  1. There is a test called EZ-Gluten that you can get. I think there may be another, possibly from Spain but I don't remember the name. I haven't used any of them myself. I find it simpler to stop eating foods that make me sick. There is a process called an elimination diet that might help you with this. The thing is, additional food intolerances are not...
  2. I actually stayed about the same after going gluten-free at first but did gain some lbs after a while. But my appetite changed a lot and I found I was staying at basically the same weight but eating much less food after going gluten-free. I just wasn't as hungry all the time like I Was before. I could stand to lose a few pounds now, but I never had a weight...
  3. There is a rash called dermatitis herpetiformis that is closely associated with celiac diseease. That rash (DH) causes blisters and the doctor can biopsy the skin near the blister to check for antibodies to gluten. People with celiac disease have a higher than usual chance of getting other auto-immune diseases also.
  4. I think it is more likely a reaction to soy in the chocolate. That's just an idea, as there are quite a few of us that have reactions to soy. And most chocolate has soy in it and dairy.
  5. There is a very wide range of symptoms that people get with celiac disease. That is one reason it is hard or slow to be diagnosed usually. Doctors get confused and don't test for it because they are looking for something else that more commonly fits the symptoms. You can search on "celiac related condition" or "celiac associated condition" to find lists...
  6. I sent you PM TH, please check and call if you'd like. Paul GFinDc
  7. Also, Have you tried eliminating rice? And yes, vitamins and meds need to be checked or eliminated also. Also any drinks, like tea, or coffee etc. Everything you consume is a possible problem. You can't assume anything is safe until you try eliminating it for a while.
  8. welcome, glad you found us!
  9. Tinkyada is another good gluten-free pasta brand. If you are already gluten-free, then you may have a bad reaction and a miserable honeymoon if you eat a gluten filled meal at the reception. I'd suggest using the 2nd cake (gluten-free) and getting a gluten-free meal some where. Ask the caterer to make you veggies in a clean pot or pan and not to use the...
  10. Well, I don't eat any soy on purpose. But that's me and my preference. For you to know if you react you do have to try it yourself. But to know if you are reacting you should stop all soy for a month or two and then test soy oil. Although I think it is better to just use a different oil if there is any doubt at all. What's the big attraction to soy oil...
  11. B vitamins and magnesium are two remedies often suggested on this board. I used to have low grade fevers and wake up sweating a lot. Most likely there is still something in his diet that he is reacting to. Additional food intolerances are common with celiac disease. Any of the top 8 food allergens are possible or multiple foods for that matter. Soy and...

    ARCHIVED Yay!

That's great news Erin! I saw a news story about diabetes being reversible by going on a restricted diet of 600 calories daily for a while. Sounds tuff but might be worthwhile. It was on BBC health site. It might help to avoid sugar and carbs of course, and concentrate on protein for meals. One of the other members who has diabetes takes alpha...
  13. You'll get used to eating gluten free after you have done it awhile. It can actually be a much healthier diet if done right. Eating whole foods cooked from scratch is the way to go. Avoiding processed foods is a good idea anyway, as you don't get all the preservatives and food colorings and such that they load them with. It sounds like you are really...
  14. When I quit soy it took about 2 weeks to feel like I was improving, and about 6 weeks to start feeling very noticeably better. My symptoms were joint pain, fainting, weakness, insomnia. I couldn't keep going without drinking caffeine every couple hours. I would just fall over while sitting at the computer working. First I stopped the caffeine, which helped...
  15. I had blood in the stool also. It stopped after I Was gluten free a while. I also had black stool which is said to be caused by blood. Since you have only been gluten free for 2 weeks it is not surprising that you aren't completely healed. Especially since it is fairly common for people new to the diet to make mistakes and not realize they are eating...
  16. Huh, you can still eat carrots? Wow lucky you!
  17. Oh crap, I think I have that FMPS! My eyes get all bugged out and my rear starts to swell up and itch. Plus I go cross-eyed and can't sit still. And my face gets all red and angry looking. So nice to finally have a name for it! Just another one for the list... I hope I didn't misunderstand your post tho...!
  18. I use Firefox and haven't had any problems.
  19. Hmm, does have a biscuit mean eating gluten? Or a gluten free biscuit? Big difference of course. One would keep your antibody reactions going, the other would just taste bad.
  20. I don't know if I want to chip in a for a big fancy new garbage can, but I'd go for spraying him with a big can of Lysol disinfectant anytime. Lemon scent would be helpful!
  21. Scott just posted this article on the site in another thread. What do you want to get from a formal diagnosis? There are good reasons for getting it and there are reasons not to get it. Each person needs to evaluate the value of it to themselves. Open Original Shared Link NEW YORK, July 8, 2011 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- A new study has found that...
  22. I don't know if this would work for you or not. But they do have Amtrak service to DC and there are bus lines that stop in too. It does get kind of warm and humid here some times. The Potomac River and the Annacostia River run through DC. My neighborhood used to be called "Swamp Poodle" many years ago. There was a creek that ran though it at that time...
  23. It seems more likely they would want to put you on immuno-suppressant drugs than chemo. Have you got a gluten free home environment? You might be getting cc from gluten eaters in the house if you don't. And then there is the gluten kiss of a contaminated mouth to think about. Vitamin pills and meds are sometimes a gluten problem also. Have you...
  24. I see you had your thyroid tested already. Were your number near the low end of the normal range or mid way or high? What's normal for one person can be low for a another person, our bodies are not identical. But, I suggest the food issues are more likely the cause of your problems. Gluten cc can be a biggie, but there are other food intolerances that...
  25. There is no test to prove that a food is 100% gluten free. The best test right now is down to 5 ppm. Which means there could be up to 5 ppm in the food. The more common tests are 20 ppm. So, if he is eating a lot of processed foods, he could be getting enough gluten to keep him sick. There is no labeling law in the US right now, so anyone can put a...
