  1. I had pain in my left side below my rib cage for years. And all over pain in my abdomen. And that stuff hurts! Anyhow, whine on, whine off. There are some people who have celiac but refuse to test positive on the official doctors tests. We call them RavenwoodGlass. So you have to decide at some point if you are going to believe a doctor and a test...
  2. Most chocolate has soy in it, so you might be reacting to that. I have trouble with carrots and nightshades (potato, tomato, peppers) among others. Tree nuts I am not decided about but have had a few experiences recently that make me wonder about them, especially walnuts.
  3. Hi PQAT, I don't know if the chicken feed has anything to do with it or not. I remember seeing stories for a while about anti-biotics fed to chickens possibly causing problems. Seems like that has been in the news for a while though. The rice crackers I have seen usually have soy in them. Could it be you are reacting to soy? Soy caused me all kinds...
  4. Welcome to the site Eatmeat4good, I think you are probably right about the mal-absorption problems. It does take some time for things to heal and absorption to improve. the chicken broth sounds like a good idea. I think I'll give that a try today. Maybe I'll even add some rice and quinoa when it's done.
  5. Hi MtAngel, Sounds like you just started the gluten-free diet in early Oct-2010? That's not a long time to reverse damage that may have been going on for years. But that doesn't mean you haven't started down the road to recovery either. A damaged gut can lead to malabsorption, poor vitamins/minerals/food absorption, which can lead to myriad other symptoms...
  6. Thanks Loey! I slow down sometimes too. I have mostly been doing sketching here and there lately but haven't doing much painting. But now that's it's cooling down I will get my encaustics out and start having some fun with them. We have several artist members here. CoolClimates makes fabric art, and I think Ravenwoodglass makes glass art. So you fit right in with your jewel...

  7. I went to your web site and really liked your work. You're very talented. I especially like the the piece using pointillism. I'm a jewelry crafter and unfortunately my flare-up (and the state of disarray that moving has created) has stalled me. Maybe I'll give it a shot tomorrow. I know where some of my supplies are buried in the basement.

    Loey

  8. That's my understanding too, if you can't stick to it throughout the study, they don't count you in the results. pretty stupid system if you ask me. It's almost like saying, if you absolutely have an incredibly negative reaction, we won't include you in the study results. Whats the point then? Stupid.
  9. My vote is the potato starch. Potato is a nightshade, along with tomato, and peppers.
  10. Some of us get intolerances to nightshades. Like I can't eat potatoes, tomatoes, or peppers, which are all nightshades. You can do what's called an elimination diet. just do a search on here using the search forum tool near the top left of the screen. Search on "elimination diet" and you will find lots of threads about them.
  11. Luigi's Italian ice cups are gFcFsF also. They sell them in freezer sections of the grocery store in boxes of 6. If you eat a few bites and make a little room on top, then you can pour a tablespoon of absinthe on it and they are not bad at all. There are other brand but the Luigi's are the best tasting that I have tried.
  12. It might be a good idea to have their thyroid checked. I think soy is another possible cause of heat imbalances. My body was really wacky when I was eating soy.
  13. There seems to be some link between celiac and schizophrenia. I don't know if there is any link to OCD or other disorders. Probably depression is linked. Gluten ataxia is also linked to celiac. It seems to me that celiac can definitely affect the brain. I don't think there is really any doubt about that. There are also people who put their autistic...
  14. It could be a thyroid nodule or cyst, or Hashimoto's thyroiditis developing. Or hayfever allergies? Can you feel a bump where she says the bubble is? What the hey, probably wouldn't hurt to to get an ultrasound of her neck if it doesn't clear up by itself after while. I have a couple nodules and a cyst, and have had them for a few years. They usually...
  15. You may be having neurological affects. This Science Daily article talks about ataxia but also says the impacts can be wider. Sensitivity To Gluten May Result In Neurological Dysfunction; Independent Of Symptoms:
  16. Hey Tena, Oh, yeah Michigan has a little snow too? :-) Good idea. I plan to sit inside and make gluten-free cookies and muffins this weekend while it snows. Stocked up on gluten-free flour yesterday night. Whole Foods was a zoo. Got some bird seed for the birds too. Gives my cat Muffin something stare at out the winder. Take care! Paul

  17. Hey Paul.....I thought Michigan was one of the only places that got storms! Hope you stay safe and are stocked on what you need.

Stoke the fire and watch a good movie this weekend.

  18. Lost in the wheat fields...

    1. Live Love Twillight

      Live Love Twillight

Ha ha! Thank you, you are the first one to welcome me, I appreciate that :D

  19. Hey, I wanted to thank you. You have been incredibly helpful since I got here, Thanks a lot!!

  20. For a while I had episodes where I would start to fall over sitting at my computer. I would be working and suddenly catch myself falling over/blacking out. Later these got less severe and I would notice kind of a rushing noise in my ears and feel sort of weak. I think this was caused by periodic low blood pressure but not sure. Doctors didn't find anything...
  21. Sounds like some real success stories here on the BP front. My BP was described as borderline high for years, but not terribly high. It seemed to stay around 130 over 89 or so. Going gluten-free didn't seem to change it at all after 2 years. I tried going salt free for 5 years prior to gluten-free and that didn't help either. I do use a little salt now...
  22. I used to have night sweats, before gluten-free and for a while after, but they stopped a while back. I think they can be related to thyroid issues and possibly diabetes also. And fever of course.
  23. Hi Lovey25,

I am not sure I have Hashimoto's now. At my most recent visit to the endo he said all my numbers / levels are ok!

    Thanks for dropping by!

  24. You have Hashimoto's? Me too. :(

But you're a rarity -- not many men have the disease.

    :)

  25. I don't usually upchuck from gluten, but I have had episodes of violent heaving due to other things. Once was in Korea when a buddy I went out drinking and both got something the same night. I couldn't keep anything down for a day and a 1/2, even water. Got what they call the dry heaves. I finally tried some 7-Up, and for some reason that worked. I think...
