  1. Hey Link, I am not in Maryland, I'm in DC instead. But you might be interested in checking with the CSA to see if they have any members in the area. They have a chapter in Maryland but it is in Timonium, quite a ways from you. There are chapters in Virginia and Pennsylvania that might be closer. Open Original Shared Link
  2. Hi Jeremy, Gluten can cause withdrawal symptoms in people, like coming off a drug. There isn't any rule book on what those symptoms can be, so panic could be one of them. Depression is another. Cravings too for that matter. If it is withdrawal symptoms they should pass in a few weeks if you stay strictly gluten-free. If you are new to gluten-free...
  3. Hi Salax, I went gluten-free a couple years ago and felt much better. But over time I found I still wasn't feeling right. I continued to have GI issues and other symptoms and kind of figured that's just the way it is for people with celiac. Eventually I cut all soy from my diet and started improving. It took weeks but I got a lot better. I had been...
  4. If you are sure you are gluten free, then the next thing to consider is possible additional food intolerances. If you don't mind a suggestion, try ditching any soy and dairy in your diet for a month and see if it helps.
  5. One of the things celiac causes is amlabsorption of nutrients in the food we eat. So you can eat a perfectly healthy diet and still not get the vitamins and minerals you need due to the intestinal villi damage and malabsorption it causes. Some of us take liquid B-12 which they say helps with the nerve health and avoids the malabsorption issue since it is...
  6. The antibodie tests are not perfect. If you have GI symptoms then it makes sense to try the diet for a few months to see if it helps.
  7. I think that's a really good question! But I don't think anyone really knows the answer either. Some people think gluten intolerance can develop into celiac disease. Seems reasonable to me. But I don't think there is any proof of that. And leaky gut is a weird one. What I read is some reserch by Dr. A. Fassano saying the some celiacs intestines can...
  8. Open Original Shared Link Maybe some peanut brittle would work? You can find lots of microwave peanut brittle recipes on the net. I know you are avoiding nuts, but you can use anything else in the brittle recipe instead of peanuts, like dried fruits, so sunflower seeds perhaps? Lots of options there really. Spiced peanuts are easy to make by just...
  9. Hey me too! The way I understand it Hashimoto's symptoms can be greater when a person is glutened. So staying well clear of the gluten should help. It wouldn't be a bad idea to get an ultrasound done though. You might want to try get some DPP-IV (DPP-4) also, to help when you get glutened. I don't have Hashimmotto's but it helps me some with...
  10. I got's chuckle on that one! At least the waitress responded to your situation eh? There is a gab chat forum where the more serious, high brow types around here hangout. They even have a funny pages thread for the more erudite discussions of psillyac life. They recently lowered the entry requirements to only 3 phd's so people like me can occasionally...
  11. It could be a thyroid nodule or cyst, or Hashimoto's thyroiditis developing. Or hayfever allergies? Can you feel a bump where she says the bubble is? What the hey, probably wouldn't hurt to to get an ultrasound of her neck if it doesn't clear up by itself after while. I have a couple nodules and a cyst, and have had them for a few years. They usually...
  12. How about testing yourself and DH? It might be good to know which side the genes are on. You could let the family know about the genes then and maybe help some of them. Celiac can appear at any time really, so while it is good to get testing done now, it would still be good to put the kids on a gluten-free diet. They could develop it a week after testing...
  13. This is really getting to be one of those "interesting" threads. I am very sure Jestgar didn't mean anything rude or unpleasant in her response. She is very helpful to people on this board and has been for years. A short simple statement can be misinterpreted just a like a long winded response can be. It is just the internet thing, it's hard to determine...
  14. If you are used to buying your breakfast in boxes, or your dinner in little frozen blocks, or eating out a lot, then it can be quite a change doing the gluten-free diet. It was for me. No More Marie Calendar's quick nuke pot pies for dinner. No more bread, no more beer! I really think eating conveniance foods are just a habit we get into. And habits...
  15. Hi, I think the short answer is YES! There are lots of varying symptoms you can get from celiac. Gluten sensitivity probably has the same list, although there isn't a lot of info on it. You can search for celiac associated condition or celiac related condition and find lists of other autoimmune diseases that tend to occur more frequently in people...
  16. I don't eat Jimmy Dean sausage anymore. I had tried adding it into my diet not too long ago and just kept feeling worse. So out it went. I don't think it was gluten, but I have problems with other foods, so it may have been something in the spices, or something else I haven't identified. Anyway, just saying you have to consider other food intolerances...
  17. Your cousin probably thinks since you didn't curl up in a ball and die right afer eating her poison food you are not sick. She most likely doesn't understand how an autoimmune disease can have a slower response than a wheat allergy based on IGE response. Some celiacs do have a very fast response but probably more often it is a delayed response. Your...
  18. Hi, Celiac can cause lots of damage when untreated by the gluten-free diet. So it would be a good idea to learn about eating gluten-free and other possible food intolerances. Lots of us have secondary food intolerances like soy, or corn or egg etc that can affect us almost as badly as gluten in some cases. Soy is one of the worst things for us IMHO...
  19. Ha HA, I think I would rather have silly jerk disease!
  20. Thanks for posting this info David. It would be nice to know how clean these people's diets were during the study. Very interesting information.
  21. Sorry you aren't feeling well. Assuming it is a food problem, there are couple things I can think of to check. It sounds like your diet is good, although the gluten-free treats might be something to look into. Some may have traces of gluten even though they are marked gluten-free. It depends on the item though and the manufacturers policy as far as separation...
  22. Eliminating wheat is good, but if you suspect celiac or gluten intolerance you need to remove rye, barley and oats also. Soy is another bad one for food intolerances. If you google "top 8 allergen" you should find some lists of the common food allergens. Might be a good starting point for things to eliminate.
  23. There is no way a major diet change is not going to have an affect. We aren't made out of stone or iron, our bodies do react to things we eat. Recovery can have many ups and downs. It sounds like you may have been having some malabsorption issues for a while. You could try taking some liquid B-12 and a B complex for a while to help with nerve health....
  24. Hi, It's nice that your specialist doesn't think it is another food intolerance but doesn't really matter. If lots of us have other food intolerances (and you can determine we do just by reading the posts and signatures on this forum) then it is not a stretch to think you could also. If he has nothing to base that on then who cares what he says? You...
  25. Eww, I jest hait bahhd tiping an speelng! :=) Macks me git awl krazy!!! I got back some energy when I went soy free this year, after 2 years of up and down spurts. Soy is so bahhd for peeple. But you could have another food intolerance besides gluten is the point. So, make sure first you have really got rid of the ahlll the glutan, then look...
