ARCHIVED Help With Test Results
GFinDC replied to Sevenoclk's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
The effectiveness of DPP-IV, the active ingredient in Glutenease is kind of controversial on the board. Some think is it no help at all, some like myself think it can help some, but not at all allow deliberate eating of gluten. IMHO it may help to somewhat shorten CC recovery time and lessen symptoms. It does not stop the auto-immune reaction in celiac... -
Hi MM, From reading this site It is somewhat common for people new to the gluten-free diet to have a period of adjustment where GI symptoms seem to occur for no apparent reason. Basically you are changing the nutrients you feed not only your own body, but also all the microscopic inhabitants who live in your gut and depend on your foods for survival...

Now wait a cotton-pickin minute here. Grasshoppers, gluten-free? I fail to digress. Or I do not so agree. The grasshoppers where I grew up lived in the green, green grassy fields, and ate all kinds of plants, including prolly wild wheat, rye, and barley. They would just nibble away on it like it was a juicy salad, and every once in a while spit out a... -

GFinDC replied to star25's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Hi Star25, Welcome to the site! I have a sister who is most likely celiac or NCGI (non-celiac gluten intolerant). She gets UTI's fairly often. She gets better when she sticks to the gluten-free diet, but is not a always doing that. Hmmm. Celiac can cause malabsorption of nutrients and that can lead to wide-ranging negative affects in the body.... -
ARCHIVED New Replacement To Styroform
GFinDC replied to Lisa's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Thanks Lisa, I never even thought of that problem. I haven't seen these new fangled trays yet in my area though. Safe with plastic so far? :-) -
Duct tape sounds like a great solution to me. Red Green would be mighty proud. There are also liquid and spray on bandage materials now. Much neater than the old mud and grass trick. You spray it on and it dries in a short time to a flexible surface. I can't say what they make this stuff out of, probably old cow doodie, well refined. But it works for...

GFinDC replied to BoydBT's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
Hi Boyd, I used to take an antihistamine with clemastine chlorfumerate or some such thing in it. I can't really remember the spelling. But my sig other at the time told me I got mean when I took it. Nothing to do with alcohol, just the drug itself. And I didn't even realize I was acting differently either. So, I know drugs can have those kind of... -

You can also ask the doctors to do the celiac panel of antibody tests. The take some blood and do the tests on it. There multiple antibody types that they look at for reactions. The blood antibody tests are not 100% reliable though, so if he got a negative it could be incorrect. So the thing to do then is to put him on the gluten-free diet for 3 or 4... -
Hi Melissa, It can seem kind of tough at times, or at least it did for me. But once I eliminated my other food intolerances things turned around. Now I eat mostly whole foods with a few organic or natural style processed foods. And I feel lots better since making that change, You might have the same turn-around in time also. Hi RMav, It...

Ok, I was taking twice that amount, 50 mg daily! 25 MG sounds much better. Some changes after I stopped it are: digestion is stronger, no charlie horses, more alert wakeful during the day. I can understand half the doseage being a safer option. Sounds ok!

Hi Whalie, Maybe you could get some Chex gluten-free cereals for breakfast, and some almond milk or hemp milk. The hemp milk is for the cereal tho, not for smoking! Eggs are good for breakfast also, and you can hard boil them and carry them in a cooler for snacks. When frying your eggs you need to use a clean skillet and spatula, not one that is... -

Re takeout, there are gluten-free noodles available in many stores. Tinkyada brand is well liked. You should know that most soy sauce has gluten (wheat) in it. There are wheat free soy alternatives like Tamari, if you want to make your own take-out style Chinese food at home. There are recipes on this site for soy sauce subs also. It's not a bad... -
Be careful of the Unisom. I have heard it can interfere with blood sugar levels. Not something to take very day IMHO. Melatonin might be safer. I just got off Unisom after taking it for over a month, and it is a big difference. I was starting to have cramps in my lower legs from it, and they have gone away now. Plus I actually feel awake during the...

I put in some links that might give you some ideas of foods to eat. That's actually a pretty frequent topic around here as people are always wanting to find snacks or candy or breakfast ideas. There are some cheap subs that work for wraps. Like Mission corn tortillas, Trader Joe's brown rice tortillas, or Food for Life brown rice tortillas. You can... -

GFinDC replied to jenbaj's topic in Food Intolerance & Leaky Gut
There is a condition called casein mediated enteropathy that could cause villi blunting. But I think is supposed to be pretty rare. Celiac is associated with other auto-immune diseases though, including Hashimoto's thyroiditis. IF you read through some of the articles linked below they have some info on associated conditions. It seems more likely that... -

Milk of magnesia from the drug store can help. I also suggest looking closely at everything you are eating to be sure it is gluten free. That includes all vitamins, meds, sodas, coffee, teas etc. Staying off processed foods for a while might help also. Being gluten free is not easy if you eat food made by other people. You really need to know what the... -

I figure we are all made the way we are for a reason. And we need to accept that there is a reason for it and it is for the good. We may not understand it, but that's ok. We is just people after all. Hi, It does take time. It will go faster if she sticks to a whole foods diet and doesn't eat any processed foods. Usually organic or natural foods or ok, things with 2 or 3 ingredients that are food and not chemicals. I had pain in that area for 9 years but it did go away after going gluten-free, Took about 9 months though. But we are all different... -

GFinDC replied to BeHappy's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I suggest using dedicated pots for cooking her food, and not using them for any gluten foods. I boiled my pots for an hour with soap and water and have been ok with them, but I wouldn't want to do that every time I cooked something. Another problem is sharing butter, or peanut butter jars or mayo etc. If you use the same knife for a gluten bread and use...
