  1. That's great they are getting you i for the endoscopy so quickly. It would be goo idea to go ahead and go gluten-free after that regardless as even the endoscopy can miss damage. There just are no perfect 100% tests for celiac right now. But a change in diet is the only treatment anyway and also the best test. If your symptoms resolve or improve due to...
  2. I used that recipe but decided to ad lib a bit. I added 1 and 1/2 cups of Bakery On Main Extreme fruit and Nut granola. I also added 1/2 teaspoon of baking powder. Baked them for about 14 minutes at 350 F degrees. They came out pretty good too! The dough gets pretty dry when adding the granola but they rise a bit and are nice and chewy. I guess like...
  3. I just really think the cosmonauts are going to be disappointed if he/she doesn't show up for the flight to Mars. But I suppose we will just have to let the OP live his/her life as they see fit. Kostrof, The advice about Pepto Bismol is good. Be aware that it can make your stool look black due to the pink color of the Pepto. Some people suggest...
  4. The scratch tests are for food allergies. Celiac is not a food allergy though, it is a food intolerance. No harm testing for both, but you need different tests for celiac. The celiac tests are done by checking the blood for antibodies to gluten. They usually call it a celiac panel. You do have to stay on gluten until the blood is drawn though or the...
  5. Yep, start with learning to cook if you are not a cook already. I used to make a big pot of rice and veggies every weekend, with various veggies and meats. Then freeze most of it in smaller portions. Make another version/flavor each weekend and you can have a nice variety after a while. I suggest you consider avoiding all sauces and salad dressings...
  6. You would probably ok with some wine, some tequila, or some potato vodka. Or maybe all three!
  7. Thanks for posting this. I am going to try the flourless peanut butter cookies tonight.
  8. gluten-free 3 years. Food intolerances: gluten, dairy, coffee, tea, carrots, garbanzo beans, soy, turnips, tomatoes, peppers, potatoes, (nightshades). I do fine if I avoid most processed foods. Once in a while I try something a little different and oops up tho. My latest blunder was eating some FFL gluten-free bread that has carrot fiber in it. Been...
  9. Some people get follow-up blood work to verify their diet is successful. This is probably more useful for people who don't have GI or other symptoms that the can clearly match up to gluten ingestion. I get very clear symptoms from gluten so there is not much point in following up with blood tests for me. I already know if I have been getting glutened...
  10. I don't know where you live, but if you are near a large city you could probably find a local celiac group nearby. That would be a good place to get recommendations for a doctor that is knowledgeable about celiac. You can also check the doctors board here.
  11. Congrats Ravenwoood! Quite an accomplishment for anyone really. But extra cool for you!
  12. I wouldn't try it now, not with so little research on it. It's an interesting claim though. Note that couple of people had to drop out due to their reactions, and the study was not very long either, 60 days.
  13. There is a skin condition that some people with celiac get called dermatitis herpetiformis (DH). There is a section of this board dedicated to it with lots of info. But it can cause a rash that is symetrical on both sides of the body, both elbows, both knees etc. I think they treat it prednisone. Anyway, DH is a specific to celiac skin condition. If...
  14. There are some members with Asperger's who pop in now and then. I have no direct experience with it so can only relate what I have heard. It seems that nuerological symptoms can be some of the slowest to respond, judging from other posts here. So a good plan might be to try the diet very strictly for 6 months and then see if there is a change. Casein...
  15. B Water L pistachios D (Just ate) A couple of wraps made with Trader Joes brown rice tortillas, ham, (baked yesterday), lettuce, mayo, salt, and pepper. Some white wine to wash it down. Danged if I ain't still washing it down too.
  16. Hi JoshnhJustinsmom, The problem with preparing gluteny foods for others is you can get gluten on your hands and then in your mouth if you eat something else with your hands. So be sure to wash up good before eating. Another problem is baking as the flours can get in the air very easily and float around and land in unwanted places like your food or...
  17. Is your boyfriend really ugly? :D Sorry bad joke. Now, Lisa had some good advice there. Check everything again, ingredients can change. BC has recently added soy flour to their cake mixes. Duh! How about other food intolerances? Could be you have developed another one or two and need to eliminate some additional foods from your diet. ...
  18. Ha ha! Richard is all like keep your hands off my BC! :D LOL! I agree Richard. Better to have it available than not. I remember when I tried the yellow cake mix a few times before the change, it was a little dry and scratchy to eat. It could be the soy flour is to help with that issue. Soy flour is used as a dough conditioner often. It has...
  19. But of course! And the cold weather, the oil spiel, and the tax-man! Very crispy! I might have to get some of those bakin' bandages. Very delicious!
  20. I just wanted to add, maybe it would help to talk to a church or a counseling center? At least you could get a different point of view on the situation and possibly some alternatives. Or it might help just to have someone to vent to in private while you are going through this situation.
  21. I got rid of all my boxes went I went tater free. I did see on the BC site that the yellow cake mix now contains soy flour. I am sure it didn't have soy flour listed as an ingredient before though. Pretty sure it said may contain traces of soy.
  22. See, that's what happens when I try to tell the Gosh honest trooth around hair. Da bar wuz thar, but he didn't et us. Happy ending to the story no? I am just too open and honust a pursein for this gruup, it seams. Hmm, Muffin-head is a good target to blame, I do agree with that. Psillie meow-hed! She alweez has a lot meows in her...
  23. Voted The gluten-free diet is relatively easy and I have been gluten free for more than one year but less than three years. (6 votes [19.35%] - View) The gluten-free part is pretty easy for me. I work at home most of the time but go to the office or work meetings sometimes and I can usually find some fruit to eat. Today I spent the day at our local...
  24. Well, since we are all guessing what the unmentionable situation is I vote for a space shuttle trip to Mars. Joint US/Russian mission with forced sharing of meals for cultural enhancement reasons. Months of eating gluten filled space goodies in a weightless environment. Sounds fun, not. But back to the question. Your body may tell you the answer...
  25. There are lots of bread recipes in the baking and cooking section of the forum. Take a look or search on bread in the recipe section. You'll find a lot!
