome to the forum! I never did the SCD myself, it has a lot of diary in it so it didn't work for me. It should be safe to stick to basic foods though, like meat, nuts, fruit and veggies. Notice I left dairy out of that list. Dairy is known to cause constipation for many people. Also it can cause intestinal bleeding in people with... -
ARCHIVED Recently Diagnosed, Completely New To This :(
GFinDC replied to kellyc143's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Hi Kelly, Concentrate on eating meats, veggies, fruit and nuts. Those foods are mostly gluten-free naturally. Some nuts may have gluten added so do check labels. II suggest you try Mission brand or other corn tortillas instead of gluten-free bread. They are cheaper and usually gluten-free. There are also rice wraps made by Rudi's and Trader Joes... -
ARCHIVED New Here-Story & Question
GFinDC replied to kitty-witty's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Hi, If it is really worth it to you to make yourself sick for a diagnosis, that's fine. Most celiac centers suggest around 6 weeks to 12 weeks for a gluten challenge. If you have symptoms that resolve when you don't eat gluten it seems to me there is no need for a diagnosis. But each person has to decide that for themselves. Ask yourself how much... -
ARCHIVED Could Be Coincidence
GFinDC replied to Dozey's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Hi Dozey, I can't say for sure you aren't getting some benefit from reducing gluten in your diet. With celiac disease the symptoms people get are so variable it is not easy to be absolutely sure about anything by judging symptoms. It could be you are getting some improvement now. My symptoms pre-gluten-free were not the same all the time. With NCGI... -
Anal Bleeding?
GFinDC replied to melrobsings's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Hi BKJ, I get it from eating dairy. Gluten also but not since I went gluten-free. It took about 9 months for my constant gut pain to go away after going gluten-free. Being careful, or rather just being sure you aren't getting nay gluten is very important for your healing. The auto-immune process doesn't need much gluten to kick up a storm of antibodies... -

GFinDC replied to julissa's topic in Food Intolerance & Leaky Gut
Here are a couple articles on fruit waxing. Open Original Shared Link Open Original Shared Link You could try making a solution of water and ammonia to wash your fruit. You would need to rinse it real well after washing or let it sit a while to let the ammonia evaporate. There is probably very little wax on the fruit to begin with though. Waxes...
