  1. Hi, I don't know about financial assistance plans. Maybe a local church could point you in the right direction? Kind of wondering about the chipping teeth thing. Are you following the gluten-free diet? Sounds like maybe you are not absorbing foods/nutrients well. Merry Christmas and I hope you find some answers.
  2. Hi, welcome to the gluten-free club! You could post your test results here and see if some kind could can interpret them for you. There is an endoscopy test where they take several biopsy samples to check them for villi blunting. Gluten sensitive doesn't mean you are ok with gluten. I am just guessing but it probably means the doctors saw elevated...
  3. Congtratz on yur, um restraint Jess. Public places eh? Like the local library? The kiddie playground? Sci-fi convention? These congraturlations reports are going to get berry, berry interestin. Just popping in for a quick Happy Holidays to the whole psillie cru. I am off to Ohio for the next few days to visit relates. *** Merry Christmas...
  4. Hi, There is a whole slew of other autoimmune diseases that people with celiac tend to get more often than other people do. If you search for celiac associated condition or celiac related condition, you will find lists, which tend to vary somewhat. There are also people who don't get any noticeable GI symptoms for celiac, and that is called silent...
  5. Hi Chris, Moans/rants are perfectly alright around here. We all have symptoms now and then that are not fun. Regarding the testing, there are some people who are IGA deficient, and for them the Iga antibody tests are always negative. That doesn't mean they don't have celiac though. On top of that, the tests are not 100% accurate to begin with, and...
  6. From what I've read a speckled ANA pattern is not a specific indicator at all. It is a general indicator of possible autoimmune issues. There are a number of different autoimmune conditions that can cause that pattern. Open Original Shared Link
  7. IBS (I Be Stumped) means the doc doesn't know what's causing the problem. Since the doc doesn't know what the cause is, he is basically saying "something unknown" can cause vitamin deficiencies. Well, there is also something known that can cause malabsorption and vitamin deficiencies. It's called celiac disease. It seems more reasonable IMHO to assume...
  8. Yes, there can be false negatives on endoscopy. There is a lot of small intestine in there but they can only reach a small portion of it with an endoscopy. So if a damaged portion is out of reach then there is no way to biopsy it. Or see that it exists even. Except with a pill cam, those can see the whole length of the intestines. But,as far as I know...
  9. Sounds like you are getting somewhere with your diet changes at home. It doesn't matter a whole lot what it's called, celiac or gluten intolerance, if it makes you sick then staying away from it is the right thing to do. Congrats on getting some food traps figured out!
  10. You can review all the ingredients of the foods and look for common items. Soy is probably in most or all of the tings you listed.
  11. Soy can cause GI symptoms, along with a whole bunch of other possible symptoms too. Different people can have different reactions to it.
  12. That's what I was thinking too, soy. Coffee Mate has soy in it. I am not sure about the Hershey's Kisses, but most chocolate has soy in it. The Coffee Mate site says it is gluten free.
  13. She could respond within a few days. That is not unheard of at all. Some people take much longer than that also. It varies a lot.
  14. Just a quick idea, grab yourself a carton of Larabars. That way you have a nice gluten-free snack to eat and don't have to feel deprived. Apples, and bananas and other fruits are easy to pack along snacks too.
  15. There are false negatives a lot more often than there are false positives.
  16. DH (dermatitis herpetformis) is a skin condition only celiacs get. End of story, if you got DH you gotz celiac too.
  17. Most wine is safe, tequila, potato vodka, corn bourbon, gluten-free beer also. There is a dark beer from Belgium called Greens and a light beer from America called Redbridge, and several others also. Greens is kinda expensive here in America but might be affordable there. Lucky you! Keeping your diet simple is a good way to figure out what is going...
  18. Good question. Maybe you could send them a an email and ask their reason.
  19. You are on to the right idea. What you are describing is an elimination diet. Eating a few simple foods for a while and then after your digestion settles down slowly adding in one additional food at a time. You basically test your bodies reactions to foods one food at a time. Since we are all blessed with our own individual differences this is a good...
  20. Hi LoobieJ, Ok, I read the other thread. So it sounds like the doc is trying to test her by diet? Eliminating wheat first and then maybe eliminating barley or rye next? I suggest talking to him and ask if that is his plan. If the antibody tests were negative then the diet response test is a good way to go. I kind of think it would be better for...
  21. It does sound like you are not absorbing vitamins well. Celiac can damage the villi lining the small intestine. Those villi are very important in the absorption of nutrients. When they are damaged people often have vitamin deficiencies. There are a ton of symptoms that celiacs can get. Being tired or feeling fluey are definitely possible symptoms.
  22. Hi, When people first go gluten-free, they often seem to have somewhat random digestion problems. At least that's what I have read on this board. So it can be hard at first to determine a specific food that is causing problems. Also, gluten (wheat, barley, rye) can be found in many foods besides bread and baked items. Just about any processed food...
  23. Most chocolate has soy in it, so you might be reacting to that. I have trouble with carrots and nightshades (potato, tomato, peppers) among others. Tree nuts I am not decided about but have had a few experiences recently that make me wonder about them, especially walnuts.
  24. I had pain on the left side under the rib cage for years before going gluten-free. So, yes, it can be associated with celiac. Wheat allergy could cause things like trouble breathing, red eyes, coughing, sneezing and stomach upset etc. Have you tried testing her with barley? If she reacts to barley also it is more likely to be celiac I think.
  25. I used to have a worse reaction to dairy than I do now. But I still react to it so I don't eat it. My other intolerances haven't changed that I know of. Not really sure at this point if they ever will. I have read posts from other people that their intolerances reduced over time though, or even went away. So it just shows that we are all individuals...
