ARCHIVED Gluten Free Vs Gluten Light
GFinDC replied to bincongo's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Hmm, tell her to search on "celiac associated condition" or "celiac related condition", and read the links. Mild symptoms can turn into severe symptoms over time. And sometimes that happens suddenly. She is playing with fire if she ignores the symptoms her body is presenting. Her other auto-immune conditions could get worse or better depending on her... -
ARCHIVED The Funny Pages - Tickle Me Elbow - The Original
GFinDC replied to TriticusToxicum's topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
Well, that does look handy. Them darn peanut butter jars are hard to clean out properly. I don't remember ever posting this link to the Half-bakery, but maybe I did some foggy long past time. Karen's invention link reminded me of it. They have lots of useful invention ideas for people who want to not solve important world problems. Open Original... -
ARCHIVED My Gluten Free Food List 1/10/08...please Add Yours
GFinDC replied to Respira's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Hi Loey, Another way to get fiber is to add psyillium husks to your food, or mix a half teaspoon with a glass of water and drink it. I often add a little psyillium husks to my rice for more fiber. There is also powdered citrus fiber that people use. Some people report problems with raw veggies at first, so cooked veggies might be better. Seems like... -
ARCHIVED Capsule Endoscopy & List Of gluten-free Meds
GFinDC replied to Loey's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
55K pics! That's enough for a home movie. Time for the Loey show! Sounds like it is a simpler prep than for a colononoscopy. People have posted about taking something called movi-prep for those. They always seem impressed by the effectivenesss of it. -
Here's some things I can think of right now that are GFCFSF Food Should Taste Good chips, but not all are soy-free. Read the labels. Food For Life brown rice wraps. There was a recall on some of their other products recently, but not these wraps. Not sure what to think about that though. I plan to email them and ask about it. Mission corn tortillas...

ARCHIVED Severe Pain
GFinDC replied to loubyloo's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
We all have our own reactions, but for some, yes, they can get very painful. Your body is basically destroying your small intestine when it actively attacks gluten in your bowel. It isn't going to feel good, especially if the damage is severe. Of course the same auto-immune system kills germs and parasites for us and keeps us alive. It's a powerful system... -

GFinDC replied to Respira's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
That's a handy list Loey. I saved a copy of it for reference. Maybe you could start a new thread in the pre-diagnosis area for your capsule endoscopy? People have asked about them in the past. More info is not a bad thing for us curious minds. -
ARCHIVED New Here From Tx
GFinDC replied to MKristan2383's topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
The rash could be dermatitis herpetiformis, known as DH around here. The other DH is Dear Husband, and some people say they cause lots of problems too. There is a section of the forum dedicated to DH, so you might want to check that out. They say the biopsy has to be from the skin close to the lesions, not the lesion itself. welcome to the site! -
ARCHIVED What To Do After Accidentally Eating Gluten?
GFinDC replied to GabrielleM's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Try some Pepto Bismol. I take Pepto and plain old aspirin. I also take DPP-4 and I think it helps some. Lots of water and rest if you can. L-glutamin is supposed to help also. I never noticed any affect from it myself. There is also marshmallow root which is supposed to be soothing. If you are gassed up in the stomach peppermint is supposed to help... -
ARCHIVED First Time Glutened? CVS Med To Blame?
GFinDC replied to GFshay's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
It's good that you went gluten free. The somewhat common thing is for people to get more sensitive to gluten after going gluten-free than they were before. At least that's what happened to me. I was surprised when I had reactions to crumbs from my old toaster not long after going gluten-free. People on this board told me that could happen but I didn't... -
Good to hear the carob is working out for you Rowena. I got a round cardboard container of Chatfield's carob powder a while back so I can use it instead of chocolate powder. I didn't know about the dark vs light roasts that Riceguy mentioned. I might have to look for that. The Chatfield's package says it's processed on shared equipment with fish oil,...

ARCHIVED General Anxiety, Lexapro And Rum
GFinDC replied to BoydBT's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
I took a quick look at Ask a Patient database and found a some mentions of Lexapro and alcohol effects. There are probably more but I think it requires searching through multiple pages to find them. I pasted in some of the comments below. I selected a few of the negative comments about alcohol reactions, there are lots of other comments of course, 130... -
ARCHIVED Diagnosed Celiacs And Not Following The gluten-free Diet 100%?
GFinDC replied to SaraKat's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
I think Hawkgirl has it right, people with no or low symptoms are more apt to cheat. They call celiac with no symptoms silent celiac. That "silent" bit doesn't mean the body isn't damaged though. We had a poster a while back who went off the diet completely for years. She ended up having an emergency colostomy operation and almost died in the emergency... -
Hi Alevoy I had fainting spells also until I got off soy. It can do a real number on a person. I know some people wear a helmet for safety due to possible falls. It could be a a big help if you were to fall again. Can you quickly kneel down when you feel faint? I don't know if there is enough warning time (if any) to do that. I used to fall over...

ARCHIVED My Gluten Free Food List 1/10/08...please Add Yours
GFinDC replied to Respira's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Hi Loey, Keeping the gluten foods in the same refrig should be ok as long as they don't mix. People sometimes keep a shelf just for gluten free foods and condiments, and mark all the gluten-free condiments with a marker. You could claim the top refrig shelf for gluten-free foods, and keep all the gluteny foods on lower shelfs. That way if something... -

GFinDC replied to Respira's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Hi Loey, I think I got my Betaine HCL at the Vitamin Shoppe, it's been a while. So yeah, a pharmacy or some such would probably have it too. It's not a prescription item, so lots of places that stock vitamins may have it in the digestive aids section. The elimination diet can take several days to settle things down. Our bodies need time to heal... -
ARCHIVED My Gluten Free Food List 1/10/08...please Add Yours
GFinDC replied to Respira's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Hi Loey, One more thing you might want to try. I was having some bloating for a while and wasn't sure what the cause was. I took a betaine HCL for a few days and it cleared up. I am thinking the extra stomach acid maybe killed off some nasty bacterias. Not sure, but it helped. I don't take them often though. Betaine HCL turns into hydrocloric acid... -
ARCHIVED Still Having Major Problems
GFinDC replied to Kimeran's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I avoid any artificial sweetners now. I had problems with them also. -
How about carob as an alternative? Kinda similar. Are you sure you are reacting to the chocolate? Could it be the soy or the dairy in the chocolate instead?

ARCHIVED Split Peas
GFinDC replied to SGWhiskers's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I get very gassy from split peas, but they don't make me sick. Alpha-galactosidase enzyme should help. Just saying if that is what it is. Or Bean-zyme. -
ARCHIVED Refactory Celiac
GFinDC replied to CarolinaKip's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Looks like you haven't eliminated soy yet? I'd suggest doing that also. Most chocolate has soy in it. -
You could also be reacting to the veggies in the beef stew. Why not test that out? All you have to do is eat nothing but one of those veggies and see what happens. If nothing happens try another one the next day. Same with the spices if any that were used. If your reaction is that quick you should be able to pin it down pretty easy.

ARCHIVED My Gluten Free Food List 1/10/08...please Add Yours
GFinDC replied to Respira's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Hi Loey, The elimination diets have about as many variants as there are people doing them. Eliminating one food at a time is not going to work well unless you already know that one food is bothering you. In which case why would you be eating it anyway, eh? :-) The way I do them, and it's not the only way, is to pare down to five foods for a week. ... -
ARCHIVED I Really Need Help, Badly!
GFinDC replied to IHateMyStomach's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Hi IHMS, Your symptoms could be celiac or gluten intolerance. The diagnosis is of variable value to people. Some people really need to have a doctor tell them they are celiac, others go on the gluten-free diet and stay on it based on their symptoms. There may be some accomadation that your school could make with your food plan if you are diagnosed,...
