ARCHIVED Could This Be Celiac - Long List Of Symptoms - Please Help
GFinDC replied to marco's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Hi Marco, That's right, oats shouldn't be eaten for 12 months or more. Around 10% of celiacs react to oats just like they do to wheat, rye, and barley. So it's a good idea to avoid them for now. I think it is easier to avoid sugar after you do it for a while. If you get used to eating meats and veggies for most of your calories that gives you a... -
I hardly ever notice that little up arrow at the bottom right of the posts. The old system it was more noticeable I think. But it does work. I added a one up to your post Sisterlynr. But I think Peter is right, in the current system it is not used much, it just isn't as noticeable as before.

ARCHIVED How Long Of Being Gluten Free With Result In Negative Tests?
GFinDC replied to taynichaf's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Nobody can tell you for sure. Some of the tests seem to be sensitive to the amount of damage in the gut. So if you don't have much damage yet it may not show up on the test. Celiac disease testing is not a perfect thing at all. Positive test results are pretty darn reliable. Negative results are not so reliable. After all the testing is done, it is... -
Hi SunnyFL (Lisa), Do you have a lot of bloating / gas in your gut after eating? If your gut is inflamed and irritated, blowing it up like a balloon can make it painful. Bacteria in our guts makes gas and that causes bloating. If you can reduce that it may help. Bacteria in our gut feed on the foods we eat. If we eat a lot of carbs and sugars they...

ARCHIVED Dermatitis Herpetiformis Question
GFinDC replied to Deaminated Marcus's topic in Dermatitis Herpetiformis
Hi Marcus, There is a member GfreeMo who developed DH after going back on gluten for 2 years. She has been having a hard time with it. It's not a fun condition. People with DH sometimes avoid iodine when they are flaring. And flares can last a while. Listen to Squirmy, she knows what she is talking about. -
ARCHIVED Gluten Challenge, Symptoms Getting Better
GFinDC replied to allisonwilkins's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
You should probably read these articles before you decide that gluten intolerance will not damage your health. That really isn't something that is known yet. It seems more logical that a condition that causes symptoms is likely to do some damage also. But research on long term effects is lacking. Non-celiac wheat sensitivity article https://www.celiac... -

ARCHIVED Why Do I Now Get Sick From Gluten When I Didn't Before Going Gluten Free
GFinDC replied to JulieAC's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Hi GL, Welcome to the forum! NCGI is being researched now, but we don't know the full story yet. How it affects the gut damage wise in the long term is not known. How it affects the whole body in the long term is not known. They do think it involves an immune system reaction, but it it the innate immune system instead of the adaptive immune system... -
ARCHIVED I Am So Sick After Rice Cakes
GFinDC replied to CommonTater's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
If rice cakes don't work maybe corn cakes will. Corn Thins are a similar thing to rice cakes but thinner and made from corn. They are made in a dedicated gluten-free facility in Australia but are sold in many countries. I get them at health food stores. You may have to ask for them as they aren't always in the same area as rice cakes for some reason.... -
ARCHIVED With Celiac, Does Mucus In Stool = Intestinal Damage?
GFinDC replied to Alphy's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Hey Alphy, You can ask the GI to do the endoscopy at the same time as the colonoscopy. That is going to save time and money for you since they only have one appointment to deal with and one anaestheia specialist to pay. They need to take 4 to 6 biopsy samples of the small intestinal lining. The biopsy samples are sent to a lab for microscopic review... -
ARCHIVED Could This Be Celiac - Long List Of Symptoms - Please Help
GFinDC replied to marco's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Hi Marco, You could be having gluten withdrawal symptoms now. Gluten proteins are similar enough to opiate proteins to interact with brain receptors. So the can actually have an addictive effect on some people. If it is withdrawal symptoms they should pass in a few weeks. If it were brain/neural issues it can take months to resolve though. It... -

ARCHIVED Generally Much Better But New Symptoms Appearing
GFinDC replied to alesusy's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Yep, keep trying! It is possible to develop new food intolerances Aleusey. However, since your symptoms appeared suddenly after returning from a trip, I think it makes sense to consider either hidden cross-contaminatoin or possibly a bug or flu. Or leftover symptoms from food on the trip that didn't really get going until your return. After a few... -
ARCHIVED Could This Be Celiac - Long List Of Symptoms - Please Help
GFinDC replied to marco's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Hi Marco, Celiac may be causing brain symptoms for you. Celiac can cause malabsorption of nutrients, (vitamins minerals), and that can cause all kinds of problems in the body. It is a good idea to get tested for nutrient deficiencies if you can. Since celiac damages the villi lining the small intestine, people are often low in the fat soluble vitamins... -

ARCHIVED Newly Diagnosed- College Student, Overwhelmed!
GFinDC replied to katiehammond's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Hi Katie, Celiac disease symptoms are really variable. Some people have no symptoms at all. Others have mild symptoms and some have severe symptoms. Symptoms can also change over time, and reactions can get more sensitive to small amounts of gluten. Your school may have a student liason that can help you with getting celiac safe food. You may... -

GFinDC replied to CanineGluten's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Hmm, well CG, a beer is made from gluten containing grains normally. so that is not something you should do, unless you are drinking gluten-free beer of course. They do make several kinds of gluten-free beers. So you can have beer, just get the right kind and no problem. they also make gluten-free donuts, bread, pretzels, cookies, cereal, pizza, etc.... -
ARCHIVED Fasting After A Glutening? Pros And Cons?
GFinDC replied to anti-soprano's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Hi AS, I think it is better to keep eating myself. That way there is more good stuff in the gut to help thin out the bad stuff. Lots of water is good too. And some Pepto Bismol. -
ARCHIVED Greetings! Off The Wall Questions
GFinDC replied to ChasesDad's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Hi Chase's Dad, Yep, small amounts can get you. Celiac is autoimmune. Think about how small germs are. Have you ever seen one? Yet your body detects and reacts to them even if they are too small to be seen. Celiac disease is the same response, the immune system attacks the gluten and the tissues it is on. If your immune system couldn't detect and... -
Ha Ha, not really IH. Then again, I never would of thot I would spend a lot of time on a site where people discuss their bowel habits every day either. Such an interesting and inspirational subject after all! OK, now Shroomie, you could try some Marshmallow root or some okra some time instead. Marshmallow and Scotch straight up might work...

GFinDC replied to taynichaf's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Hi, Getting the gene tests is not bad idea. Having the genes doesn't mean you have celiac disease, but it does mean you could develop it. Here are a couple articles about NCGI. The symptoms of NCGI can be very similar to celiac disease. Non-celiac wheat sensitivity article https://www.celiac.com/articles/23033/1/Non-Celiac-Wheat-Sensitivity... -
ARCHIVED Could This Be Celiac - Long List Of Symptoms - Please Help
GFinDC replied to marco's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
One week is not very long on the gluten-free diet Marco. It is really too soon to be expecting things in your gut to be settled down. Here's the Cadbury info page on gluten in their products for Australia. Ingredients in products can vary by the country they are made in. So if they were made elsewhere you should check ingredients there. I found this... -
