  1. You can always wash the meat before cooking it. If your gut is already irritated from something else then it can be bothered by minor things. There may be something else going on in your diet that is causing your gut to be inflammed/irritated all the time. It might be good to try eliminating other things one at a time to see if they have an affect. Remeber...
  2. The colon absorbs water from the "stuff" as it sits . So the longer it sits the more water is absorbed. And eventually you get "poo-crete". Don't worry too much about it, just get plenty of water and keep far away from gluten. Dairy may be a problem right now too. Anything that irritates your gut can cause it to move slowly and cause C.
  3. Ouch, no biting the caps of beer bottles for her then! Karen, you'll just have to spring for real beer bottle opener.
  4. Hi Bethanne, Trying an elimination diet makes sense. They are often the only way to identify other food iniolerances. A very simple diet with a few foods in it is easier to understand and troubleshoot than a diet with a hundred or more ingredients. I think Bartful meant to say 3 weeks on the 5 foods, not 3 months. What you are looking for with the...
  5. The problem with plastic is when it is old and scratched up a lot. If it is in good shape and not scratched up it should be cleanable. But then, a new place to store art supplies is always handy too!
  6. Hi BC, Hashimoto's is associated with celiac disease. They are both autoimmune condtions. The odds of having another autoimmune condition are higher for people with celiac disease too. There are several people with Hashimoto's Thyroiditis on the forum.
  7. Hi BC, The length of time needed for a gluten challenge is variable depending on who you ask. Your doctor or GI will need to give you their idea of the correct length of time to eat gluten. The major celiac centers in the USA list various durations from 6 weeks up to 12 weeks. If you do have celaic disease doing a gluten challenge for 3 months can be...
  8. HI Adam, It could just be gas in your stomach. You can try some peppermint tea and see if that helps.
  9. Hi Jim, Celiac diseae damages the small intestine. That damage can lead to people devloping somewhat random food intolerances. In celiac the damamge (an autoimmune response) is kicked off by eating gluten (wheat, rye, barley and possibly oats). But once your system is sensitized to other foods, they can also cause symptoms. Those other food intolerances...
  10. Hi, The article linked below describes a study done in Italy on non-celiac wheat sensitivity. It confirms the existence of the condition. What we don't know right now is what all the effects of non-celiac wheat sensitivity are. Non celiac wheat sensitivity article http://www.celiac.co...ists/Page1.html
  11. Thanks for the positive story Shroomie! It's neat when people can make things work out for us. I hope you are recovering well.
  12. Being able to get around so soon after the surgery is great! Even if it isn't dancing with the stars style getting around
  13. Your cast iron skillet would be fine to use if you clean it good. I boiled soapy water in mine for a while. Then scrubbed ti down good with steel wool. Basically it becomes like a new skillett.
  14. How about a change of nail color? Just spray a new color on right? Or maybe try those smush on shoe polish colors in the roller top bottle. You could change them every day really quick!
  15. Hi FreedomS You may indeed find your bad foods will be ok later. I had bad hafever before gluten-free, but don't have much of a problem since being gluten-free. When you are eating gluten your gut is damaged and many foods can cause a reaction. Affter 6 months or so it would be ok to try some of the suspect foods in small quantities. One at a time...
  16. Welcome Sarah, It's good to have you here! Here are a couple "starter" threads for you that can give a good overview. Make yourself at home and feel free to ask questions. We don't charge for answers so no problem there FAQ Celiac com https://www.celiac.com/gluten-free/forum-7/announcement-3-frequently-asked-questions-about-celiac-disease...
  17. Wow Raven, bummer and anti-bummer in the same day! It's no surprise you didn't catch that little blip of numbers on the lab report back then. Heck, they told you it was negative after all. And we all know how untreated brain fog, or celiac, affects our thinkers. Many congrats on the new job! That sounds like an interesting one. Workng with people...

    ARCHIVED Is This Diagnosis Accurate

There is a recent study confirming the existence of 2 forms of NCGI. They call it non-celiac wheat sensitivity in the study. The study does not show any conclusions about possible long term effects of the conditions. It did identify 2 possible forms of the condition, one with more severe symptoms similar to celiac disease, and one with less obvious symptoms...
  19. Sounds like the gluten-free diet is the thing for you then. Time to get your gluten-free booties on and hit the gluten-free diet trail. Mostly whole foods will let you heal faster than lots of processed foods. I am sure you have heard the advice about taking pro-biotics and digestive enzymes already. Healing may take a while but it can start right away...
  20. Flour can get airborne and get inside the electrical motor housing during mixing. You can take the mixer oustide and blow out the motor housng with compressed air. Those cans of air they sell for cleaning computers would work. Or take it to a car garage and ask them to blow it out with their air compresser. Plain metal is not hard to clean generally...
  21. Hi, Defintely talk to the head chef or caterer for the event ahead of time. They may be able to prepare something for you or buy something gluten-free themselves. They could probably do at least a salad ok but maybe not the salad dressing. There may be other people at the event who are dining gluten-free also, it woudln't be unusual these days.
  22. It was a dark and stormy night...... The grain beat against the window pane mercilessly.., M-Lee, was that your offspring in the pirates video?
  23. The 72% increased death risk sounds scary until you think about what the original death risk was. If the oringal risk was 1% and it increased 72% then it is1.72%. They didn't actuallly give the real number, just a dramatic sounding increase percentage. There are lots of people selling cures and treatments for 'leaky gut" on the internet these days. Lots...
  24. HI, You could look at Paleo/primal diets and see if they work for you. Eating grain free and low carb is not a bad way to go. Lots of meat (protein) in your diet is good as protein reduces the total glycemic index of your meal. Vinegar in a meal is also supposed to slow the conversion to sugar in your meals. So some mustard or rice wine vinager might...
  25. I hope it helps Wendy. Don't be in a hurry to add things to your diet. If you pick out a meat you can eat and a few veggies that is all you really need for a couple weeks. Slow and steady wins the race they say. Them people that say these things usually haave some reason for saying the things they say. It's faster in the end to go slow, rather than havnig...
