  1. Well, if you know you are not getting gluten in your diet, and you have eliminated all other food intolerances or likely food intolerances, then it is probably time to look at other possibilities. Crohn's is one, as it can be episodic as far as symptoms go. I wouldn't be checking for it though until I was sure there was no possible gluten in my diet and...
  2. Great news Krista! Celiac can cause a whole lot of symptoms, but the nice thing is usually they resolve on the gluten-free diet. Once we stop poisoning our bodies, things just tend to get better.
  3. Well, like I said before, the testing is not perfect. It could be correct, and it could be wrong. Endoscopic biopsy is not perfect either. They can only reach the beginning of the small intestine with a biopsy and there is lots of it they can't see or access. At least not without one of those pill cam deals. So, you are left wondering if they could...
  4. Your symptoms seem like a pretty good match to me. There is a celiac support group in Australia that might be able to help. They would probably have a good idea about doctors that are good. There is some celiac research being done in Australia that is very interesting. Open Original Shared Link Hopefully some of the upside down people on the...
  5. Yep, another doctor might be a good idea. DH (dermatitis herpetiformis is a skin condition associated with celiac disease. They can take a biopsy of the skin next to a lesion and have it checked for gliaden antibodies. Sometimes people with DH have fewer intestinal symptoms and damage at first. But it may not stay that way.
  6. Good thread Dani! I'm glad for John 3:16. I'm glad that God loves me even though I don't deserve it. I'm glad that I can paint and draw and make art. I'm glad that God made women and not just men. I'm glad that God made gravity so I don't fly off into space. I hear it's cold out there. I'm glad for Muffin, the gray fur-head...
  7. Welcome to the site Marie! Nice to have you with us.
  8. Hi, You didn't give the gluten-free diet enough time. It can take varying amounts of time to heal the gut. Two years is not far-fetched to get to feeling better. Some people feel much better right away but others may go back and forth from better to worse until things really settle down and improve. Your doc sounds pretty good. There are a few other...
  9. You could ask your doctor about immune suppressants. They can have bad affects if taken long term but they might help cool things down in the short term. Just a thought, I don't know if they would help the Hashimoto's long term or not.
  10. Well good, feeling better is great! Getting some sun also helps with vitamin D levels. So that might be something to have checked.
  11. Hi, It's pretty simple really. If you go gluten-free for 6 months and your symptoms start to improve, then you have a problem with gluten. Whether you call it celiac or NCGI (non-celiac gluten intolerance) is not really important IMHO. The main point is to feel better right? Having autoimmune symptoms that no tests can identify the cause of is something...
  12. HI, It sounds like you are in the right place. Do get all the testing you want done before going gluten-free. The tests are usually not any good after being gluten-free a while. The testes are usually a blood antibody test panel first, and then an endoscopy with 5 or more biopsy samples. None of these tests are reuired to eat a gluten-free diet though...
  13. Yep, call the hospital today and tell them you need gluten-free meds, bandages and food while inside the joint. gluten-free nurses might be too much to ask for though. I hope your surgery goes well.
  14. Welcome Natalie, we can use the company!
  15. Wheat allergy is a more immediate danger. An allergy can cause symptoms like trouble breathing, red, puffy face, hives, red itchy eyes. Those are IgE symptoms. IgE symptoms are treated with anti-histamines like Benedhryl etc. You can read up on allergy symptoms at this link: Open Original Shared Link
  16. No, he hasn't been tested MIke. That's where the stubborn streak comes in. Maybe someday he will change his mind tho. All I can do is talk to him about it, but he isn't super interested in hearing it. He was in a "place" for a while but the manages ok now without meds. I just wish there was a way for him to be happier. But he keeps real busy gardening...
  17. Of course, that brings up the little boxes song.. I couldn't find the video I wanted, it had a view of all the houses in their proper colors. But this one is pretty fun anyway.
  18. Oats don't like me. But everyone has their own body and needs to find out for them selves how things affect them. This is a trial and error business we are in.
  19. Welcome Bob, glad you found us. You may have celiac, which is an autoimmune disease or you may have an allergy, or something else. A couple weeks is not too long for test results from a lab. They send the samples out and then wait for the lab to check them and send a report back. So it can take a while. If you want to have a full, official...
  20. Hashimoto's is more common in celiacs. If you search the forum for Hashimoto's you will find lots of threads about it. Being heavy is not a criteria for excluding celiac. Many of the old stereoptypes about celiac are slowly being turned over including the weight one. The truth is celiac hasn't been well studied until recently and the medical establishment...
  21. Yep, get the celiac panel done. Like Ravenwood said, try the diet regardless of what the tests say, but after the endoscopy if you decide to have one. The world falling out from under you feeling is something I recognize. I think it is from falling blood pressure, and it used to happen to me. For me it turned out to be caused by soy. Soy inhales loudly...
  22. Yep, try the gluten-free diet for her. Tests are not perfect, and they don't really matter if she improves on gluten-free. When the medical establishment comes out with a perfect 100% accurate test then they will have some basis for making claims about people not being celiac due to a test result. Until then they are guessing, or blowing smoke as some...
  23. Don't get too upset about the cooking oppurtunites until you spend some time reading the recipe section of the board. Celiacs do eat, and there are lots of options of different things to try. Flourless peanut butter or chocolate cookies are ok if you like treats. There are long threads on gluten-free bread baking, and many threads on snack ideas etc. ...
  24. gluten-free processed foods, like breads, pastas, cookies etc are expensive for sure. IMHO it is better to eat mainly whole foods anyway, and keep the baked goods as a treat sometimes. If you can get the large family packs of meat on sale it is usually reasonable to do that. Most groceries seem to alternate the sales so the chicken is on special one...
  25. Maybe the picture on the right top of this link will help. It shows the locations of various innards. Open Original Shared Link I used to have pain in my abdomen to the left of my belly button and a little lower. Also had more general pain throughout the abdomen. It could take a while for your pain to go away. It may go away faster if you stay...
