  1. I'll second that. I can't do dairy or soy.
  2. That's my understanding too, if you can't stick to it throughout the study, they don't count you in the results. pretty stupid system if you ask me. It's almost like saying, if you absolutely have an incredibly negative reaction, we won't include you in the study results. Whats the point then? Stupid.
  3. Before I was diagnosed with celiac disease, I went home to visit relates, and they told me I looked like crap. Dark circles under my eyes, red and white mottled facial skin, tired, sweating after nothing in particular, basically a mess. Of course, my cat who I see every day didn't say a thing. Durn cat. Getting better meant eliminating my food problems...
  4. Hey Stephie, Sorry about the problems. I think you already got some good advice about steering clear of Carnation instant breakfast products. To put it simply, any instant / ready to go foods are not especially good for us. Those kind of products are probably not really good for anyone, but they sell them anyway. For somebody who is having weight...
  5. I just got sick from something last week, and am pretty sure it was walnuts. I have been thinking of washing them off and drying them in the oven or a frying pan on the stove to see if it fixes the problem. But so far I haven't tried it because I am in a very busy time at work and not sure I want to take the chance. I have read posts by some people on...
  6. Hi, I can't say that I know what is causing her edema and low albumin, but I do know there are many possible causes of edema (swelling). I get swollen feet and ankles when I eat soy, or most any other food that causes me gut reactions. Which a lot of them do. Me feet and ankles were so swollen I would get 1/4 inch deep or more grooves in my skin...
  7. Mission brand corn tortillas are good. I also Enjoy Life brown rice warps. I get them at Whole Foods stores and some Giants.
  8. I saw it at Whole Paycheck but it was labeled just Bard's, not Bard's Tale.
  9. I have heard that at the Washington Nationals baseball stadium here in DC,they have some gluten free hot dogs and pretzels available, and even Redbridge beer. So things are moving in the right direction at least. So to the op, maybe ask at your football teams info desk about gluten free options, as you never know what they may have. Probably an email to...
  10. I had that For a long time actually. In fact, I was so gassy in my stomach at times food wouldn't stay down but came right back up after just a minute. Your son has a new diet, and his system has bacteria that feed off certain nutrients and have to balance out. After a while if he is strictly gluten free he should get better. But it has to be a very...
  11. The corn coating could have gluten in it, the hot dog could have gluten in it, the mustard could have gluten in it, the oil in the fryer could have gluten in it from frying other things with batter on them like onion rings etc..
  12. You could call your doc and tell them about your symptoms on the challenge so far. The doc may take a positive dietary response as a validation. Testing that makes you sick is pretty pointless unless you have some real reason for needing it. Just be aware the tests are not 100% accurate and have a percentage of false negatives, so you may be wasting your...
  13. Hi Chris, Lucky you having a friend who is into cooking eh? :-) About the comments on just a little gluten won't hurt you. Unh-uh, all wrong. The celiac disease reaction is caused by our immune systems. The same immune systems that seek out and destroy microscopic germs in our bodies so we don't die of other diseases. That's actually a very...
  14. Hi Coolclimates, You might like this thread. It has recipes for making dairy-free cheeses and milks and gravies. I haven't tried these myself, but several people posted that they really like the recipes. It's long thread but has lots of recipes too. Dairy Free And Egg Free And Soy Free (except For A Couple) Cheese,
  15. You may be doing your children a big favor if you teach them how to eat gluten free now. Especially if you put them on a whole foods diet. You would be eliminating all the preservatives and food colorings in processed foods for one thing. And also reducing their constant exposure to gluten and soy which is in so many processed foods. None of that is bad...
  16. I've eaten the Joyva Halva and it was ok. I have had some sesame candies before without a problem but no idea what brand they were. You can make your own if you use a microwave peanut brittle recipe and just use sesame seeds instead of peanuts.
  17. The term gluten can be confusing since we use it routinely here with the implied understanding that it means the gluten found in wheat, rye and barley grains. But gluten in general is a protein and carbohydrate molecule found in grains. The specific gluten molecule in wheat has a protein component called gliaden, which makes us sick. The protein in a barley...
  18. Seems like I've read that the B vitamins can help with nerve health. b-21 etc..
  19. Hey, it is very easy/normal to be depressed when you are sick for a long time, if it is from celiac disease or any other disease. And not sleeping enough can wear ya down too.I am just getting past 2 and 1/2 months of sleeping 3.5 to 4 hours a night, or not sleeping at all sometimes. And it does take a toll on your attitude reserves. Or mine anyway. ...
  20. I get C when glutened and then D after a day or two. So I take some milk of magnesia to start the D sooner and clear the junk out faster. And drink plenty of water. After the clean out I might do some Pepto Bismol to soothe things and some L-Glutamine. And then eventually some sleep also.
  21. You can also get sweet potato fries and bake them at home. Just in case he has a reaction to potatoes or nightshades. I wouldn't eat McD's fries myself. Just isn't worth the risk to me. Not so sure about teaching kids to play with the oven. Sometimes they have a way of making things go haywire that you wouldn't expect. Ornery rascals they is.
  22. I don't know if this group would work out for you or not. There are several threads about Angel Food Ministries on this site. Angel Food Ministries Allergen Free Box follow up report Open Original Shared Link My understanding is they get their allergen foods from this site: Open Original Shared Link
  23. Hi Mark, Thanks for the tip. Slippery elm sounds like some thing I would like to try out. I read that marshmallow root has a coating effect on the intestine. I think natural remedies are interesting to learn about and use.
  24. But are they gluten free? Did you check yourself? Also, formulations can change over time so it makes sense to keep checking them now and then. I have been sick from taking vitamins pills with oat grass juice in them before. You got to really get a magnifier out to read some of the small print on those multi-vitamin bottles. Eliminating all vitamin...
  25. I beleive that dyslexia symptoms can be caused by celiac. I've had them myself over the years and they are greatly reduced now that I am GFCFSF. My typing has actually gotten worse though, but that is due to nerve damage from a broken elbow. I do more cleaning and organizing when I feel good and get enough sleep, which is something that is still a problem...
