  1. Hi Erin, You should get your thyroid checked for Hashimotos' thyroiditis antibodies, and also check for Grave's disease. Hashimotos' thyroiditis is a condition where the body makes antibodies to the thyroid and attacks it. Hashimoto's can cause symptoms of Grave's disease (hyper-thyroid) and also hypo-thyroid symptoms (low thyroid). People with celiac...
  2. I have been doing all-right with these chips from Food Should Taste Good. They aren't fried in soy, so I can eat them. Open Original Shared Link
  3. I am going to be lazy and repost from another thread. Welcome to gluten-free living! gluten-free with a whole foods diet is actually a very healthy diet for anyone to follow. Avoid all the gluten-free products and stick with whole foods and cook them yourself at home. You will learn what works for your body faster that way since you will know everything...
  4. gluten-free with a whole foods diet is actually a very healthy diet for anyone to follow. Avoid all the gluten-free products and stick with whole foods and cook them yourself at home. You will learn what works for your body faster that way since you will know everything that you have put in your food. There are some things that you will probably be ok...
  5. The endoscopy is probably not going to show much at this point, since you have been gluten-free since early July. Same with the blood antibody tests, they are not any good if you aren't eating gluten full time for quite a while before the blood draw. Months. So if you are thinking of testing to diagnose celiac you are basically too late to do that. Unless...
  6. I saw something about free celiac testing being done in Chicago soon, so if you are near there might be worth checking out. Open Original Shared Link
  7. Chiggers! That reminds me of skeeters. My ex used to get ate up by the skeeters but they would hardly bother me. Not that they wouldn't bite, but they bit her a whole lot more. I always caught more catfish than her too. But then again she didn't go fishing much.
  8. I agree. If the doc aren't helping then why not try it and find out for yourself? There is also the problem that some people just don't show positive celiac results for whatever reason. And some people have gluten sensitivity which is no fun either. The tests for celiac are not 100% accurate, and are known to give false results sometimes. It may take...
  9. Don't worry, you will be an expert on poop colors in no time! I had black stools before going gluten free. And green too, along with yeller and sometimes other soothing colors. Mine cleared up after being gluten free a while. If the kiddos are still black, or he is pale or weak then definitely get him to a doc quick. Most of us do pretty well on...
  10. Well, first off, you should learn to stay away from frozen metal poles. Ok, kidding. I got nothing. Did you have the antibody blood tests? The next thing they often do is an endoscopy to see if there is blunting of the villi in the small intestine. If they want to do an endoscopy you will need to keep on eating gluten like usual until it is over...
  11. I'm cheating, but maybe you will find something in these threads. Help With Breakfast Ideas eating Quick Breakfast Ideas? Dairy-free Breakfast Ideas? need hints! Need Breakfast Ideas -- Gfcfsf Breakfast Ideas
  12. I think it's great that they will list wheat, rye, barley and oats after natural flavors. Natural flavors is one of those head-scratcher ingredients and they are taking the guess-work out of it. It would be fantastic if all companies did that.
  13. My brothers got poison ivy as youngsters on the farm. Cutting brush, hiking, hunting, fishing etc.. But I only remember getting a small reaction to it once. At least I think it might have been poison ivy. But we always did the same activities together and it just didn't bother me like it did them. I know we got into it a couple times and they had reactions...
  14. In celiac the immune system manufactures cells to attack the intestine (and the gluten) in the villi. Those immune cells don't stop just because he isn't eating gluten right this moment. It takes time for the body to recognize the antigen that caused the problem is gone. I've always heard that black stool is caused by bleeding in the gi tract somewhere...

    ARCHIVED Funny But Sad

It was probably seitan. In the flesh! You might enjoy this Youtube video of washing flour to separate the gluten and starch. Smells like bacon! I think they use the same process when making seitan, or fried/boiled spicy gluten. And this sweet young man made a musical version. Don't give up watching until the star of the show pops...
  16. Yeah I hear you on the potato starch thing. I guess it's just so much cheaper for potato starch and that is why it gets used a lot. I can eat corn, so I don't check for that. But I can't do soy or dairy or nightshades. Anyway, Glutino has some breads that are potato and dairy and soy free. Kinickkinick hamburger buns are ok too, but their English Muffins...
  17. I don't make a salad dressing very often, but when I do I add a little psyillium husks to it. This makes it thicken and it doesn't separate as quickly. Shake it good and leave it for 15 minutes so the psillium husks can absorb some moisture then shake it up again.
  18. I agree on removing the quinoa and kale and sunflower seeds. Is the tuna canned in soy or water? Most tuna is canned in soy which is another possible problem. You could remove the tuna and eat avocados instead. They have some good protein.
  19. Hey India, In the USA we have product called milk of magnesia that is great for clearing up constipation. Might be worth a shot if there is something similar there. Another thing to think about it is the fiber in your diet. You could add some pysillium husks or flax seed meal to your rice or other foods to boost the fiber. Just a teaspoon though...
  20. Some of us get intolerances to nightshades. Like I can't eat potatoes, tomatoes, or peppers, which are all nightshades. You can do what's called an elimination diet. just do a search on here using the search forum tool near the top left of the screen. Search on "elimination diet" and you will find lots of threads about them.
  21. Food intolerances are not limited to gluten, soy, or dairy. You as an individual could be reacting to any of the items you listed as eating regularly, or several of them. How about carrots, turnips, garbanzo beans, peppers, tomatoes, potatos, celery, fish, eggs, corn, nuts, rice, fruit, or any of the other myriads of other foods that people have reactions...
  22. You are really just starting the elimination diet so don't give up yet. you aren't going to figure things out by throwing a lot of new foods into your body. That would just confuse things. It would be better to substitute one of your current foods for some other food.
  23. Yep, try to make all your food from scratch using whole ingredients at first. Watch out for spice blends, single ingredient spices are generally safer. New toaster, no sharing condiments with gluten eaters, no kissing a gluten eater until they have brushed and gurgled, no processed foods at all for a few months. Watch out for soy too, it gets some us...
  24. Glutino fiber bread is potato free and dairy free. They do have a warning about traces of soy though. So far it hasn't botherer me but I don;t eat a lot of it either. Food for Life Brown Rice Bread is dairy, soy, and potato free. Food for Life brown rice wraps are what I eat mostly or Mission corn tortillas. Kinickkinick has some hamburger buns...
  25. If your intestines are bloated with gas that could put pressure on the bladder and cause frequent peeing. It could be it is worse during the day because he is eating during the day and therefore feeding the bad bacteria in The gut and getting lots of gas from it.
