  1. Hi Joe, I agree with Ravenwood, if your stomach is acting up there is probably a food issue causing it. Could be gluten sneaking in your diet somehow, or it could be a secondary food intolerance. Have you tried eliminating dairy and soy? They seem to be the most common ones. But there are plenty of other possibilities too, like nightshades, corn, eggs...
  2. Well, you have got started at least! :-) Really the simpler your diet is to start out with the better off you will be. You can always add foods into your diet later, but to start you need to keep things very simple. After a while of eating just whole foods and simple spices and safe vitamins you will learn what bothers your body. Then you can slowly try...
  3. Hi, Try doing a search on snack ideas or breakfast ideas in the top left search field on the site. Look for the threads with the most replies and read them. We all been doin' this for a while and are still alive and kickin' too! It all gets easier after you learn the basics and do it for a while, just like anything else you have to learn. The...
  4. Ha ha, glad you like it Ox! I sometimes wonder if the poor guy had celiac. He had bowel problems and scabs on his skin after all, could be DH sores. Well, hard to tell of course, but I think he ate too much wheat.
  5. It really is a learning process going gluten-free. Staying away from restaraunts, eating whole foods, and avoiding soy and dairy are good steps to take. Also check your vitamins pills and medicines for gluten and soy and dairy. Use simple spices like salt and pepper or maybe a little garlic. Watch out for flavored coffees and teas, plain is better.
  6. Hi, I am not sure about easing the symptoms of casein withdrawal. Maybe it would help if she started using less dairy to begin with and eased into it before doing the total cutoff. She could drink hemp milk, there is a brand called Tempt, sold in a box that is GFSFCF. There is also an alt cheese called Daiya, that is soy free and dairy free an gluten...
  7. Well, could be the soy, oats, tomatoes, or carrots! They all get me good. Soy is probably the worst though.
  8. Hi PQAT, I don't know if the chicken feed has anything to do with it or not. I remember seeing stories for a while about anti-biotics fed to chickens possibly causing problems. Seems like that has been in the news for a while though. The rice crackers I have seen usually have soy in them. Could it be you are reacting to soy? Soy caused me all kinds...
  9. Yep, soy and potato, so it's out for me too. I tried them a few times when they first came out but had to stop them. Most gluten-free products are out for that matter. I guess they all use potato because it is cheap. Soy and nightshade intolerance makes for a pretty short list of processed gluten-free foods that can be eaten.
  10. If she is still eating soy, I'd say get her off that also, as well as the dairy. And then have her eat only whole foods, nothing processed for a few months at least. Eat chicken, beef, turkey, fish, avocadoes, nuts, brown rice, veggies, fruits etc. Casein withdrawal is a possibility also. That's just something that would go away after a while though...
  11. Sure Shroomie! FFL bread doesn't work for me because it has carrot fiber in it. But their brown rice wraps or Trader Joe's brown rice wraps are ok. I think your idea of the other foods watering down or hiding some of the offending food make sense too. A less concentrated mixture is what it would amount to.
  12. I had hay fever since I was 16, pretty strong too. I was on anti-histamines most of the spring and fall, some in the winter and summer too. Now I am almost 53. I still have some anti-histamines in the kitchen cupboard, but I don't carry them around all the time like I used to. Going gluten free cleared up my hayfever and other allergies for probably...
  13. Enterolab has tests for egg, yeast, soy and casein in addition to gluten antibodies. Food allergies are different from food intolerances, so skin prick tests are not helpful to find food intolerances. That's not saying you can't have food allergies and food intolerances both though. Also, you said you eliminated wheat from your diet? You do know that...
  14. I actually made an omelet with Daiya cheese for the first time in a couple years just last week. Not bad at all. It does have pea protein in it just in case anyone has a problem with peas.
  15. Congrats indeed! A happy Thanksgiving baby for 2010 is born.
  16. Nice hat RM! You may find that tomatoes and peppers bother you also, as they are common nightshades as well. There are a couple thousand plants in the nightshade family, but these three seem to be the ones that cause trouble. You'll have to watch out for processed gluten-free products too, as many of them use potato flour. Over here there are only a...

    ARCHIVED Trader Joes

Acck-thtpft Bill the cat! (Doonesbury) I usually rinse the tortillas with running water on each side before I heat them in the microwave. That softens them and they don't crack so much when folded. Honestly, I don't mind the taste of the ones I've tried. But I don't think I have the most sensitive taste buds in the world either. To me the rice wraps are...
  18. I don't know that I have any food addictions as yet. I do like to chomp down on some peanuts pretty often, and lately I think I am starting to react to them somewhat. So am starting to restrict them somewhat also. I did try some bread with carrot fiber in it the other day, but I haven't tried carrots in over a year so thot it might be worth a shot. No...

    ARCHIVED Trader Joes

TJ's has gluten-free brown rice tortillas. They are not kept in the frig like most gluten-free items though. The TJ's near me they were near the wine section on a wooden rack near the bottom. Strange place to display them I thot but what the hay, I eventually found them. I guess they think while people are getting their two buck chuck (TJ's brand wine...
  20. Boy I hope so! Feeling a little better today after my carrot experiment yesterday. but still a little off so not sure I can keep the M-Lee bidding on track. Anyhow off to the auction now so we will see! Now wait a minute, was it $3 million or $3 dollars? Dang, I get confused sometimes. Well, it will all work out in the end I guess.
  21. Hi Gifree, I have had plenty of problems with short term memory myself. Long term memory also. I used to have a heck of time remembering peoples names, although I could recognize their faces. And short term memory doing tasks on the computer was abysmal. Like switching from one application to another to look for some information I would forget why...
  22. I just don't shop at China-mart myself. Other chains have variable stocks of gluten-free foods too. One Giant store here has a dedicated organic/health food section with lots of gluten-free items, but others have almost none. There are also Safeways stores that have nothing, but others that have some items. Plenty of other stores around here to go to...
  23. I am hoping to get it myself, thank-you. The guy is real class act photographer, name of Barry Schmetter. He does large format photography. The pic is similar to this one on his site: Open Original Shared Link I wish Barry had a picture of his camera on his website. It is bigger than he is! Weighs 300 lbs or so with a cast iron and wood frame...
  24. I don't know about a dog, although they are nice. I used to have 2 Shetland Sheepdogs, Corey and Sasha. Now I have a cat, and she isn't much on sniffing out gluten. But when I get cc'd gut pains, and am laying in bed, she always gets on my chest and kneads my tummy with her claws. That's the only time she kneads my tummy, other wise she will knead my...
  25. Full cat in this case! One of my photog friends is selling a pic of a monkey skull in an auction this Saturday though.
