  1. When I was still on soy I had bad reactions to coffee and tea. I finally gave them both up and that helped my energy stabilize. It took a while off soy before I really felt a lot better and didn't have episodes of almost passing out. Now I can drink tea a little but I keep it to a minimum, and not every day. The simpler you make your diet to start out...
  2. I think in the UK you can get some cost re-imbursement for gluten free foods, if you are doctor diagnosed. If that is important to you then it would be good to stay on gluten until the tests are completed. But also let you doctor know that you want to be tested for celiac disease. I wonder if the doctor can arrange for the blood tests now, before the actual...
  3. I read a while back that swelling is a symptom of allergic reactions. so, maybe you should take a look at possible food triggers for the swelling. The thing is, your body is your own, not anybody else's. You could react to something that I have no problem with at all. So you really would need to eliminate anything that you react to, not what other...
  4. I wonder if he just doesn't take you seriously about avoiding gluten. I saw on another thread where you said you drink Corona beer. I don't know, but I sure wouldn't drink Corona myself without some pretty substantial info to show it is gluten free. So maybe he doesn't think it really affects you a lot if you can drink beer like that.
  5. It might be a good idea to have their thyroid checked. I think soy is another possible cause of heat imbalances. My body was really wacky when I was eating soy.
  6. The sprouted corn tortillas are listed as gluten free on this page of their site. Last paragraph on the page. Open Original Shared Link Food For Life offers a wide variety of delicious gluten free products, including our new Sprouted Organic Corn Tortillas, Brown Rice Tortillas and two new Yeast Free Gluten Free Breads. All of our Gluten Free products...
  7. Since you are already gluten free, there isn't much point in any tests for celiac except the Enterolabs tests. Have you tried finding any other possible food intolerances? Dairy, soy, nightshades, food colorings, preservatives, yeast? There are all kinds of possible food gotchas out there that can make you sick.
  8. All good advice already. Getting off all processed foods is a good way to start troubleshooting. Soy and nightshades, (potatoes, tomatoes, peppers) are common problems for us. Dairy is also often a problem and maybe he should get off that again. Sometimes reactions don't show up in one or two days but can build up after a while. Eliminating all vitamins...
  9. Hi Laker, Maybe some milk of magnesia would help get things moving again. Getting the gluten out would be a good thing.
  10. Hi Dee, First off, don't cheat. You are only cheating yourself out of being healthy. Take a look around and find some gluten-free breads and keep them in the fridge for when you want bread. Or do a search and read about the microwave bread recipe on here. Real easy and works great. Limit eating out to places you have researched first and know are...
  11. I put my cast iron skillet on the stove with some soap and water in it and boiled it good for 1/2 an hour. Scrubbed it out good and haven't had a problem with it.
  12. Try a search for microwave peanut brittle. 10 minutes and it's done. And you can add any fixings you want, like dried fruit, other nuts, sunflower seeds, raisins, coconut etc. Cheaper than buying candy and better for you. Or stop at any store and pickup some nutritionally void Starburst Fruit chews. Or try a search on the forum here for Halloween...
  13. I started feeling better almost right away. But had some symptoms that didn't go away and even got worse until I got soy out of my diet.
  14. Nightshades, potatoes, tomatoes, peppers, dairy, soy, gluten, garbanzo beans, sugar, etc etc.. Any food that your body doesn't handle well can cause gas and bloating. Enterlab can test for antibodies to some things, but not a very long list. An elimination diet is the cheapest way to go and worth a try.
  15. The blood tests are a simple thing to get done. They take a few vials of blood and test them for various antibodies to gluten. A positive antibody test is pretty reliable but a negative is not so reliable. In other words, testing negative doesn't mean you don't have antibodies. Another option is Enterolab stool testing for antibodies. An endoscopy may...
  16. I've mixed in a banana or an avocado before and made cookies and muffins that are pretty good. I've also used pumpkin pie spices to make kind of a spice cake. It rises real well, but does seem a bit dry. I haven't tried the pumpkin pie mix but that sounds like a good idea. There is a big long thread around here somewhere on the Betty Crocker mixes...
  17. Interesting article Scott. The 2nd page says that bifidobacteria may have a beneficial effect on inflammation in the intestine. Sounds like some pro-biotics may be helpful.
  18. So Bunnie's going for the alligator tummie eh? That's a good one I reckon. One reptile digestive system to the rescue. Looks like you could get an extra digestive bennie too, gastroliths. Seems alligators often have them. Open Original Shared Link Gastrolith From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia Jump to: navigation, search Plesiosaur gastroliths...
  19. Ahh yes Kareng, a terrier tummie it is for the little miss. Don't be dismayed young lady, with your new terrier tummie you will be able to eat doggie treats, table scraps, and left overs at will. Rowf rowf! And for MtnDog we go for the oinker special! An all-around favorite, the oinker special can consume well nigh anything you can throw or...
  20. What animal's GI tract would you like to have? I was thinking with all the modern medical marvels in transplant technolgy that I could ask my doctor for a GI tract transplant. I am thinking I would like to go for a sperm whale GI tract transplant. Sperm whales can eat fish and giant squids and other things that they find in ocean. Heck, they can can...
  21. Ask your Gi if he is willing to drink Drano every day for 3 weeks. Then maybe you will consider the gluten challenge. You could try Enterolabs testing if you want to pursue a non-invasive test. You have already proved you can follow a restricted diet, so I am not sure a diagnosis will help anything. I think some people want the diagnosis to help...
  22. Hi Heather, You can develop celiac at any time of life. There is no real understanding of exactly how celiac is kicked off in some people and not others. Theories, but nothing proven. Eating "clean" food is good. But gluten can be hard to eliminate when eating processed foods. It is sometimes present in foods made or packaged on shared equipment...
  23. Hi Joan, Congrats on finding the gluten connection! It does take some time to adjust to a radical diet change, especially when your body has been hating the food you were eating for so long. Lots of things are going on in your body as it heals, intestinal repair, more minerals and vitamins getting absorbed, gut flora re-balancing, brain cells re-adjusting...
  24. Well, the anti-gliaden is a problem. Just gluten sensitivity is a problem too. There are a whole bunch of other organs in the body that the immune system can attack besides the intestine. So gluten sensitivity can mean that your intestine is going to be ok but the rest of your body is possibly going to have a fight on it's hands. It really makes sense...
  25. Feeling pretty good today. Woke up at 3:30 am but got some sleep before that so not too bad. Getting over a restaraunt adventure over the weekend where I ate a salad with no croutons and Italian dressing. Then next day ate some Chex Honey nut cereal with hemp milk. Now I remember why I don't eat out very often. Ah well, it is over now, and that's fine...
